Square Enix has announced a new game in the Final Fantasy XIII series at the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event, bringing Lightnings story to an end.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out! With it comes a final trailer which neatly compresses all the good bits of FFXIII-2 into one minute.
The long wait is over. We've finished our review copy and had a great time, so come read our impressions of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Square-Enix has announced that their event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the beloved Final Fantasy series will in fact be streamed live for the viewing pleasure of their fans. To be held on September 1st and 2nd, the event will be held over six stages with the main event- the reveal of the continuation of the Lightning Saga- being shown on the 1st at 11:30.
For those of you lucky enough to be able to attend the event in person, it’s to be held in Shibuya where one can win a raffle in order to view the show live. For those of us not lucky enough, the event will be streamed on Nico Nico Live.

In a recent post on their official North American website, Square Enix has detailed their plans to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy during PAX Prime. A live display of the series will take place on August 31st and Square will be giving out some nice prizes for participating fans.
Interesting to note of course, is a small mention of a presentation by Yoshinori Kitase, Motomu Toryama and Isamu Kamikokuryo in what SE is touting as a “special video message” which will detail the future of Lightning, the heroine of Final Fantasy XIII.
This will more than likely coincide with the information in the presentation Square Enix has planned for Japan on September 1st. As always we will be reporting every detail as soon as it is revealed so be sure to check back here in just two weeks!

A rumour started by Kotaku last week has been debunked by Square-Enix’s own Yoichi Wada. He laughs at the rumour and goes on to explain that he has just left one of his regular meetings regarding Versus, and that we’d all be very impressed by the presentation shown. Well, time to show it then.
“It seems someone is spreading a false rumor about Versus being canceled. Heh, just a few moments ago a regularly scheduled meeting for Versus ended. If you were to see the city etc. presented today, you’d wouldn’t be able to stand from surprise, lol.”
Square Enix isn’t done with Final Fantasy XIII yet. Today they have announced a 25th anniversary event for the franchise where they will announce the continuation of the Final Fantasy XIII series. The event which is taking place from August 31st until September 2nd will feature a Final Fantasy XIII stage event entitled the “Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Saga: New Developments Presentation”.
The presentation will be hosted by Toriyama and Kitase as well as other members of the development team. No details other than the name of the event are given but the possibility of a Final Fantasy XIII-3 is obviously on everyone’s minds. Stay tuned and check back at 11:30 on September 1st, Shibuya time.

In spirit with E3 this week, Square Enix has finally released video footage and screenshots from their tech demo for the Luminous Engine, titled “Agni’s Philosophy”. And, frankly, what you’ll be able to view in this demo is incredible. It’s obvious that Square has put a lot of time and effort into perfecting this engine, and personally, I’m REALLY excited to see what they’ll do with it. Chances are, it’ll be used for the next generation of Final Fantasy titles on Sony’s and Microsoft’s yet-to-be-announced consoles, but for now, take solace in knowing that their upcoming projects are going to look absolutely stunning. And yes, all of this is in real time.
Check out the video below.
We’ve started a thread for it here, so tell us what you think!
Thanks to Agent Dunham for the article and screens, and to Lymle and Ffamran mied Bunansa for the video.
Official price details of Final Fantasy XIII-2′s DLCs to be released this month were released and finalized by Square Enix.
All DLCs are due to be released on the 15th. Browse through the images below to have a good look on what to expect on this month’s DLCs!
So as most already know, a slew of DLC is on it’s way, but word from Dengeki Magazine is that there is even more to come in the month of May.
The Snow episode and Valfodr Coliseum battle will both be released on May 15th. Apparently, that will be followed by not only Lightning’s highly anticipated Episode “Requiem of the Goddess” but two new costumes for Serah and Noel. A “White Mage” costume for Serah, and a “Black Mage” costume for Noel.
In addition to all of that, Mog will be getting in on the fun. Your Moogle companion will get costumes of his very own. A devil, a pirate, and a panda will be just 3 of 16 different costumes to choose from.
Exciting? Share your thoughts on the forums.
Thanks to Ffamran mied Bunansa for pointing this out.

A new episode DLC was announced for Snow, and its story idea originally came from the female staff members of the game, stated by character modeling director Hideo Kubota in Famitsu. The episode is to focus on Serah and Snow’s relationship, fleshing out their feelings for one another even more. Motomu Toriyama, the director of the game, also revealed that mysteries about the Coliseum will be uncovered and more details about Snow’s mission as l’Cie will be known.
Within the episode is the recruitable monster Valfodr, the most powerful and last Coliseum monster in the game. The player will encounter him multiple times throughout the second half of the episode, and for each encounter his level is higher and he executes new abilities.
Snow is also recruitable as a Commando while Valfodr is tameable as a Ravager. The DLC is due to be released on the 15th of May, the price yet unknown.
That was quick, although to be expected this post acts as an update to a post made earlier today about Final Fantasy XIII-2′s upcoming DLC.
First off, the Gilgamesh Coliseum battle won’t be the only one coming. Koyo-Koyo or better known outside of Japan as PuPu, that little blue alien that first appeared in Final Fantasy VIII and has been having cameo after cameo ever since will also be an available opponent. He will be a Medic, with just a 10% chance to crystallize so it might take a while to snag him. Conversely, Gilgamesh will be a Commando and be a bit easier to capture. Gilgamesh will come at a slight premium at ¥400 or 480MSP. PuPu, however, will only run you ¥200 or 240MSP.
Noel’s new costume the Assassin’s Creed “Ezio” Costume will come in at ¥300 or 360MSP. It’s being that Serah’s new costume, however, Exposure and Defense, will be free!
More good news? Sure! All the DLC will be available next Tuesday on April 10th
Square Enix have teamed up with Prada to clad four of the Final Fantasy XIII-2 heroines in their clothing for the next issue of a UK fashion magazine. The London based Arena Homme +, is a biannual men’s fashion magazine which will feature Noel, Sazh, Hope, and Lightning as models for the Prada 2012 collection. The issue will be available on the 12th April with a 12 page spread featuring the characters. Why they decided to chose Lightning as a model for men’s clothing is beyond us. See the press release images below.
