I never thought I'd see the day, but it's true. It was announced in 2008, but I hadn't heard about till now. It's slated for a 2011 release. Guess who's playing Spike? Keanu Reeves.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Hmm... I wonder if it'll be as painfully boring as the anime version was. If they condense it to movie length I guess it could be good, I did love Ed and the little doggie too so yeah I'll look out for it.
Yeah I heard that Keanu Reeves actually had a part in pushing for this movie to happen.
According to the site where I heard it, he really likes the show.
Hopefully this won't suck
But it's official guys, Video games and Animes / TV shows are Hollywood's next target
Games
Prince of Persia
Uncharted
Bioshock
Shadow of the Colosses
Halo (If it ever gets the budget or support it needs)
Metal Gear Solid (Yeah it's happening)
Gears of War
Warcraft (still early in development)
Tekken (although I havn't heard anything in a while)
Animes/ TV shows (this trend is just getting started)
Speed Racer
Dragon Ball Evolution
The Last Airbender
Cowboy Bebop
Blood the Last Vampire
Evangelion (It hasn't been officially announced yet but after Transformers 2 made so much money it will soon)
Yep and more will come. I'm wating for a Sailer Moon movie staring Hillary Duff
And just for the boys, they will make Megan Fox sailor Mars.

Their also doing a Ghost in the Shell movie. I'm kinda happy about all of the attention anime, manga, comics and games has been getting lately, its really opening up the industry to a wider audience. I just hope Hollywood doesn't commercialize and ruin it, but you know they will.

I'm still really pissed at Hollywood for fucking over Constantine. WHY on Earth they picked Keanu Reeves to play one of the most awesome comic book characters was completely beyond me. I could have picked a better actor for the job *coughguypearcecough*, or at least put them on the right track to portray a character I deeply adore instead of making it a completely different person. >_>
Having him play Spike will be a tragedy. Just because you like something doesn't mean you need to be screwing it up. D: I don't see how Keanu is anything like Spike, so I have a hard time understanding how this movie will be any good if they miscast the main character.
^He's mistaking Spike being laidback for emotionlessness, which is about his acting ability. I've been bitching about this for months. Apart from his casting I don't see how they can get the depth of the characterisation the series had into a film. What I can see is them simply doing the Spike/Vicious story, so Spike will get enough screen time to get some depth there (pity about who's playing him) and the other characters will be reduced to bit parts. Jet will be a wise old man who gives Spike advice, Faye will be recast as a simple love-interest and Ed will become the onboard computer who has sassy one-liners.

kurai warrior 1227 has a good point about the Evangelion movie. With Transformers2 raking it in Eva is all but a shoe-in for the green light.
I've spent a chunk of time researching that movie. It's been on the back-burner for a few years now. Seeing as the animated re-do's are currently in their prime it might still be a while. Certain key people are excited to do it. This is the single live-action adaptation that I'd actually want to see done right. Hopefully talented people will continue to see the value in this franchise.
As for Keanu in Bebop. He's got one aspect of Spike pretty down. I could see him doing the series' ending with all the seriousness and remorse (though not very well). But the parts of Spike that actually make a guy think he's cool; the cowboy, raucous, han solo, type attitude. That would be hard to come by in what I know of Keanu.

If they're going to make the movie, I hope it'll be better than dragonball evolution

I thought Keanu Reeves was cool in The Matrix. Seriously if there is a movie that I like him in, it would be that one. (Although the sequels sucked)
He's like half and half. Half his acting jobs are good, the other half suck. Although some movies can't be helped (The Lake House)
He's 45 years old, so they are gonna have to make him look younger, and they have the technology to do that.
They did it in X-men 3.

All of the Matrix movies were good, but the first one was just the best.
I dunno if he will do good in the movie. like he said, it's about a 50/50 chance; AND chances are, the movie will suck anyway because they will try and keep it at 1 hour and 30 min. and its quite hard to pin down complex characters in that time span.
