As time passes, I see that the world is getting worse. Is there turning back now?
Did it sound deep? Well anyways I think this is stupid. People don't get married by love anymore. Only the interests count. It's like we came back to medieval age. How can a 10-year old child not want to divorce a man who has age enough to be her father? Some days ago, it was the story of the fucking 13-old kid who had become a father and now THIS? Damn!

Lol, for a start it's sick and wrong, but to be honest, nothing really surprises me anymore.
The world's a pretty funked up place, most people only want one thing and don't bother marrying. Love seems to have been thrown out the window, and has been replaced by a whole lot of lust anyways.
I still wanna get married and all that, but only if I find an amazing girl, and jesus man, her family are fecked up...........marrying her at that age for a start, but then to someone old enough to be her father.
It's been legal in quite a few places over there for ages, and a lot of the time considered the norm. It's only the divorce that's unusual, plenty of girls get married off by their parents young to old guys who already have like two wives. It's been going on for centuries and it's still going to go on for longer. Humans never change, we always have been twats and we are still gonna be twats as long as we live, damn it!
And as for the direction this thread seems to be going, just as many people get married for love as they did hundreds of years ago - In Western countries, at least. The only difference is that now marriage isn't a necessity or socially expected.
You don't honestly believe that all the people that got married then - more or less everyone - actually loved each other? You had to, or be a social outcast, therefore convenience marriages were the way to go I prefer to have a choice, personally.
The grass is always greener on the other side, I'm sure quite a few people from then would love to live like we do now, even though we're essentially the same.

Come on guys, this kind of stuff really isn't that novel. 50 years ago the average person married at the age of 17, and 50 years before that it was perfectly normal for little girls at the age of 12-13 to get married and have kids. Hell some of them were married off the moment they started their period, which is STILL being practiced today in many countries, namely those with a lower life expectancy and/or have misogynistic cultures.
Saying that the world as now gone to shit or is getting dumber is not only stupid, but it's also naive. The world was always a fucked up and stupid place. We happen to have the luxury of living in a time where backwards perceptions about childbirth, marriage, and women are generally frowned upon, at least in the western world and modern eastern countries. If that poor child tried to get a divorce 50 years ago, she would have been denied and probably have been murdered by her family or spouse.
I look at this story as a small step for women and children's rights in the middle eastern world. I hope Nujood and all these brave women that have voiced out their cries of injustice become successful and start a social revolution.
Marriage hasn't changed. Some people married for love (which is actually a contemporary concept, probably less than 100-some years old) and some married for interest, and the rest married because if they didn't people thought they were gay or just plain weird.
and the rest married because if they didn't people thought they were gay or just plain weird.
That's why i hate the people who use value judgement to judge others. This means they are very conventional who still have the narrow visions. By the way, marriage with non-breeder style is quite interesting and fit with this current circumstance , population control.
Even though aurelia mentioned it people still post niave comments like "this world is so stupid" it has been going on for a while(frikin ages) and in some places its the norm to get married at like 14 or younger. Its what that culture deems normal and what we have been shaped to see as immoral.Im not saying that its moral but not everyone shares the same views. To be honest I dislike the word culture, its overused etc and there are other reasons why.
Of course in stories like these theres always the mention of "family reputation at stake" one of the things which makes my blood boil and how these parents deserve nothing more that a piece of dirt to look after. Why were they ever granted a child? These parents are very very misguided in thinking that they are trying to give their child their best when they are blinded by their ignorance.
Although not entirely related its funny how this girl seems way above her years when that 13 year old father alfie replied "Whats financially" when asked how he would cope.
