Chastising Remark: You further corrupt an already deeply tainted thread! When will this madness end?

I don't know how people jacking off to their own proud and mighty sense of secularism is supposed to be fun to begin with. Get over yourselves... Bright priest, btw. He's looking a whole lot smarter than all those brilliant, atheist scientists that were suppressing climate data. Global warming; impending calamity, or god for the godless? We'll see

That was a remarkably insightful quote.

I love how these Old Farts think they're about something. Personally, I'd just love to drop firecrackers and their cars and watch them shit their diapers.

Notes from watching the clip.
He isn't a spokesman because he's an individual. "Position of George Coyne" isn't the Church. There's no official view on evolution because the Church is based around the Bible and the Bible doesn't mention it because the writers of the Bible had no clue. He can't pronounce "Neo". "Best scientific origins" not Churchy opinion. "Only a theory" stems from Ronald Regan. New Pope's opinion is dicey. He's the guy who said that AIDS is spread through the use of condoms and that the emancipation of women in the 50's was brought about by the introduction of the washing machine. Culture, literature etc. is man made. In the same vein religion is/was an arbitrary status quo, not a universal Truth. Science can't bring science into the supernatural because the supernatural is beyond science? Wtf. Evidence of the supernatural lies in religious texts. And I thought you were an intelligent person. Fuck, shoot me, I'm taking this too seriously. Someone bring back the funnies! |

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind"
A quick note that "lame" probably references it is disabled, as in a horse is lame, not as in "its boring."

I never understood why atheists and hyper-religious sorts are so adamant that science and religion are mutually exclusive things. Most Christians I know don't take the Bible literally, and most churches will tell you you shouldn't.

IMO, it really depends on what section. Some of the stuff is dated yes, but other parts can be directly applied today and still be provocative and meaningful; while still taking it literally.

Of course. Thou shalt not kill should be taken very literally.
God created the earth in seven days should not.
