Some new Final Fantasy XIII-2 information has been released in the latest issue of Jump today, including a couple of fairly small but important story points. Here they are thanks to Kagari on Neogaf:
Noel is from the future where he’s the last surviving human of his time.
Lightning is a knight for the goddess Etro who’s tasked with protecting her temple in Valhalla.

There is now a scan for the above information, showing a new render for Lightning.

To go with the Type-0 screenshots, Famitsu has released a bundle of Final Fantasy XIII-2 screenshots, featuring 5 we haven’t seen before. Although there isn’t much new information we can extract from these shots, two of them do feature Yaschas Massif but during nighttime, showing the day and night cycle featured in the game.

As promised, Square has released a bunch of new Final Fantasy XIII-2 screenshots today. With them comes a render of the new Serah artwork released yesterday, as well as a mashup of the previous two XIII-2 trailers, featuring narration from Kitase and Toriyama.
The screenshots feature a new area known as Yaschas Massif, a location near where Hope received Alexander on Gran Pulse. The ruins themselves are of Paddra, what was once one of the largest cities on Pulse. The city is filled with soldiers and scientists searching for something.
A little more has leaked from the Final Fantasy Type-0 demo. This time, the Type-0 world map has been extracted showing all four countries in their entirety. Although it’s small and not the best quality thanks to the method it was extracted with, it does a good job at showing the world we’ll be playing in. In the second image, the location of the Suzaku Peristylium has been added to provide some scale.

A new Final Fantasy Type-0 book has been announced by Square Enix today and is planned for release on September 29th. The World Preview Official Guidebook is a 144 page preview of Type-0, including bios for each of the main characters and interviews with 14 of the games voice actors, as well as 70 pages of details on the less important characters and the world the game is based in. The 14 voice actors being interviewed will be chosen in the near future. Explanations of the battle system and notes from the developers will also be included to provide hints for the player when the game comes out the next month.
All in all, this glorified art book will be available for ¥840 and will include a B3 poster with the chance for people pre-ordering, winning a version signed by the 14 voice actors. It’s available for pre-order on Square Enix’s e-STORE now.

Square Enix has released new detailed descriptions of the countries that form the world of Final Fantasy Type-0. With them come new screenshots and artwork, as well as the flags for all four of the countries and a brief biography of each of their important figures. Take your time to take it all in.
Rebrum
This is the country which the Suzaku Peristerium is based and home to all of the main characters of the game. Rebrum is run by eight individuals who are also in charge of the school the students of Class 0 attend. The school admits students based on the Crystals decision. If they are magically gifted, they’re admitted to the school and split into classes.
Who’s in charge?
Khalia Chival VI is both the chancellor of the school and head of state. He was a great sorcerer when he was younger.
Milites
A militaristic empire with a missing emperor and the yearning to possess the crystals the other three countries control. The Byakko Crystal the nation holds is capable of creating weapons which any citizens can wield, unlike the limited power grated by the other nations crystals to only a few individuals. Because of this, the empire has a vast army containing tens of thousands of troops.
Who’s in charge?
Admiral Cid Aulstyne is the countries de facto leader and also the head of the Byakko Peristerium, a research organisation studying the energy released from the crystal to use for the military.
Lolica Commonwealth
The Lolica Commonwealth, a mountainous country, contains the Genbu Peristerium which holds the Genbu Crystal. The crystal strengthens the people of the nation, making their bodies larger than those of other nationalities. Most of the population server as Knights to protect the country.
Who’s important?
Gilgamesh is a well know l’Cie from the Genbu Crystal who has forgotten his focus. He fights opponents, trying to target their weapons.
Concordia Kingdom
Concordia is home to the Souryu Crystal, which gives the people of the country the ability to talk to monsters and dragons. This ability is used in day-to-day life as well as in combat to give them an edge. The people of the country are quite small so rely on speed and spears in combat.
Who’s in charge?
Queen Andoria is the leader of Concordia with the government mainly comprising of women. The queen is the actual physical representation of the Souryu Crystal and is therefore the only person able to communicate with the Queen Dragon.

E3 is a wonderful time of year that’s like some sort of geeky Christmas. A new screenshot for Final Fantasy XIII-2 depicts a quaint looking town (that can be seen being explored with Noel in the E3 trailer). Get a big fat look with your big fat eyes at New Bodhum. Guess HD towns weren’t as hard as Square Enix said they were.

During the development of Final Fantasy XIII, some cuts had to be made. One of them unfortunately was Lightning’s very own home which, although appeared in a cutscene, was supposed to be navigable by the player during gameplay. Square-Enix claims that it was removed due to “storage issues” but the artwork has survived showing the full inside and out layout. I somehow doubt it will make it into XIII-2 unfortunately.
