Square Enix has announced a new game in the Final Fantasy XIII series at the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event, bringing Lightnings story to an end.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out! With it comes a final trailer which neatly compresses all the good bits of FFXIII-2 into one minute.
The long wait is over. We've finished our review copy and had a great time, so come read our impressions of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Now that the Japanese release of Final Fantasy XIII-2 is just around the corner, a few preview trailers of its improved gameplay have been released just recently. The official Japanese website has released these videos entitled as Battle – Basics and Battle – Expert. Both videos show the enhanced battle system, showing off the new features such as Blood Damage, Feral Link, and more. These videos can be watched under the “System” section.
Furthermore, IGN has also released an “Enhanced Battle System” trailer, demonstrating the same aforementioned features of the battle system. Head over to ign.com to watch it.
Inside the Ultimania Guide for Final Fantasy Type-0, there was a small section regarding the Ultimania for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Like Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 will have two Ultimania Guides; ‘Scenario Ultimania’ and ‘Battle Ultimania’. Page counts and prices are not known yet, but the guides will be released in January of 2012.
Ready for your yearly dose of Versus news? Tetsuya Nomura pops up in an interview in the recently released Final Fantasy Type-0 Ultimania. In it, he says that the design for Moogles in Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be close to what we’ve seen in Type-0. There you have it. Announcement of Moogles in Versus. Not exactly world stopping. He doesn’t go into any more detail of how the adorable creatures fit into the much darker world. Maybe they’ll all be dying.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Final Fantasy Type-0 would be to North America and Europe by an interview Spanish site Vandal had with Kitase. Everyone rejoiced over the fact that the game would finally be coming to our coasts, but then doubt was thrown into the equation when the site removed the paragraph pertaining to the international release.
Thankfully, Type-0′s Ultimania has been released with an interview confirming that Tabata and the team are working hard on the overseas version of the game. It comes with more good news though. Tabata also says he’d like to do a direct sequel to the game (Type-1 as he unsurprisingly calls it) featuring the same characters and world. He even says he’d like to put it on consoles rather than a handheld. It makes sense considering the amount of effort they’ve put into the first, but he said it does depend on player reaction to the first, so buy, buy, buy, if you want more.

Siliconera has reported additional details about Final Fantasy XIII-2, which can be found in the upcoming issue of Famitsu. As we all know, the game sounds pretty awesome from what Square Enix has released thus far, but these new pieces of information have definitely made me more excited about the game.
The article states that Serah and Noel will be able to ride chocobos, which we already knew; however, this will only be possible by using something called a “gysahl green”. These items can be purchased from Chocolina, who is a time traveling merchant who sells a wide variety of goods and weapons. It then goes on to elaborate that a red chocobo will be present in the game, and that this creature in particular will be a nuisance. However, players can make him go away by throwing a gysahl green, and this strange chocobo may potentially have a backstory.
Siliconera then goes on to report that the weather will change within various locations, such as Archylte Steppe (this in particular will have four types of weather: fine weather, sandstorm, thunderstorm, and another mystery condition). Music and the types of monsters within the area will change as the weather does.
Finally, the game will feature dialogue choices called “Live Trigger Events”. Players will be able to select a conversational option based on which of the four buttons (square, triangle, circle, and X on the PS3, and Y, X, A, B on the Xbox 360) they select. This is what I find the most interesting; it’ll be cool to see where Square Enix takes this feature within Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Thanks to Musou for the info!

Just a moment ago, the Square Enix Press Twitter account announced that Square Enix and Ubisoft were collaborating for a XIII-2 costume. Almost immediately after that, they tweeted that Final Fantasy XIII-2 would have an exclusive DLC costume from Assassin’s Creed Revelations.
As the above image shows this costume will be for Noel. Pricing and release date of the DLC has not been mentioned at this time.
