I think Lost Odyssey looks pretty great, it has a nice art style and the characters and storyline sound refreshingly different to most RPG's. I particulary like the idea that the main character is an immortal and has lived for 1000 years, which isn't something you see everyday in games.

The only things that dissapoint me so far are the fixed camera angles on the field screens and the inclusion of random battles - playing FFXII has made it really hard for me to go back to the 'old ways' of RPG games!

Sakaguchi is in my opinion one of the true greats of the games industry so I have faith that the game will turn out to be excellent, and certainly the best of it's kind on the 360.

OMG awesome shots. Nice graphics and I like the realism with his hair, unlike most video-game characters who has their hair in a "too perfect" fashion. This one is pretty realistic, but what's the deal with the golden armored guys with the funny helmet? o.0

Lost Odyssey to release this Christmas!!! from 1Up

"Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi revealed that Lost Odyssey, the second RPG from Sakaguchi's Mistwalker Studios, would ship this Christmas simultaneously in Japan and the United States. This simultaneous release comes as no big surprise, as Lost Odyssey seems to be more targeted toward a Western audience. Some of the proof of this can be found in Lost Odyssey's lip-syncing; the game is being lip-synced with English actors and the Japanese will be dubbed. Additionally, Sakaguchi said that the U.S. release of Blue Dragon is currently slated for an August release."

cool new wallpaper!!

I've decided I can't justify the purchase of a 360 just for Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, it's just gonna be PS3 for me.

Lost Odyssey does look really nice, I just wish Sakaguchi would see sense and make it and his other future releases for the PS3!

I guess for now I'll have to get my Mistwalker fix from ASH:Archaic Sealed Heat on the DS, whenever that finally gets released.

see sense in releasing it for PS3? as if it was non-sensical for them to be on 360?

this time around, the 360 is THE console for RPG's of all kinds..atleast until PS3 picks up the slack

i mean honestly if the purchase of a 360 cant be justified for you yet, id love to know what justifies a PS3 purchase...

I mean 'see sense' because Sakaguchi is making Japan-focused RPG's for a machine that is not selling in Japan. In that respect the release of the games on 360 is non-sensical, especially considering both are big-budget titles. I know PS3 isn't selling millions yet either, but it's already managed to outsell the 360 in Japan. It will be interesting to see how the games perform in the west, too.

The simple fact is, both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon would have a better chance of success in Japan if they were released on PS3. (The Wii doesn't really factor in this because it would be unable to recreate the graphical fidelity of either game.)

What justifies a PS3 purchase? Well there's Final Fantasy XIII and Versus for a start which should be pretty obvious....both of which I'd rather have than Lost Odyssey or anything else on 360.

The 360 doesn't really have anything else that appeals to me, at least not enough to make me want to buy the machine.

whats truly "non-sensical" in this case is to NOT want to support the 360 in thre area that is the reason why the system isnt popular in japan, that being RPG games...the 360 needs these games and its a great thing to have them finally..

and 2 games that wont even be released this entire year isnt a good justification for purchasing a PS3 over a 360 yet

here's my version of the newly released wallpaper

Please don't misunderstand me, I am not some PS3 fanboy/360 hater.
I am not trying to start a 360/PS3 flame war or anything like that.

I do not hate the 360 at all, actually. It does have some clear advantages over the PS3 (more organised online service for one thing). I've played various games on my friends 360 and enjoyed it. It's just that for me there's nothing in the line up of games that makes me need the machine. That's just a matter of personal taste, not a reflection of the machines themselves.

The ideal situation would be if Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were released on both machines, because then they would reach a much larger audience and Mistwalker's future would not be solely dependent on 360 sales to generate revenue for the company. I take your point about supporting the release of J-RPG's on the 360, I do not want Mistwalker to fail - I would actually love it if their games were massive hits in Japan, even if they are on a machine I won't be buying.

