News and Updates

The latest Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer shown at Square Enix’s 1st Production Premier has been released officially online in High Definition like promised. There isn’t much more to say but enjoy the much better quality video below.

The Dengeki Final Fantasy Versus XIII scans have leaked their way onto the internet and with them comes new gameplay screenshots. These scans don’t include the interview but it’s most likely there won’t be any new details as all the information was leaked prior to their release.

The new screenshots include Noctis wealding a new lance type weapon which some have described as a “Pile Bunker”, a common weapon in other Square Enix titles. See the scans below. We’ll upload higher quality versions once they become available.

Alongside Dengeki leaks from yesterday, leaks from Famitsu magazine have surfaced:

• Your characters in Versus will not have jobs. However, your enemies will include dragon knights (or dragoons if you prefer) and summoners
• There is a summoning element to the game.
• Your weapon selection will include: swords, axes, spheres, hand guns, machine guns, rifles, bazookas, and shot guns. This is just a partial list, though.
• The Ignis character (the guy with the glasses) is good with assist-style attacks. He can toss knives at enemies. (Note: I’m not sure if Nomura actually uses the Ignis name, or if it’s just the person who wrote the summary.)
• The character with the scar on his face uses a fighting style. He can make use of a pile bunker and broad sword.
• The blonde character is a gunner.
• The game will have positional damage elements for attacking enemies.
• Larger enemies will have weak points.
• The game does not have team attacks for your party members. Repeat: does not.
• You can combo your attacks across character changes — that is, you can keep your combo going when you switch the character you’re currently controlling. As an example, you can make the scarfaced character do positional damage with his hammer, then switch to Ignis, or you can make the enemy shrink away in fear from Ignis’s magic then call in another character to attack.
• You can bring party members back to life if they die. The exception is Noctis. If he dies, the game ends.
• The difficulty is being set towards the high end.

The final round of Dengeki Leaks includes new details on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. This weeks issue will come with a four page spread dedicated to Final Fantasy Versus XIII packed with new details. The most noteworthy revelation is Nomura’s attempt to quell release date speculation by asking everyone to concentrate on XIII-2 and Type-0 this year. This obviously indicates that a 2011 release date for Versus is very unlikely. The rest of the information leaked from the latest issue so far can be found below.

• The actual battle screen in the final game will show character names.
• Some areas regarding how the battle screen shows commands will probably change for the final.
• Magic has different effects depending on the character who uses it.
• A young blonde male character shown in the magazine’s screenshots is good with guns. He alone has aiming controls and can aim for enemy weak spots.
• When other characters use guns, they have just a normal lock-on.
• The game has a large number of weapons. Main character Noctis can use them all.
• Your battle party can have up to three members. However, the members who aren’t taking part in the battle will join in on conversations.
• There are more party members than the four shown in the magazine. However, the game doesn’t have a massive number of party members.
• Main character Noctis is not “cool.” He’s just a normal youth. He feels “I am strong,” but he’s not as strong as he thinks.
• Some segments of the trailer show natural landscapes. These are like the fields you encounter in other games. The game will have time progression: morning, afternoon, evening and night.
• Contrary to some theories, the dragon rider character who appears in the trailer is not heroine Stella. Nomura says he wouldn’t show Stella in such a state. The character you see in that sequence is an enemy.
• You can steal army vehicles for your use. You can ride air ships, cars and Chocobos.
• The blonde character shown in the trailer is Noctis’s friend. The other two characters are friends from Noctis’s childhood. The person with glasses is like Noctis’s tactician.
• You’ll recall that someone in the trailer says “You’re not fit to be king,” or something to that effect. This statement is not directed at Noctis.
• Nomura says something along the lines of: This year, we have Type-0 and XIII-2, so please forget about Versus for a while. He asked that people be patient and understand that they’re trying to do something incredible.
• At the earliest, we could see more from Versus XIII at E3.

That last comment could mean we won’t be hearing anything more about Versus until June.

Thanks to Andriasang for the great translations.

UPDATE: Extended version – Andriasang

As well as the other Fabula Nova Crystallis titles, Final Fantasy Type-0 will have new details revealed in this weeks Dengeki. The article will comprise of a four page spread with an additional page dedicated to an interview with Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama. Here are the new details for Type-0 that have leaked out so far.

• The keyword for the battle system is “Magic in Action.” While you have weapons, magic is main.
• A main concept is “It’s not necessary for everyone to gather.” The game has a multiplayer system that can be enjoyed by • solo players too.
• You can join other players’ games for three minutes. While you can extend this, Type-0 is not the type of game where you play together with other players continuously.
• The game will have 12+2 main characters. This means that in addition to the 12 main characters, there will be two characters, Makina and Rem, in a different framework. These 12+2 characters will be your controllable party.
• You can have up to three characters out in battle simultaneously. Once someone dies, other members will come out to help.
• Until you come to the battle field, you move around the world map and execute a strategy.
• As you play on your own, other players will gradually take part in the battle.
• When you help other players, you earn points.
• In general, your full party heads to the battle field together.

Update – Extended version: Andriasang

With Dengeki and Famitsu both coming out with new Fabula Nova Crystallis articles this week, it was inevitable that information would leak out early. Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be covered in a two page spread in this weeks Dengeki with a one page interview with director Motomu Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitase. Here are the key details covered in the article that have been leaked so far.

• XIII-2′s story begins in Gran Pulse after the ending of XIII.
• The story will feel like it expands out from the after story that was included in the booklet with Xbox 360′s Final Fantasy XIII International.

• XIII-2 is a full sequel. You’ll learn some of the things that took place in the background scenes of XIII.

UPDATE: Extended Version – Andriasang

The debut trailer for Final Fantasy XIII-2 has been officially released in HD and surprisingly, there’s a fully voice English version of it as well. The English version ends with “Coming Next Winter” so the potential for an early 2012 release seems likely. With the release of the trailer comes the launch of the North American official game site and if you hadn’t already noticed, the launch of the European site at a familiar domain. Watch the trailer and see the sites below.

Some new scans have already surfaced from the latest issue of Shonen Jump featuring Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Type-0. Unfortunately they’re pretty poor quality but they do contain new character images for all of the titles in the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation. We’re sure higher quality scans will become available soon as well as a flurry of more in-depth scans from other publications like V-Jump and Famitsu.

The new Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer has been revealed at the 1st Production Premier. It includes new footage of the now voiced Noctis as well as new action scenes and gameplay with the HUD included. It also shows the ability to play as other characters. See it below:

Update: Now officially released in High Definition.

An HD version of this trailer will be released on the 27th via the official website.

The new Final Fantasy Type-0 trailer from the 1st Production Premier has made it’s way online. The pretty long trailer includes all new footage, both CG and gameplay including a fully voiced cast. It’s certainly a very action oriented trailer as it’s almost totally filled with fighting as well as a tragic Chocobo death. We’ll post a better quality version once it becomes available. Watch it below.

Update: Now officially released in High Definition.

The full HD trailer will be officially released on the 27th. Here are some screenshots and the logo for now.
