Just wondering. What kind of expectations do you guys have for this FF? I got high hopes. Wanna know why? Cause Nomura, Nojima, and Kitase are working on it. The same guys who did FF6,7,8, and 10 which are fantastic games. I'm just glad its not the same guys that did FF12. See ya Matsuno, dont let the door hit ya on the way out.
The only expectation I have of XIII is that there aren't unecessary cutscenes that screw up the gameplay. From what I've seen in the trailers the gameplay will prove to be very good.

Things FF13 needs to have:
+ Breathtaking Story
+ Deep Character development
+ A main character that aint some 17 year old fagboi that doesnt play a role in the story.
+ Music that matchs Nobuo Uematsu
+ A villian that as a evil entiontion (thinks Sephiroth, Kefka, Kuja) and has a goal.
Things FF13 needs to have:
+ Breathtaking Story with 8th grade quality romance and all.
+ Deep Character development that only teens can provide. They must be teens so they can go through identity crisis'.
+ A main character that ain't some 17 year old somewhat leaning on the homosexual side boy that doesn't play a role in the story only because I dislike the idea of views from the outside.
+ Music that matches Nobuo Uematsu that means 80's keyboard and one tone melodies I LOVE IT.
+ A villian that as a evil intention (thinks Sephiroth, Kefka, Kuja) and has a goal- Cliche I love it
I want non instanced battles and maybe some character customization. That's about it. They can do whatever they want after that.
I expect FFXIII to be a great game that will really show the world what the PS3 is capable of. I want to be surprised by things I have never seen in the series before and for it to be an RPG unlike any previously released. I like what I have seen so far, and have no doubt that it will turn out to be a quality title.

You know Matsuno left Square in 2005, a year before FFXII was released, right? (He ended up in hospital suffering from an unspecified 'illness'.) Personally, I've liked all the Matsuno games I've played (FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, FFXII), I think Square lost a major talent when he left the company.
His games not filled with enough self important teen angst for you, Ragnarok?

