Square Enix has announced a new game in the Final Fantasy XIII series at the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event, bringing Lightnings story to an end.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out! With it comes a final trailer which neatly compresses all the good bits of FFXIII-2 into one minute.
The long wait is over. We've finished our review copy and had a great time, so come read our impressions of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Famitsu’s latest issue has a Final Fantasy XIII-2 feature where they reveal a few new details to tide us over. Here’s a summary of all the new information they reveal.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be appearing one disc on Xbox 360. This is in stark contrast to the original which was released on three. Toriyama claims that this is all due to the increased use of real time cutscenes but it’s quite likely the game itself being shorter, also played a large part.
Hope is aged 24 in the TGS trailer making him 10 years older than he appears in FFXIII. XIII-2 takes place 3 years after the original if you’re trying to keep up with the time travelling. He’s now the head of a scientific investigation group of some sort.
Caius (Kaias) has an evil influence over both Valhalla and the regular world which may explain why the black smoke emanating from Lightning in the trailer is called Chaos. Yeul (Yuru) is the silver haired girl travelling with Caius.
The game will never penalize you for you for missing Quick Times. Completing them however will gain you something.
Like Final Fantasy X, you will be able to switch party members on the fly. This means that the party leader dying will no longer be game over.
Noel’s memories are cloudy due to the result of a time paradox.
The game will include Easy Mode from launch this time.
Alternative costumes will also be available and will be visible in cutscenes as well as gameplay.
The Crystarium system will not be capped like it was in XIII. Instead, it will be fully unlocked from the beginning and won’t rely on story progression to let you continue.

The two new Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailers that were recently shown at the Tokyo Game Show have surfaced online and in English to boot.
PS3 Version
Xbox 360 Version
Oddly, these trailers feature the English dub and theme song over the original Japanese trailers, no reason for this can be seen exactly other than it might have been a quicker way for Square to get the trailers released in English.
Thanks to forum member Briar Rose for alerting this to us.

If you were one of those people who bemoaned the fact that Final Fantasy XIII had no light-hearted reprise from your journey as a fugitive with a time limit on your life, you’ll be pleased to know that Final Fantasy XIII-2 has minigames galore. The game will feature something similar to Final Fantasy VII’s Golden Saucer amusement park, with various minigames, chocobo racing and slot machines.
While DLC for the game has been mentioned before, little has been said on what to expect. When you’re done throwing away your gil, you’ll be able to throw away real money on things like weapons, costumes and monsters – for your party, I assume.
Are you content now? You can make giant birds race each other and pretend as a gambling addict. It’s everything everyone ever wanted.

Four new Final Fantasy Type-0 commercials have begun airing on Japanese TV and this time, they aren’t cringe worthy comedy dub overs. They’re the more traditional type of commercial we’ve come to expect featuring the games theme song and a good montage of gameplay and story. See them all in the video below.
You’ve probably forgotten that a half-hour television special for Final Fantasy XIII-2 aired on the 15th in Japan. How could you not, with all that juicy TGS action going on? Turns out you didn’t miss much. Most of the information shared by Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama has already been revealed and the latter half of the programme featured Masashi Ebara (Sazh’s Japanese voice actor) paying a visit to select departments working on the game.
Among the few notable segments, composer Mitsuto Suzuki demonstrated the music production process with a track that hasn’t been heard before. You can check that out below. After having a chat with co-composer Naoshi Mizuta about the new Archylte Steppe theme and checking in with the game’s foley artists (that’s sound effects, for you clueless types out there), there was a brief montage of various visual processes. You can find shots of those a bit further down, too. Images include a demonstration of the animation process using a frightening dragon-type creature, manipulation of Sazh’s eyebrows, a city locale and Serah running through a city (maybe the same one) on a rainy night.
Jump’s latest issue has a page feature on Final Fantasy Type-0, this time revealing the inclusion of Diablos as a summon and two new l’cie. Nimbus (right), dubbed a “cyborg” l’cie from the Byakko Crystal is silent and enigmatic who has fought many rival l’Cie in the past. Setsuna (left) is from the Suzaku Crystal and is apparently the most senior l’cie. She’s a skilled summon magic user who can summon 1000 beasts at once.

Famitsu is reporting that although the PS3 Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailer was released earlier, we have more instore for us in the form of a slightly different Xbox 360 trailer coming soon. The first difference is that the 360 trailer will use the second theme song by Charice announced earlier rather than the one we saw earlier by Mai Fukui.
Other than that, the trailer features the same battle sequences but with alternative cutscenes. In these cutscenes, the purple haired man (now confirmed to be named Kaias) and the newly revealed masked girl (named Yuru) are shown meeting with Serah and her friends. It is revealed that Kaias is apparently unable to die. Famitsu predicts the game will have themes relating to the creation or correction of time paradox’s due several phrases used in the dialog. They predict Noel and Serah will travel between time periods throughout the game. Towns people are shown in the trailer transforming into Cie’th just like in the first game. Speaking about this, Lightning says “This is a future that I was not able to protect”. The trailer ends with Kaias “doing something to a fallen Noel” but Famitsu don’t give any more details.
The new Xbox 360 trailer will likely be released very soon.

For the first time, Square Enix has gone beyond murmurings of “possibly looking into DLC” for Final Fantasy XIII-2, and finally announced that the game will be receiving some. The DLC will come in two flavors to start with.
The first announced is a pre-order bonus for ordering from either Lawsons or HMV. This bonus provides you with special content for use in game but no details have been specified. The second will be post-release downloadable content but other than announcing that it’s in the works, Square hasn’t given us any details on it yet, except that it will allow players to enjoy the game to a greater depth.
Just like the original and Episode Zero, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be receiving it’s own online novella before release. Titled Final Fantasy XIII: Lost Report, it’s set during the events of the first game but through the eyes of Rygdea and Yaag Rosch. The six chaptered story will begin being released on the official website some time this month and will once again be for Japan only.

The latest trailer for Final Fantasy Type-0 has been released at the Tokyo Game Show today. It features new gameplay and cutscenes as well as the first ever preview of it’s theme song, Zero by Bump of Chicken. See all of it below.
Square isn’t having much luck with two of the latest Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailers managing to leak early. The TGS trailer due for release during the Final Fantasy XIII-2 Special today was released accidentally on the official Playstation Tokyo Game Show website earlier today but was swiftly removed. Of course, it was ripped just in time.
See the brand new trailer below to see possibly the best FFXIII-2 trailer yet, featuring the new theme song and wait…who was that?
