What do you like about the title design of "FINAL FANTASY"? In your own opinion, what does it mean to you? What do you think is the message the "FINAL FANTASY" title is trying to convey?
I think it is a comment on the fact that the franchise originated as a last ditch effort by Square to make a successful game.
I also think it comments on the idea that the franchise attempts to create the ultimate fantasy game for it's time in every iteration.
I think the FINAL FANTASY title together with the logo is very strong. If you look at the white background box arts it just feels like Final Fantasy is of a higher level than the other games
To me, "Final Fantasy" means the transition between fantasy(ending) and reality(beginning), nothing else really. It's anything but final, and as far as fantasy goes, like I said, its becoming a step closer to reality.

Nagase: You're missing the original III logo, mate. Wasn't it like that golden sword or something?

Dire: Oh, so sorry man, my mistake. Not only did I screw up that, FFII's logo had the sword, I forgot all III was was the flowy text. Sorry again, Dire!
That out of the way, why WAS III never actually relesed in the US? because there was too much confusement about the whole III being IV here, and II being IV? My collection feels a big enough gap without it, so does my knowledge database, lol.

"Final Fantasy" was originally named as such since it was to be the final game released by that studio as I remember reading somewhere a long time ago. It's unexpected success has obviously brought the series to where it stands today and although the name no longer means what was intended, it has become a household name in its own right and even people who hate the series cannot deny its media appeal.
Personally, the series has come so far now that dropping the name would be social and financial suicide for the most part and it still invokes a lot of passion for a lot of gamers. Its a well established trademark so it will stay and its reputation speaks for itself.
I like the design in that the letters are in a very simple type style, however each different chapter gets its own distinct and Amano-awesomeness background image that relates to the main theme of each chapter.
Which is also this diverseness that compels me to play many FFs unlike certain games that have the same theme each game as in saving the same dang princess from the same dang villain over and over and over... I simply find it amusing how people put it on such pedestal... hehe.
