Why is this game hated ?

This is my second fav FF and I dont understand why its hated so much. I thought the story was fantastic. Is it cause it was "kiddie" I ask ya, when have FF games been based off of that? I thought it was the deep story/plot, characters, Nobuo's music, and fun gameplay that made an FF game. And this one is no exception. I just don't understand.

Screw Nobuo's music. IX is just a magical adventure of great awesome super love. It is a great fantasy world that is totally underrated. To me, it picked up right before the second disc(in the raining city) before that it was horrible.

FF9 is a great game, although for me it's real strength is in the quality of the writing. It had the best translation/localisation of any FF game before (and probably since) and was full of brilliantly written dialogue. The writers really knew how to write expressive, fun lines that made it easy to connect with the characters and made the game world an exciting place to be in.

Zidane is one of the best-written characters in the whole series, in my opinion.

I have to say that FFXII in my oppinion is written and characterised superbly. I think its one of the better FF's. Balthier and Basch have such brilliant english voice actors, they pull it off excellently.

The love story in IX moves me. The areas are just brilliant places oozing creativity.

i think that IX brought back the fantasy in final fantasy after VIII. I think that it should in the top 5 FF games

The charaters. Thats why I hated it. I just didnt care about them... Theyre were boring and not really that special.

And Steiner had eye-liner WTF

This is a great game. The chibi characters where cool and detailed, the story and the world combined was fantastic. Chocobo island in the corners of the world was awesome. Flying the chocobo was fantastic. And Vivi marrying Quina is the most hilarious game moment in history ^^

Everything about this game is so underlooked. The story IMO is spectacular. It had a lot of plot twists especially after you found out that Kuja was the main bad guy. That was when the game just skyrocketed.

It doesnt matter what they look like, as long has they have a will and develop thats all that matters. Honestly I think Zidane does look like a fag, but he developed character-wise really well. I still think Cloud is WAY better but thats my opinion.

I thought FFXII was crap too, because mainly as you just pointed out the lack of character development. I loved Balthier, he was so cool but there was no devlopment or involvement in the storyline. A character like Fran or Penelo could have just walked out never to be seen again and it wouldnt have changed the storyline at all.

To me the way they look means alot... You're looking at them for usually about 50+ hours, even double that if its good, so if they look stupid and lame it puts me off.

Same thing for villians. Just cause they got some big-ass sword doesnt mean "ZOMG HE TEH BEST VILLIAN EVER!!!" I thought Sephy was the best villian in FF, but that was because of his evilness, not because of his looks :/

He did develop, he just wasn't the hero so he didn't dig in his bag of tricks to singlehandedly save the world(continent actually). He also had a girlfriend so I don't see how gay he is, bisexual maybe but gay no.