I would love it if the main character in FFXIII was a 17 year old rampant homosexual, just because it would annoy you so much.
im not going to build up expectations for FF13 because i did that with FF12 and i was gravely dissapointed..atleast this one looks closer to past games, but different at the same time. ill just wait till the game is out before i get to excited or not, and just keep myself busy with the games coming out for 360.
i have high expectations ..it looks to be a great epic game i just hope they take their time with it and dont ruin it .disapointment is common these days
I have High expectations for FFXIII,, I really like how it actually looks diffent, with newer weapons.
As fo FFXII, I did not think it was as good as FFX but it was nice to actually have a story that was diffrent from the normal Of "Party of four saves the world unexpectedly!" I also thought the Characters were cool, Balthier was pretty awesome.
I actually loved FFXII. Love everything in the game, except it could use some more mini games and some characterinteraction. I loved the art style, story and Balthier is waaaaaaay cooler than Cloud. But i think lightning will pawn all.^^
I want pretty much all the stuff that everyone else said, except I like cutscenes, haha ';
Also, I know some people, especially guys, don't, but I do want a return of romance. Not like VII-I HATE love triangles, especially unresolved ones. Also, I don't care for mere hinting, like they did in FFXII. I like to know for sure. I mean, I like how FFVIII had clear relationships, even though I didn't like Rinoa, and after playing the game through about five times, *playing through it again...haha...*, I've come to realize how annoying Squall is, when I used to love him, XD
I'd like for the romances to be kind of unexpected, like main guy with someone other than main girl, and same for the main girl. Example: I've been designing a game since Junior High (it has changed so much, XD), and there is romance, but it doesn't take up too much time either. ANYWAY, the main guy and the main girl are childhood friends (imagine that). For the sake of sanity, main guy=MG, main girl=MF, ok.
MG confessed he loved her when they were 17, MF didn't feel the same way. MG didn't take it well and joined the military/gov't, and didn't see each other until they were like 21 or something, when MF searches MG out because she's dying, etc etc. MG ends up falling in love with another character who has an important role, but isn't the MF, and MF falls in love with MG's military friend/partner.
It sounds stupid when I lay it out in such a skeletal way, but I don't want to detract from my point: new pairings with the romance, instead of complete lack of it....
Ive got pretty high hopes for Final Fantasy XIII. Not because its an FF game. But because Square seem to be putting a lot of effort into it. I agree that FF12 was a big let-down. I mean 4 years to make the goddamn game and it was no where near better then X.
The fact that they are redesigning alot of the gameworks to fit to new specifications of players (the 3/4 in-line fighting is old) The way FFXII used battles was good...but far too easy to play. (you could just sit there and let them fight if you really wanted to)
The graphics in the trailer already look awesome and they aren't even complete yet.
Also, I don't care for mere hinting, like they did in FFXII. I like to know for sure. That was one of the worst ones. Squall actually hated Rinoa for two whole discs he even blew off on her in disc 1(and I mean BIG TIME). Then I put in disc three and he is madly in love with her. It was such a horrible moment.
Oh and Vaan and Penelo are boyfriend/girlfriend. That was said before Penelo was introduced. Unless you are talking about Fran/Balthier affair (but we all know Vaan wants to move in on Fran).
lol yeah...the whole thing with Squall does seem a little unrealistic.
Yet, if you did some things Squall actually tells her that he missed her-i.e. on Disc two if you send her to the Missile Base, he tells her that he missed her.
There are little things...I don't think Squall 'hated' her, but he was definitely annoyed by her.
BTW, when did they actually say that Vaan and Penelo are bf/gf? I mean, don't get me wrong, I think they are, but they changed the description of their relationship as childhood friends, not bf/gf (I looked at the walkthrough for the game).
But yeah, I was more talking about Fran and Balthier, or Basch and Ashe (god no...but my friend stands by them. @.@), or Balthier and Ashe (he does some pretty obvious flirting, and if you watch him whenever Al-Cid is hitting on Ashe he looks really annoyed or even pissed).
With Balthier and Ashe I'll also add that Balthier is a flirt by nature so that hardly means love or anything, but I like them together-they remind me of Han Solo and Princess Leia (except Balthier and Ashe get along better)
Anyway, back to FFVIII I liked the other relationships though: Laguna and Raine (and even Laguna and Julia);Irvine and Selphie (kind of); Zell and the girl from the library.
Anyway...Squall never really completely rips into her, that I remember. He asks her how serious she is etc but that's not ripping into someone. Also, if you pay attention he kinda teases her a little (ok, like once) and it seems even flirts (when they're talking about the dance when they meet in the train)
Anyway, I have to go, so there's all that

He just about says that to anyone you send to the missile base.

That was said when there was only Vaan and Ashe CG art. Matsuno said that the male already has someone in his life, so him and Ashe won't fall in love. They may have changed the concept to more friend zone terms later but it was a full relationship before.

The one of the few times he rips into her (and it is a major one) is after the President assassination attempt. He goes off and off and Zell asks him to stop. Normally his relation to her is the same as it is to everyone else in the group, she just noises in and puts herself in his life like a unwanted child, which what would you know, she kind of is.

So...yeah. lol
That was a nice idea, im sick of the two main characters two fall in love.
Anyway, back to FFVIII I liked the other relationships though: Laguna and Raine (and even Laguna and Julia);Irvine and Selphie (kind of); Zell and the girl from the library.
Laguna and Raine is probably my favourite love story in the whole series, it just somehow seems more real than the others, and to me far more interesting than the central Squall/Rinoa love story. Laguna just has a kind of natural rapport with Raine and it's easy to tell even from the first scene in Winhill that they are already in love with eachother - the dialogue between them is very carefully written and observed. Plus, the ending sequence with Laguna at Raine's grave and the flashback to him proposing to her is a real heartbreaker and one of the greatest emotional moments in all the FF games.
I love FF8, it's still my favourite FF game and even though I liked Squall, Rinoa and the rest of the orphanage gang, for me it was Laguna that was the real star of the show. I've said it before in another thread but I still think he is one of the best FF characters ever.
I would love it if FFXIII had a romantic aspect to the story that can rival that of FF8. If Lightning is the main character, it would also be great to see the love story presented from a female perspective, just because it would make a change from the rest of the series.
I always have high expectations for Final Fantasy games. I have even more for this one. I like the futuristic ideas. The characters that we've seen so far look extremely cool. The graphics will be on another level. The battle sequences are beautiful. I have a feeling this game is going to blow fans out the water.

Yeah, definitely! That scene is so sweet but also so sad! One of my favorites!
