I agree with you Desi 100%, I did think that Morrowind was better in terms of weapons & armor and random stuff that just makes the game enjoyable, o the other hand, Oblivions story line is 100 times better than Morrowind.
Morrowind had the Boots of Blinding Speed so yeah it was better.
I mean the thing that makes the Elder scroll games and especially Oblivion so impressive is because they contain so many written books in the games, the people have schedules and daily activities, and the night sky is just so damn beautiful. Too bad the cities had had to be loaded unlike in Morrowind which it was only houses that loads. Morrowind is also 3 times bigger then Tamerial (Oblivion) though.
I've never played Oblivion but I might give it a go when I get my PS3. Generally I much prefer the Japanese RPG style but everyone seems to rave about the game so I'm interested to see what the fuss is all about.
What I'd like to know is just how big is the game world compared to FFXII? I've never played Morrowind either so Desi's comparison about Tamriel being smaller doesn't really mean anything to me. Is the storyline as good as the FF games? Are the characters likeable and interesting?
Has anyone had the chance to play both the 360 and PS3 versions? If so, how do they compare?
In any Elder Scrolls game you make your own character, this goes a heck of a whole lot more in depth in Oblivion though. You can choose eye color, how big your chararcters nose is, their skin tone, if they have a beard, their race, and of course their class, which can be custom or preset, you know thief assassin, spellsword, mage, battlemage, knight Etc. In my opnion, the game is better for the ps3 because it looks a little bit better but if you want all the expansions you have to buy it for 360, . As for the storyline, its better than Morrowind but the main focus of the game is the fact thatr you can do what the hell you want to, anytime, anywhere.
Other good facts:
-Oblivion is smaller but that is understandable because of how much space the graphics cn take up.
-Finally make the assassin class worth the time and effort to train
-Light armor and heavy armor are almost equal now!
If you want to try it, i would buy it for ps3, even without the expansions it already has over 300 hours of gameplay, and the owrld is bigger than FFXII I think.

You may want to skip it then. The game doesn't focus you on the main plot and character development is based on what you do not preplanned. Stats mean EVERYTHING not levels. You have to know what you are doing with stats and must have a tendency to explore because the game won't hold your hand(took me several days to find the Priest after I got let out of jail). But I will answer your questions the best I can.
1. Yes it is bigger then the world of FFXII. Also no loading while in the outside world unless you head into a city. They are surrounded by gates and walls to keep out monsters. Everything is to scale.
2. The storyline is good and the mythology/history is wonderful. You'll have to find ingame books to read about it because only the collectors edition came with an handbook. The story is great but is not the main focus because like Lucifer said. It is what you can do, anything except own a shop. The quests are much more memorable than the story. A lot of time making the world feel more then just your adventure.
3. You are alone so you don't really get many people to join your group. More like temp. guests. I find myself liking certain characters though. Like that dark elf in the city with the moon on their shields(can't remember). She asks if necrophilia is illegal in Tamerial like it is in Morrowind. I found that pretty amusing.
Lucifers-Assassin: No I don't sorry. BUT I GOT DWARF ARMOR....yeah that is it.
Desi, Lucifers-Assassin: Thank you very much for your responses.
It's true I do tend to prefer Japanese style RPG's, but I'm not averse to trying new games/game styles. For me a great game is a great game, it doesn't matter what the genre of it is. From what I've heard about it, I would probably love Oblivion as it sounds completely different to what I'm used to seeing in RPG's - to be honest I could do with a break from the usual JRPG cliches.
I'll definitely be giving Oblivion a try when I get my PS3 (whenever that is!).
I have Oblivion on PC (Tsh I know what the hell it that) and after replaying it a few times I realised Morrowind was far better.
Oblivion although larger and graphicially better, Morrowind had something which made it much more fun and more engrossing. Yeah my character, as Desi said, which the Boots of Blinding Speed had over 400 speed and 150 Althetics.. jumping over mountains was great.
I loved how the storyline in morrowind made your character god. which ever character you chosed, even argonian, you would still be a god to the entire home of dunmer. Dagoth Ur ftw.
Oblivion, i think, was appealing to the masses as the game was set in a predominatly human environament, which made it more medieval, rather then fantasy.
Shinshoku, yes there is something different. Nothing major, but you get knights of the nine for free with the PS3 version.

Ooh, I bought that for £15, all the mods came in seperate zip folders on the dics, no installers.. though I pretty good at PCs, it was just cheap. Also.. it'll already torrented the mods so I really didn't need it
Big minor about Oblivion was the monster and treasure scaling, it really made me bored with the game. Where in Morrowind you found yourself in a random tomb somewhere picking up quite nice enchanting stuff, Oblivion didn't give you that so you just stuck to story.
Though I thought the soundtrack was much better, and SEAN BEAN, thumbs up.

Yeah like the new battle system was trying for a broad appeal. Love the new books more then the morrowind ones though.
I thought one good thing about oblivion was the battle system, no more mindlessly pressing the right trigger hoping to hit the orc. The bad thing was the treasure stuff, I mean you could'nt steal stuff that you were not supposed to have at the level you were on.
Another bad thing was enemies were always matched for your level so you can never just go back and zip through a cave you had already been through or know not to go somewhere because you would die.
And plus, who does'nt like seeing people fall out of the sky in morrowind?
That was great. Shame there was no voice acting for morrowind. 'cept for the final boss and Azura. Would've been great to hear "ahhhhhh-arghhhhh-splat"
