For a long time, Western fans have been left in the dark concerning a localization for Type-0, and the news only seems to get grimmer each time we hear about it. However, a recent interview with none other than Hajime Tabata himself might bring a glimmer of optimism. As “moribund” as the the localization might be, S-E has not given up hope. You can read the entire interview here, but here’s the part you’re probably most interested in.
Hajime Tabata: “Due to market reasons, we are taking a clean slate in terms of our plans. We feel strongly about bringing this title to the fans in North America and Europe, so if an opportunity arises that can become a conclusive factor, we are prepared to go into consideration right away.”
That’s less than clear, but it’s also far more than many expected. Though the future for Type-0 is nowhere near certain, at least we know that the project hasn’t flatlined. Additionally, Tabata speaks in the interview of his work with Crisis Core and S-E and about his feelings on Final Fantasy in general. As always, if you have any thoughts, comments or even just exclamations of relief, head on down to our forums.
Ever since Final Fantasy Type-0 was revealed (as Final Fantasy Agito XIII) a few years ago its potential localization has been in question. In its original form as a cell phone game its chances were nearly 0, which would be quite befitting now. But as it’s now only released for PSP the chances increased dramatically and we’ve all been waiting on baited breath to hear about it travelling to western shores.
It would seem that wait is over however, thanks to a brand new interview with producer Yoshinori Kitase coming out of Spanish gaming site Vandal.net.
Thanks to our very own forum member Lymle we have a proper translation of one very important question and answer:
What else can you tell us about the other Fabula Nova Crystallis games? We haven’t heard anything about Type-0 or Versus lately.
[Laughs] Type-0, as you probably know already, was released in Japan last month, so that one’s finished. We’re currently working on the North American and European versions which you will know of very soon. Versus hasn’t been released in Japan yet, but we released a trailer last January. We’re working really hard to finish it. We’ll reveal new stuff within the next few months.
And there you have it folks, if this interview is to be believed, we have official confirmation of Type-0′s western releases!
