I was thinking, how about we make a Debate Forum so we can post things about politics, religion, etc. because I want to start a thread on it.

lets talk about the 2008 elections ..seriously there is no one to vote for. if hilary gets elected i might just kill myself presidency is the mens role in our country.and the rest of them arent much better ..also does anyone else think the'war' in iraq is just a money making scam instead of an actual war..?

As long as the next ruler of the western world isnt a) stupid, b) obsessed with oil and c) military obsessed monkey boy, i will be happy. The Debate Forum idea sounds cool. However it could get out of control to some extents.

Going back to the original suggestion of the debate forum...

Personally, I think if a debate forum is going to be made, there have to be certain rules made -- stuff like proper conduct, minimal length, no chatspeak, etc. I'm also not too sure about religious debate, because it can get really out of hand sometimes (and that's an understatement).

A debate forum is a good idea but only if everyone behaves. Like Rikku says there's gonna have to be some rules put in place. I'll add the forum and write up some guidelines some time soon after i'm done working on the stuff i'm currently doing with the site. Also I think it would fit in better as a subforum inside General Chat, anyone else think it should be anywhere else?

Well, I looked around and I guess nobody's implemented the idea (unless I'm blind. Which I wouldn't be surprised at).

But anyway, I'm going to disagree with you Cheryl (T__T) and Desi. While it is true that if not properly managed, it could degenerate into mindless flaming and such, I have faith in most members of this forum that I know in that they are respectful enough to keep serious discussion mature. =P Especially if rules are properly enforced.

I've seen tons of forums where debate is just horribly retarded, but I've also seen quite a few that have pulled it off well. Plus, if you're really that paranoid, religious debate could be banned except for very special, carefully monitored instances. >=O

Besides, the large walls of text in the Off Topic forum are looking horribly out of place right now. o_O

I'm not sure about an entirely new debate forum; perhaps the 'general chat' forum could be implemented as a debate - or discussion - forum as well. I don't think much would spring up with an entirely new debate forum; it just seems a bit too deliberately serious for me. I like that kind of spontaneous pop up of a subject that everybody's willing to contribute their opinions to.

But I definitely agree that a place for debating/discussing things other than entertainment and regular oddities would be nice.

And about the trojan walls of text in the off topic section as well. They're kind of off topic, if you know what I mean.

That's true about the part of people not keeping thier mouth shut. And you know....my parents are democrat and after seeing that qoute I didn't say anything. I can keep my mouth shut.
