An interview with Tetsuya Nomura has been published in the latest issue of Dengeki Playstation in Japan. We’re having to rely on online translation so the transcripted portion of the interview we’re looking at is extremely hard to make out. Unfortunately nothing new, just more waiting.
Nomura says he prefers to work on one project at a time which is why he is currently focusing on his mobile game, Monotone at this time. He says he isn’t forgetting about Versus but just waiting until he has more free time to begin working on it. He also doesn’t want to begin working on Versus quite yet because of the high specifications of the PS3. He wants to utilize all the technology the PS3 contains and produce the game that he envisioned which isn’t possible at the moment.

Eurogamer interviewer, Simon Parkin managed to catch some time with Tetsuya Nomura and ask some questions about Final Fantasy Versus XIII a few hours after the Square-Enix Party.
Interview – Final Fantasy Versus XIII // Eurogamer
The interviewer began by asking how will Versus have a darker setting than other instalments in the series and after some miscommunication Nomura answered that the game won’t be set in a fantasy world but one more like ours today with “all of this world’s ugly issues”. He continues to say, “It will focus around current world events – in that sense it’s darker.” We already know from Jump Festa trailer analysis’ that the protagonist’s country is involved in a Cold War which is possibly one way he is relating it to this world.
Nomura said he has chosen the dark theme because he’s only worked on light settings previously but he has wanted to work on a game with a bleaker setting. Eurogamer then go onto ask more about details of the game mechanics and Nomura answers with the Kingdom Hearts comparison we’ve heard before. He also mentions that a lot of attention is being given to the Third Person perspective which could be referring to what he mentioned in a previous interview about the camera angle changing when each independent weapon is equipped. The actual development of the game on new technology according to Nomura allows them to create a much more seamless feel with a large field area and no loading times to interrupt the flow of the game.
Thanks Desi for finding the interview.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer Translated
Here are the lyrics:
A kingdom sleeps
and children make graons that are never diminished
nor can they hope
A man is divided
he faces a tragedy and is sent away
And to travel at night from destruction
is his other burden
to bear every fear is his punishment
which he must endure throughout time
and from it ascend

Japanese magazine GeMag had the chance to speak with Mr Nomura recently and it looks like Versus is some time away. At the moment he’s involved in the production of 5 titles and one he won’t speak about and he says PS3 games aren’t his first priority. Here’s a translation I’ve tried to clean up from German.
He says that he would gladly bring the game out earlier for Playstation 3 yet the development software isn’t completed yet. From his viewpoint as Director the start on the PS3 is slow but it is however unavoidable as the software isn’t finished. He also says that next year he would like to show some more game scenes and introduce the game system itself.lockquote>It look’s like 2007 is going to be a busy year for Nomura but once all the current games are released he should be able to concentrate on his new creation. That’s if Disney doesn’t persuade him to start Kingdom Hearts 3.

More clips of Final Fantasy Versus XIII are shown at the closed Mega theatre.
There is a new trailer in there. Do not take my translation as confirmed. Enjoy.
“Reality is really just a dream.”
- From Shakespeare’s Hamlet lockquote>
A car arrives, the protagonist sits down in the rear seat.
Something comes from the radio. It says in an empty voice “long continues the cold war with a conclusion…” Thats all they can hear.
The protagonist, after preventing the attack of the enemy with Sawayama’s weapon, reflects the attack from the enemy with Sawayama’s weapon and entering the enemy’s camp on the way. He attacks directly with the weapon and pushes down the enemy.
Even attacks like a cannon is not effective against the protagonist.
When the protagonist clears the enemy in a blink of an eye, the camera suddenly pans up a building. The enemy will probably climb up a rope in the building.
Suddenly, the protagonist goes out from that place, it moves instantaneously and to sky, pushes down the enemy one after another in the position where you threw the weapon, threw instant movement. (I think he talks about actual gameplay)
Blood which is pushed down splash coming out properly, it increases the enemy (Article is commenting on age restriction)
Again, the inside of the building are taken, the casket bucket looks like the enormous pillar in rear of the chair where the protagonist sat down?

Well I’ve managed to convert the flash trailer into a video for everyone to download. I’ve also extracted the audio for anyone who wants that too. The flash wasn’t very good quality so it doesn’t look perfect but I’ll upload the high quality trailer whenever It’s released.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII E3 2006 Trailer
Trailer Audio
The trailer looks amazing. It starts off very slow but the ending more than makes up for it. I can see what they meant about his eyes glowing red when he holds a sword now. So very evil. Also that soldier really can’t aim.

Square-Enix released the new Crisis Core trailer for the FFVII compilation today through their Square-Enix members site and it has to be said it looks like one of the best PSP games I’ve seen to date.
On the front page with it appears a special Coming Soon box which according to Dengeki Online is for the very first public Versus trailer! It’s also included in the Square-Enix members email as a “specially installed page Coming soon” but the name Versus isn’t mentioned. It’s probably going to be the same trailer shown at the closed Mega Theatre at TGS but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The Trailer will be available to view from the members site on December 8th but an account is required. We will try and make it downloadable soon after its release.

We have some more information on the interview with Toriyama and Nomura in Dengeki PS3. Further parts of the interview have been posted on FF7AC Reunion revealing a few new details on Versus.
It seems the man featured in the screenshots and trailer (which is yet to be released to the public) is the protagonist. According to Nomura his eyes glow red when he has sword in hand which is hard to notice because we’re yet to see him without a sword. The actual battles are going to very similar to Advent Children which is what we can expect from the Director who made it.
There has also been rumour of a trailer being announced for one of the games within the next month in an RPGFan news post translating the FF7AC Reunion article but we only see the already announced new screenshots coming out soon. If anyone can tell us anymore about this please contact us.
