Today Final Fantasy VII will celebrate its 10th anniversary. About one week ago the old rumours came back to life again: will there be a Final Fantasy VII remake?
This rumour actually started back in 2000, when people wished for a Final Fantasy VII remake on the PlayStation 2. As we all know, this game has never been released on the PlayStation 2.
Ever since the E3 back in 2005, when Sony finally revealed all the PlayStation 3 details, and they also showed a Final Fantasy VII technical demo for the PlayStation 3. Was this the confirmation of the highly anticipiated Final Fantasy VII remake?
Square Enix never wanted to confirm or deny this rumour so far.
Now the rumours are back again, and Square Enix is expected to announce the title today. But don't get your hopes up yet. Square Enix is still busy working on Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII for PS3.

I really hope they remake it to be honest. If they are expected to say something today then I hope they do it bloody fast, and in major style.

Yay! Remake rumours 'ho! Whether or not I only just started playing VII, technically, Advent Children and the Tech Demo really made it obvious that the graphics would be awesome.
Personally I think FF7 and FF8 should be remade. As they are in my oppinion the better of the PS1 Final Fantasy titles. FF9 for some reason seems perectly fine the way it is grapically because of the exageratedness of the characters features. Hence why the graphics are fine in FF9. But ff7 and 8 should be remade. FF7 definetly.

Yeah, I wish they didn't get our hopes up too. I think the fact that FFVII is so big with fans makes it harder for us to cope with these sort of rumours because it builds up your emotions. I hate it lol.... I wish they would either say they will NEVER EVER remake it or just say they will remake it.... or even better.... just remake it without telling anybody and then we wouldn't have all this hype about waiting around for the game lol. We'd just be really shocked about it when it came out lol

The question is not, are they going to make a remake! The question is when!! It definately WILL happen.
Square-Enix wouldn't got through making a perfect tech demo and then just throw it away! They already have Cloud and Aerith designs, well, all of the characters if they can use the designs from Advent Children, since they do look the same in Dirge of Cerberus. They already have a design of Midgar and the entire opening of Final Fantasy VII!
Square-Enix has made remakes of all the Final Fantasy games up to Final Fantasy VII so far. I think they are going to eventually make remakes of Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX on the PS3.
I wouldnt mind seeing a bundled upgraded versions of the ff games on 1 or 2 discs. Still I dont own a ps3, nor would I go out and buy the remakes since there on gba.
Besides I read somewhere some ff titles are being remade for the psp.

It would be nice to see an upgraded version of VII + but i doubt it would happen.
And asfor the psp and ps1, the quality of the game is really the same, ok none taken the PSP's graphics are a bit better, but not as good as the ps2, so basically its inbetween, so it wouldn't be worth Square to upgrade a new game which will only go up a few notches in graphics.
If any FF PS1 game was to be remade, it should be remade on PS3.
But i really wouldn't actually buy them, apart from FFVII because i thought it was a really good game, but FFVIII and FFIX i thought lacked a bit for me.
Well thats my opinion.
I used to think a FFVII remake would be a good idea, but now I've changed my mind. To remake the game to modern standards would cost a huge amount of time and resources, which I would prefer to be invested in creating new titles -preferably brand new franchises rather than more FF spin-offs.
I'd rather Square Enix carried on moving forward with new games and characters instead of being beholden to past glories.
It's not as though FFVII really needs to be remade anyway, the original game is still great today. It's gameplay is still as involving as it was back in 1997 and it beats a lot of modern RPG's for sheer enjoyment.
Even if I don't think there will be a remake or not, I would still love one. I know quite a few people say it'd be pointless wasting all the time and stuff, but not for me. Even if it's the exact same game, with just PS3 graphics, I'd love it. Normally, graphics aren't everything. But if it's a remake of FFVII (or any classic like it for that matter), improved graphics with the same game would be fabulous imo. I doubt they are currently working on it (or plan on it anytime soon...or quite possibly never), but I'd love it. lol, I was thinking the other day, how cool would it be, if one day they just announced it's been released, without even confirming a remake or anything. That'd be awesome. It'd be quite a shock (and quite a feat) for hiding it, but surely millions of fanboys world-wide might just die of shock