Apparently, Mistwalker have been looking at PS3 development (Sakaguchi was asked about this at GDC this week). He did describe it as a 'difficult' machine to work with, but who knows? Maybe there will be Mistwalker PS3 games in the future? Perhaps future releases will be multiformat? This would be good for Mistwalker, RPG fans and the games industry in general, I think.

Hey, I never said I was buying a PS3 yet! Where I live the machine hasn't even been released! I'll buy a PS3 either at the end of this year, or next year, depending on when the really big titles are released. I've got plenty of PS2 and DS games to keep me going till then. FFXIII and Versus are the main reasons I want a PS3, but they're not the only games I want for the system - Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 5, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and plenty of others for example.

I shall end on a positive note by saying that I think your Lost Odyssey wallpaper is really great. Nice work!

thank you

and its completely possible for Mistwalker to make games for PS3, there are just none in the pipeline currently

also if you are going to get a PAL Ps3, sucks that youre going to be missing out on alot of backwards compatibility

Here are some additional screenshots, nothing is new but its worth having here

In Lost Odyssey the player takes control of Kaim, a man who has been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. Gameplay revolves around the many generations of which Kaim is a part of, his loves and losses and conflicts of a world nearing a "mystical industrial revolution". Lost Odyssey's story is being penned by the award winning Japanese novelist, Kiyoshi Shigematsu who is working directly with the game's producer Hironobu Sakaguchi on the story sequences. Heading up the artistic demands of the title is famed Japanese comic artist, Takehiko Inoue, while famed composer Nobuo Uematsu has been recruited to create a more contemporary soundtrack. Mistwalker is developing the title, but code work has been outsourced to a studio named Feel Plus, a subsidiary of Microsoft created specifically to aid Mistwalker. Former Square employees at Microsoft are also involved.

may as well start sharing that dislike with every FF game before 12 seeing as random battles are pure bullshit...dont be so critical of a game that is admittedly underfeatured in the build youve seen, and not final by any means, wait till u play it..

in my opinion, random battles dont bother me as long as you dont get one every two steps, and i prefer my RPG's Turn Based..

opinions are opinions, everyone has different tastes..this game is very appealing to a person like me. my fav game of all time is still FF8

Didn't I claim that I am buying the game no matter what? Yes Random battles that are instanced are crap. Only random battles I like are when they are not instanced(Parasite Eve for example). It's features doesn't change the fact that it uses instanced battlefields. I can't take you seriously since you didn't even read my posts except the foul language that stood out. I even hate non random battles that are instanced(Chrono Cross for example). Just because the game is turn based doesn't mean they must use instanced random battles if that was the case Baldur's Gate(PC) wouldn't exist now would it?

Let me put it this way. If a RPG is supposed to be a epic journey with the most developed worlds why when ever I enter combat I get warped to a alternate dimension? This is not VR Troopers.

ok i did read your entire post . and all the games i mentioned are instanced (before 12) ..Sakaguchi said the game will have action elements, not shure as to what tho. i know it will have a front and back row(front for the melee central characetrs and back for spellcasters) and for all we know its not locked in place, and at some points characters may stand in different spots like in FFX-2..what i really want is to see a recent build of the game because id love to see what the combat system is really like, but whatever it is, i hope it has some great and challenging battles. i miss those kind of battles like VS Omega Weapon in FF8...that is my kind of thing

Ew Omega wasn't challenging, his strat was very disappointing ( the hero one).

Yeah I said I hate instanced battles, but didn't say I hate the games ex:I am really looking forward to LO but those battles piss me off same with BD. So yes pure BS. I hope I am allowed to move my units in battle like Magna Carta: Phantom of Avalanche(not Crimson Stigmata/Tears of Blood) because those were very interesting. He can keep his turn based battles just make them not instanced because Chrono Trigger sure as hell didn't(yes ATB is still turn-based).

But I love Takehiko's stuff. Vegabond is very nice and is supposed to be a biography of Musashi. A biography with pictures!!!!
