Square Enix has announced a new game in the Final Fantasy XIII series at the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event, bringing Lightnings story to an end.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out! With it comes a final trailer which neatly compresses all the good bits of FFXIII-2 into one minute.
The long wait is over. We've finished our review copy and had a great time, so come read our impressions of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Final Fantasy XIII-2′s soundtrack has been released and tracks from it are popping up everywhere online. Final Fantasy XIII took a pretty big divergence from the series norm when it included several vocal tracks from background music. FFXIII-2 does even more of the same, with some resulting in either a disaster or hilarity. Take a listen of XIII-2′s new metal Chocobo theme below.
Youtube user psychotron502 has uploaded several other songs from the soundtrack, including the more traditional Chocobo theme for those of you who couldn’t handle the other one. Take a look.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is now on sale in Japan, and the live streams have already begun. There are several around but naturally, they don’t last forever. Thankfully, some clever soul has captured over seven hours of Leta_jp’s streams in extremely high quality from the very beginning. Presumably, it’ll be updated the more they play. So if you have no patience and want to see the full game for yourself now, watch the first part of the stream below.
If you want to watch the action live from other live streamers, take a look at this thread on our forums to see which ones are currently available. Spoilers naturally.
The first video is split into three parts, each roughly 1 hour 45 long. To watch the second and third parts of it, visit this link. To watch the second video, click the part 2 video in the Other videos section on that page.

A special thanks to Ramenzilla for finding the info!
You may recall recently that there was an event in which S-E bigwigs answered several lingering questions about Type-0 and XIII-2. It seems that one more gem has emerged from the event, and that is a Q&A session in which producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that DLC will not only give us costumes and the monster Omega, but will also give us more story after the release of the game! No specifics were given, other than coy instruction to keep your eyes peeled after XIII-2 is released.
Big thanks to forum member Musou for finding this. As always, head down to the forums to discuss.
Ah, the game’s release is just around the corner! Well, in Japan but anyways Square Enix released 2 new commercials for the PS3 and Xbox showing a few new scenes (spoilers are present, of course), gameplay, and, well, just go on and watch both of them below!
Live events were held in different retailers in Japan to celebrate the breaking-the-million-members-mark of the Square Enix Members club. The staff of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Type-0 attended these events and discussed about different stuff such as the performance of Type-0 on PS Vita, the possibility of a Type-0 sequel, some info on the deleted content of the game and some things being considered for XIII-2′s DLC. They were able to discuss these points through the Q&A portion in these events.
Hajime Tabata has stated that Type-0 is looking good and working very well on the PS Vita. Regarding a sequel, he said that if they were to make one it would not directly follow Type-0′s story although he has implied that a sequel would only be made if the fans demanded for one. Proceeding on the Q&A part, he was asked about the characters’ names being based off cards having actual real names and has answered that at first they considered giving them real names but has decided to just keep their code names to make them more mysterious. It was also revealed that during the game’s development they had plans on including a feature where the characters can be controlled to experience dorm life but was cut due to volume issues.
As for XIII-2, Kitase is considering the possibility of releasing Type-0 DLC outfits for the main characters and having FFXIII’s playable characters playable in the game through DLC. They are listening to what the fans want, and says to expect on hearing more info about the DLCs after the game’s release.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was featured in NicoNico, showing off gameplay from a finished version of the game. The characters can be seen in Bresha Ruins, the same featured location in the E3 demo only this time in a different time period. The whole video is in Japanese but it’s worth to have a look, so watch it below!
Paddra Nsu-Yeul, the mysterious girl seen in trailers tagging along with Caius, will be featured in this week’s Jump. Have a look at the page below (we’ll be updating this post once a higher quality scan of the page surfaces) which possibly contains new details regarding her and other stuff. Stay tuned and head over to the forums for discussion and updates!
Update: A clearer version has surfaced, but not a HQ one. We’ll be updating this again once a HQ version comes out!
