Arent there supposed to be main characters not main characters? Meaning they all share the spotlight at different parts in the story.

Cant believe i put spotline XD (man I didnt realize i was that tired XP). Oh wellz. Techincally theres going to be alot of spotlights in FNC (as a whole not seperate if thats the road its going to take).

They do that in all rpgs. Its just either in another form or not done in great detail.

Yeah, some magazine did say that. But I wouldn't trust it completely. She's a cool character that they put a lot of effort into creating. I personally think that she at least plays an important role in the story and of course appears often in the game.
The main character'd better be as cool and appealing as her.
Why are we all assuming she isn't the main character? I think it is because we are thinking she is female and the only female character lead player we have had in a final fantasy game is in FFX-2 and VI. So i think it would be excellent to have a female lead in this game. I really do think aswell that lightning is the main character.

No. Hence why the word sexist was never used. I am merely trying to say that final fantasy fans would think... OH a female lead? Because of the fact that there have been so few within the series.

back to reality, she most likely wont take the main role but its said the developers want "to give a prominent role in the game to a strong, independent woman."

um...I'm a little confused....in this scan from a magazine, from an interview, the guy being interviewed (games director): Motomu Toriyama SAYS that Lightning is the main character...(on the right column near the top)
So therefore everyone who said she isn't the main character was wrong. It's really strange, because in PSM it said that she wasn't, but I don't think that the game's director would deliberately lie-I think he probably knows he'd probably get killed for that, lol
So I guess she is the main character after all. I kind of got excited about a new strong female character as the leader and how Lightning would fit in, but I don't mind her being the main character either

It could just be a case of bad translation, maybe Toriyama originally meant to say that Lightning is not the only main character. The trouble with a lot of the interviews with Japanese companies you read in the English language gaming press is that they are taken from the pages of Japanese magazines and websites (Famitsu, Dengeki, etc) and translation mistakes do occur.
However, as people have already pointed out, it does seem that now Toriyama is saying Lightning is the main character after all, which is fine by me - she seems like a great addition to the FF series from what we've seen so far.
Hopefully they'll reveal some new characters or other details about the game at the Square Enix party in May. I don't know about anyone else here, but the information drought is killing me!
