Today, a Korean court banned the music video "Sonata of Temptataion" from television broadcast. The video, a recent release by Korean pop singer Ivy, is a live action remake of the fight scene between Tifa and Loz in Square Enix's Advent Children.
Square Enix brought charges of copyright infringement against Ivy and her production company last month. The court ruled in their favor, saying "Other than the parts where the singer is dancing with dancers, the video has a noticeable similarity to the film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children", even though the video does contain a notice near the beginning stating that the action scenes are based on scenes from the movie.
Any comments?
My personal one is, "What a rip off."

I heard about this last month but I didn't realise they were being sued I suppose it's a pretty good job of a live action rip off...shame the song is terrible. Destroy them Square!

Ok, not only the setting was a rip off, almost the entire song was it. It was a massive tecno remix of fur elise, some mexican opening, the typical high pitch "some body do it", a calm short "magical" break and a setting of rap. But I got to give them credit for the biri biri biri part, loled at that.
The music was farly good IMO, like "id hit it" good.
But AWESOME bloom effect and camera work BTW.

And it f***ing hurts
The setting was too bright and happy for a fight scene. I like Fur Elise, For Elise, whatever, so that really pissed me off too. It's like she couldn't come up of a single original idea. Even though you couldn't understand her I wonder why she put "some body do it". She wanted to put English in it I guess. But she can't do it like Utada Hikaru can.
"Loz"'s outfit made me laugh.
They totally copied every single camera angle that Square Enix used. That made me uber goober mad. No originality at all!
The first kick that "Loz" landed on "Tifa"/Ivy, she skidded, not in flowers as in the movie, but just the plain concrete. Now I found that interesting. Since she wanted everything to be exactly like the movie why didn't she see that?
They even had the electric charge that Tifa got from Loz's weapon. And Ivy didn't hit her head multiple times on the pew before being flung at the wall. I say they shoulda had her head hit. Maybe knock some common sense into her.
I know I'm totally flaming the video but I find it incredibly insulting. Especially if I worked at Square Enix. I mean, she took their work! And didn't even ask!
(Pft. The little girl's expression when Ivy was getting "beat" by "Loz" is so funny! She's like, "Eh who cares.")

Well I may be on the other side of the fence. But that was a pretty good rendition. I mean, seriously it was. The music may suck and the actors aren't as sexy as me but it was pretty good. Square won but I feel kind of bad, they should look at it like a fan video(better then most anyway) and just demand some payment but still allow it to air there was even a notice at the beginning. And how does that make FF fans look bad?

Hm..I can see your point but I'm gunna have to stick with my side. I do admit though that it was a pretty good rendition. I guess Square took it pretty hard when she didn't ask for permission to use any of it. Perhaps that's why they won't let her air it anymore.
I have no idea why it makes FF fans look bad. Did I say that?

This is one of the reasons i stick to Utada Hikaru and Koda Kumi etc...
But the video was good, the music made me laugh. xD
It had random english in it, whether it was involved in the song im not sure.
Loz made me giggle so hard! The costume sucked and he looked scrawy. Could of at least made him a bit macho, they put rendition in it, why no machoness?!
Heh, this is what some person said to me about my comment.

these guys went beyond and out and did something that square enix didn't even think about and fuck if you didn't like it then stop looking at it. fucker.
Yup that's what he said. Though I handled it. With my wit.

Firstly I have the right to say what I feel. I feel as though it was a rip off. Second, my opinion about the court case doesn't really matter. She lost it, Square won. Third, I could come up with something totally unique and on my own so I don't appreciate it when you disown me and discredit me for something YOU can't confirm. I understand her appreciation for Square's work.

my question is...where did they find that church???
my opinion always kinda opposes everyone else's but i didnt mind that, except that they could've searched more for better lookalikes. oh come on marlene was nothing like the one in ffvii:ac
how did he disown you exactly? The only discredit if you can call it that was that you didn't think of a korean music video with real people. He can use fuck as much as he wants, it is still more adult or "professional" then "forget you" or "dumb dumb"( since you already learned bad and meanie). It wasn't a ripoff in the since of money it isn't even plagiarism since they credited Square. If that was the cast 8-bit theater would not still be up. I still feel bad for the girl, they didn't need to let all that work go to waste.

Oh wow. *dies*
Eh...that was my bad choice of words. He discredited me I guess since basically said I had no creativity. When I do. All I did was voice my opinion. And in real professional "debates", people don't normally use cuss words until one gets pissed so bad they're ready to murder someone. Maybe I was voicing my opinion again, since I grew up in a home that does not use cuss words, using them that way in such a manner is something foreign to me. I never noticed that they credited Square Enix. That is my mistake if they did.
I guess people are getting the wrong impression of my feelings. Let me clear them up slightly. Square Enix's Side > Ivy's side. I do think that it's really cool that she chose to reenact the fight scene between Tifa and Loz because it's Final Fantasy. But I was, and still am, under the impression that she didn't give Square Enix the credit. If she did show credit please tell me where she did (in an interview, etc.) so that I can clear everything up.
