Final Fantasy XV Details in Nomura Famitsu Interview

The hits just keep on coming as a Famitsu interview with Nomura has revealed a few more interesting tidbits for us to sink our teeth into. While he has yet to do an in-depth interview as is his custom, he is giving us some surprising things to think about.

The fifteenth coming is not part of the game’s story. It was more of a joke specifically for the trailer and its name change reveal. Oh Nomura, you dirty tease.

Versus may be a series. That’s right, Nomura said that the line at the end of the trailer- “A world of the VERSUS epic”- was specifically meant to hint at the possibility of turning XV into a series. Don’t worry though, Nomura assures us that despite the fact that XV will seem like a single part of an epic poem, it will have its own climax. There will simply be room for more stories to be told.

Nomura is aware that large console developments like this might require a persistent element to keep people interested. To this end, they’re thinking about long-term online features that offer more beyond the short-term single-player experience. Nothing concrete yet, Nomura says he wants to weigh possibilities to see what fits.

Square Enix is interested in expanding Final Fantasy experience to the Vita and other mobile devices. We’re told they’ll be brand new Final Fantasy experiences and not the same old stuff.

The silence on XV is over. Expect to hear more about it from now on, especially at big events like the Tokyo Game Show.

They’re looking into making the Luminous engine XV’s main engine.

During Square Enix’s E3 Event, which only a select number of people were able to attend, they showed off yet another brand new trailer for Final Fantasy XV. This trailer features mostly gameplay, and now, you can watch it below…

It was just recently announced at Square Enix’s “Future of Final Fantasy” Event that even though Final Fantasy Versus XIII was going to be exclusive to PS3, now that it is being re-branded as Final Fantasy XV it will be ported to the Xbox One.

Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto explained that since the game is being developed using Direct X 11 it would be possible to port the title to various other hardware.

Square Enix also mentioned that FFXV was not going to be released by the end of their current financial year, ending on March 31st 2014.

After other games were highlighted, the event winded down with a Q/A section with Hashimoto.

He clarified that unlike some games in the past Final Fantasy XV would be multiplatform worldwide. When asked about whether or not XV was the start of a new compilation, he implied that this could be the case and more information would come at a later date.

He was also asked about the game’s current development status to which he replied it’s still too early to say exactly, but he said that “Development is moving forward.” and that more staff had been added to the team that had already been developing the game.

About the game itself, questions were asked about the style of the game being more action-oriented and if this indicated a shift for Future FF titles. Hashimoto surely reassured fans of traditional Final Fantasy gameplay when he reitarated that of course, all Final Fantasy titles have different systems and while XV is action oriented it doesn’t mean that the next game will be the same he added that turn based RPGs and Action RPGs both have a place in the future.

One questioner mentioned that XV seems to be very male-centric and asked if Square was worried about the female fanbase as a result. Hashimoto didn’t have too much to say but said he would take the question back to the development team.

Other than that, no new info was revealed but a new gameplay trailer was shown which should be released later today so be sure to check back here for it!

Edit: Trailer now in glorious HD.

The warm spring has come and our long wait is finally over. For all of you who have been suffering through the agonizing wait, for all of you who were excited at the prospect, Versus XIII has finally showed itself once more. As promised, Tetsuya Nomura appeared at E3 in the form of a video message. There, he announced that we would receive more information in the coming days- but in the meantime, perhaps we could enjoy the latest trailer for Versus.

Well, perhaps we shouldn’t call it that anymore. You see, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a thing of the past- its proper name is now Final Fantasy XV. I’ll let the trailer speak for itself.

That’s right, you don’t have to attend E3 to see the new Lightning Returns battle system in action! Square Enix has revealed a new gameplay trailer for E3 today, and it shows Lightning traversing a large palace in search of Snow. There she encounters a variety of new enemies and shows off a little bit of the outfit-swapping combat.

If that’s not enough to wet your whistle, stay here in the coming days. Lightning Returns is sure to receive more coverage, and with a playable demo available on the E3 floor you can bet this won’t be the last of the gameplay.

And he’s teasing us yet again. The second episode of Square Enix’s mdRadio aired early for reasons unknown, arriving this morning with Nomura once again talking about his projects. He confirmed that he’ll be making his way over to the states for E3 this year, something he hasn’t done for quite a while.

He went on to speak about the desire for a The World Ends With You sequel- yes please, Nomura- but the part that you all are probably most interested in is that he stated there was “certain information to be announced at E3″. That might not be so interesting if he didn’t also hint that, while he can’t talk about this information right now, he thinks “everyone knows what it will be anyway”.

There has been nothing but hint after hint in the last month or so, and this seems to make things very clear. Keep your eyes peeled at E3, because it sounds like Nomura may have just confirmed Versus XIII’s presence.

Check out the official cover art for Lightning Returns below.  Honestly, I was expecting they’d do something different; it just looks way too similar to XIII-2′s cover art for my liking.  Ah, well.   It is what it is.

I’m sure that Square will be releasing more details at E3 next week, so stay tuned.

Square Enix has given us an early look at the brand new Lightning Returns trailer produced for next weeks E3. In it we see the newly revealed, much more grizzly Snow, and the usual pretty Square Enix locations with Lightning needlessly jumping around like a fool. Look below for the trailer as well as tons of new screenshots.

The first image of Snow for the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has been unveiled, making him the first  character (besides Lightning, of course) out of the original main party to be revealed. In the leaked image, Snow is seen sporting longer hair and no trench coat (gasp!). It’ll be interesting to see what the other characters look like in regards to the new style of the game, but for now, we’ll have to make due!
