But I do believe the mythology is only lightly hinted at in the game, if they had drawn from it more I'm sure tons of things would have made more sense, but it was so vague in game even after you read the logs and such.

Etro? I'll have to research that name; I've not come across it in the Analects yet.

Etro is referred to as "Her Providence" in the Analects.

I think a XIII-2 is in order. If they make one, it should be set during the war of transgressions so maybe they can properly explain certain things such as the Tejins Tower and shed some light on unanswered questions...
