Default Eidos to be Squared by May

Publisher lays out timeline for completion of Square Enix acquisition, expects to be wholly owned by Japanese RPG maker as of April 22.

Call the caterers, because Eidos and Square Enix have set their wedding date. Eidos today released a planned schedule for its acquisition by the role-playing game publisher, and the union is set to be consummated on April 22.

As with any wedding, there's plenty to be done before the big day. Eidos has a meeting set for March 27 at which shareholders must approve a variety of resolutions related to the acquisition. If that goes forward as expected, on April 21, all listing and dealing of Eidos shares will be suspended, and on April 22, the company will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Square Enix.
The Japanese publisher's offer of £84.3 million ($120 million) has been unanimously recommended to Eidos shareholders by the firm's board. That total represents an offer of 32 pence ($0.46) per share, which is more than triple the company's value when the initial approach was made.
The deal is particularly enticing for Square Enix, because the Japanese publisher is making a concerted effort to increase its success in North America and Europe. While Final Fantasy is a heavy-hitting franchise around the world, Square Enix has traditionally lacked broadly appealing action games like Eidos' Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises. Previously, Square Enix attempted to acquire Ninja Gaiden publisher Tecmo, only to find its advances rebuffed in favor of a union with Dynasty Warriors publisher Koei.

YAY! First time I saw Eidos at FFVII, I wonderend what the hell that was, yet if those companies worked together and made FFVII, goddman, the next projects will be awesome.

According to Wikipedia Eidos was the publisher for FFVII Windows version.
So this meant they didnt help square in ffvii development.

I don't think Eidos has anything to do with FFVII and vice versa

afterall it is will become a subsidiary company to SE...
even then, they would probably be making/focusing on games not related to RPGs and its ilk. Like the first post said, SE wants and needs to appeal more to the US and EU audience outside of what they're already good at(i.e. action games).

and besides, why woud SE lend the FF series, the second biggest and most successful (and popular)rpg series(next to dragon quest) to Eidos when they're already "pwning" that series on their own

or I could be wrong,I'm only guessing

its just SE trying to make more money like any other big companies

Correction: Pokemon is THE biggest and most popular RPG series.

And Dragon Quest is only bigger and more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan. Not worldwide.

I didn't know,I thought it was world wide. Thanks for the correction.

But anyway, I don't think Eidos will have much of a role,if any, in the FF series unless SE is already making plans.

Sry, forgot to say that it was on the PC version. I didn't know that it didn't actually participate in the making of the game. My bad.

They better not turn Deus Ex 3 into a JRPG

It'll be interesting to have Square-Enix on the next tomb raider box

Good. SquareEnix should buy the entire gaming world.

On a more serious note, this will probably turn out pretty well though. Upper management will probably restructure Eidos and get things running more efficiently and profitably. I doubt we'll see any noticeable changes in Eidos developed/published games though; as far as gamers are concerned, if they don't read about it online they'll never know the difference.

Its sounds good i wonder what type of games the two will make together or will eidos start adopting some rpg game staples into thier adventure games ie: stat boosting , exp , leveling up ,special learnable attacks to add to regular guns and ammunition or will it be the same old stuff eidos usually puts out id like to see some new ip's made when they get working together and figure out how square -enix will retructure eidos but i like the idea of new types of games from the two .

First eidos , next the development of autonomous giant transforming robots next the world. .............................Hundreds of years later the universe!!!
