Am I the only one excited for the Sphere Grid-like levelling system? I quite liked it in FFX, although it could have definitely used some more work, since it was just too basic. Who knows, it may be a hell of a lot better in FFXIII, so we can't really judge yet.
Btw....FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU for Fang not coming into the game until close to the end. I'm really hoping that's false, otherwise that fucks up my proposed party! If it is true though, I'll substitute her with Hope until she joins up I guess.
No, you most definitely aren't. I love the SG-type levelling system as well. I really don't have problems with the layout or functionality of any leveling system .. as long as it gets the job done, I'm happy.
Also, I'm having the same reaction as you about Fang! I felt quite spoiled when I saw that info, but I'm truly hoping it's false; or as Little Miss Scarlett suggested, she joins last.

Nope, I am as well. I think it has a lot of potential so far because I've always thought the Sphere Grid did period.
It looks like it has some depth to it as well (in terms of 3-Dimensional). You can see a path coming upward and one beneath it.
Damn, too bad you still cant read what stats they are upping.
However, in Snow's case you can see that the center of his disc is the attack command, from there on you can go 3 different directions (one being +70HP, cant recognize the others). In Lightnings case you can see how a HP sphere is opened/unlocked/used.
On the left side is Cocoon's amusement park, called ノーチラス・パーク (Nautilus Park?) and the bottom pictures shows us one of the street corners of that place. They also note that you scan see "someone" that looks like a summon on the video wall. (well obviously its Siren)
Snows disc:
Snow's case you can see that the center of his disc is the attack command, from there on you can go 3 different directions. One being +70HP, another one I cant recognize and the path going to the bottom of the disc is highlighted/shining which means its the way to a new ability.
Fire
This ability can be used by the Blaster role. Its attack power and its costs to use are small, therefor its easy to use.
Fira
Using the crystallium system you can level up the Blaster role, which will enable you to use Fira at some point. The spell hits nearby enemies too (so it works on groups).
Firaga
If you advance even more, you will get the high class magic Firaga. It has a bigger range, so you can hit even more enemies with it and it also blast enemies into the air.
I'm excited about the Sphere Grid-esque leveling system. I enjoyed that in X. I'll be looking for Break Damage/HP/MP Limit abilities to make uber characters (like in X)
As long as there's no remnants of the stupid ass License Board in this new system, then I'm good.
License Board = WORST leveling system EVER
Can't wait for more information about this. I'm getting more excited for this game by the day!

It all makes sense. With all that said, you can net a lot of CP and then level up abilities further under certain roles. Is this what you mean (below)?
Blaster:
Initially begins with Fire. Spend CP points to advance it to Fira and even more for Firaga.
If so, then sweet! I'm hoping if they release a NA demo version, that it will touch on these aspects more.

That would kickass! I hope they do release a NA demo... soon.

According to the scan, it seems like that way (and it makes sense).
Only worry would be that the system could become too confusing, one basic disc for stats, multiple discs (one for every role), a system to upgrade weapon and maybe something related to summons and all that x6 xD.
Yeah, that would be a headache. I thought Final Fantasy IX's Weapon system was very interesting so I'd be wondering what their approach will be this time.
Something that would be cool, is that once the character unlocks a spell like Fire/Fira/Firaga under one role, it's "cheaper" in another. Why? Because it would be awesome!

I don't mind things that are confusing. A lot of times, there's a learning curve to understanding the system. Like, when I first played VIII, the junctioning system was like a mind fuck. I couldn't understand it at all. Now though, it's like the simplest thing ever. I like a challenge.

I'm a FFX fan so this news is pretty exciting, aesthetically it looks very clean and cool. Also i'm glad that they will have defined roles that you can break out of with more effort. I like having unique characters, but for those who don't, there you go. I don't mind if the system a little confusing at first either, I find it really disappointing if a leveling system in a game is completely straightforward from the get go.
And one thing that bugs me about sphere grid hate is the one complaint everyone always brings up, "everyone is the same by the end of the game." I just replayed it recently and... no. When I beat the game, all the characters had completed their own sections and were about halfway into another character's. Maybe I just didn't grind myself retarded.

I like having unique characters too. It's WAY easier to keep the characters unique in X than say in XII, where they're pretty much interchangeable. Though I did 'grind myself retarded' in X where all my characters do 99,999 damage and have 30,000+ HP and like 7,000+MP. But I'll only ever do that once .

It's been awhile since we've been able to surpass that 9999 HP Mark. It would be too much work with roles, but I don't know how the HP will function unless it is just unique to the character period (like a natural thing instead of HP being based off of roles).
Add me to the list of Sphere Grid lovers! I'm really excited about FFXIII's Crystarium; it looks totally awesome and I'm hoping it's an improvement from the Sphere Grid. Awesome as it was, it still had some kinks, so it could still do with some improvements! (Please keep the good stuff and improve the bad stuff...!)
Also can relate to Jay_Z; how can everyone think that the Sphere Grid causes "everyone to be the same by the end of the game"? They should really look at what the License Board does to the party, then!
And I agree with XIII_Lightning, FFXII's License Board was one of the worst levelling systems, because it wasn't one. You levelled up by gaining EXP. The License Board was just for you to unlock "Licenses" to use a weapon/magic, which you had to buy from the shops anyway. I thought that was stupid, but forgave it anyway since it was an Ivalice concept.
And a huge thanks to taepoppuri for the scan, and des for the translations!
My thoughts about the Crystarium: I just realized that the Crystarium is like a merge of the Sphere Grid and the License Board; instead of LP you get CP, and with the CP you use them like Sphere Levels to unlock stuff on the "discs"!
Totally agree with the potential headache that the multiple "discs" could give, but hopefully we'll get past the learning curve easily. It actually makes absolute sense that since there're already multiple "discs" per character, they could just add one more for their weapons which they can also evolve.
And about Nautilus Park: I guess it being the "theme park" of Cocoon, it's FFXIII's version of FFVII's Gold Saucer! This also makes the scenes with those colourful bobbly trees have more sense; they could be Nautilus Park! (Remember those scenes with Vanille, Sazh and Dajh?) Also, all the minigames come here, as well as potentially be where the Jazzy Chocobo theme can be heard... It all fits in!
And my theory for Siren, Carbuncle and Ifrit would be that they are also featured in Nautilus Park, as some kind of performers or circus acts/stars? Siren plays the harp, and appears on a TV screen, while Carbuncle's appearance in this game is so jester/clown like! It would also make sense since Carbuncle has a plushie, and has "fans" that rave about his cuteness.
