Default PAL PS3 not just Late, but Worse!

Sony sure know how to piss off half of their world market don't they.
Quote:
The European PS3 will feature the Cell Broadband Engine™, 60 GB hard disc drive, Blu-ray Disc player, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, SIXAXIS™ wireless controller. It also embodies a new combination of hardware and software emulation which will enable PS3 to be compatible with a broad range of original PlayStation® (PS) titles and a limited range of PlayStation®2 (PS2) titles.
That's from an official press release from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. If you didn't know the PS2 plays PS1 games by having some of the old PS1 chips inside it. That makes it so all games will be 100% compatible with the console. The PS3 has these chips aswell but now they've decided to remove these chips for the European version! This means they'll be using the PS3 to emulate these games which equals far less compatible games. An official list of compatible games haven't been given yet and probably won't until soon after launch so everyone look forward to your special surprise

Higher price and less features. Fucking pathetic.

Edit:

"Similar to Microsoft's Xbox 360 backward-compatibility strategy, Sony plans to release a series of firmware updates, via the PlayStation Network, that will increase the backwards compatibility of European consoles."

I wont mind at all if the patches are avalible on launch.

You can also check the compatible games on launch here.

I have a strange feeling that half of the games that will work will be NBA or FIFA games. God damn sports games. "This year FIFA 08 will feature almost 2 (zomg) new players." Yipee

I agree it is a disappointing situation, but if they are going to provide regular updates, then fair enough. I just hope that all my favourite PS2 games will become compatible at some point in the future. I'm not too bothered about the games I bought years ago, finished, and have hardly played since.

I think the reason why the backwards compatibility list hasn't been released yet is because Sony are still working on getting as many games compatible as possible before release. The first update is supposed to be available on launch day, so I would expect them to be working on this right up until the last minute - therefore the number of compatible games should be increasing daily as we approach the lauch date.

It's just annoying that again, it's an example of Europe getting the short end of the stick (and having to pay the most for it).
