Final Fantasy XIII-2′s first week sales have been released by Media Create today. As many would expect after the disappointment many fans had with the first game, sales are drastically lower than FFXIII’s first week.
The Playstation 3 version of FFXIII-2 appeared at the top of last weeks Japanese chart, selling 525,271 copies between last Thursday and Sunday. The first game sold 1,501,964 copies in the same period at it’s launch. The Xbox 360 version failed to break into the top 20 meaning it’s sold under 28,406 copies.
Although these kind of numbers are incredible, for a Final Fantasy game, these sales make it the worst performing numbered title in recent history. It could be attributed to multiple factors. The disillusion of fans who were incredibly disappointed in XIII, the fact it’s a sequel therefore alienating new fans, or changes in the audiences taste. Whatever the cause, perfect review scores don’t seem to be helping it shift more numbers. Maybe if Square can win back some fans trust with the improvements made to the game, word of mouth could help it attain more sales over the next few weeks.
Square Enix have released a trailer showing off five pieces of upcoming Downloadable Content for the recently released Final Fantasy XIII-2. Check it out below.
In order of appearance:
* Noel’s ‘Brave in Blaze’ Costume
* Serah’s ‘Evening Calm’ Costume
* Serah’s ‘Resort Style’ Costume

A Q&A has been posted over at the PlayStation Blog featuring the game’s director Motomu Toriyama.
Unfortunately, no new information was revealed, although, for those chomping at the bit for anything FFXIII-2 related, you might want to read it.
In response to the PlayStation Blog’s last question pertaining to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Toriyama had this to say:
The PlayStation Blog: “When will we finally be able to play Final Fantasy Versus XIII? You know, the game has been in development for eons. Do you have anything to share at this time? Anything!”
Motomu Toriyama: “First, please enjoy XIII-2 while you wait for additional information.”
Curt, but not unexpected. You can read the full Q&A here.
The DLC boss Omega has finally been revealed in all its glory, and it’s looking good. In a nice callback, its XIII-2 design largely mirrors Omega’s original designs in its earliest appearances in the Final Fantasy series. Omega will be available as DLC in Japan, and in the west as a pre-order bonus from certain stores. Once the optional boss is defeated, it can be recruited into your party to fight by your side along with the other monsters you’ve collected throughout the game.
