I found this quite interesting in the Nintendo Forum, although it's not officially from there, here's the quote of some angry Final Fantasy Fan about the Remakes of classic FF.
Quote:
I have to say, that when I found out that they're changing the dialogue for the soon-to-be-released GBA version of Final Fantasy VI, I had to pick up my jaw off the floor after it fell open in disgust. I mean... changing the dialogue in an RPG? That's huge. The dialogue captures who the characters are and is one of the core elements that sets the mood in an RPG. That's like going back to the original Donkey Kong and changing DK to a hippo or something (at least in my mind). If one of my favorite games were to be re-released over ten years later, I would want it to be unadulterated and as true to the original as it could be. Especially since a whole new generation of gamers will be playing it.
In some cases, I can understand... e.g., Final Fantasy IV. I think it goes without saying that the original U.S. release of that game had the most execrable translation of any game on the planet. Even though the non sequiturs and incoherencies added a sort of admittable charm, the script was so much more polished and smooth in the GBA version. In fact, it was fantastic. But FFVI? C'mon. The SNES U.S. translation was already solid. I just hope the new script does not change the cast's manner of speech and personality too much.
And what's with all these new items? "Lillith's Kiss?" "White Musk?" Whatever happened to good old "Remedy?" Whatever happened to knowing right away what an item's effects will be? Sometimes I find myself opening a chest in these games, getting an item and just being like, "ha-wha?" Maybe I'm just brain dead. I know they were trying to add depth, but I think all these items were just superfluous and took valuable inventory room.
Here's one that applies to newer FF games in general: these wacky spell names. How is an FF newb supposed to know the difference between Curaga and Curaja? (Besides looking at the MP required and potency of the spell... see, I can read your minds, you snarky readers, you.) I would have no problem with going back to the user-friendly numerical system. Anybody will be able to figure out Cure 3 is going to be more powerful than Cure 2.
And the font they are using in these games is one of the ugliest fonts I have ever seen in my life. I know it feels more "fantasy-esque" or whatever, but all the curling letters and the occasional odd serif (like on the upper and lowercase L) make it very unreadable. And it doesn't feel like the letters are spaced out enough. I don't know, there's just something about this font that really bothers me. The original font they used for the SNES was fine. Just personal preference.
Heh... whoa. Sorry for that rambling. At the end of the day, I really do understand why they change the things they do. For example, the adjusted item system really does provide greater challenge. But I just kinda flipped when I heard they've re-translated FFVI.
No worries though. I am still planning on buying the GBA edition (FFVI is one my all-time favorites), but even with all the extra bells and whistles, I will always hold a special place in my heart for the SNES original.
Thanks for reading. I am kind of a nit-picky dude when it comes to FF. So guys, what are your thoughts?

Now I have to say, he is "sorta" right at some parts though. I've played FFIV on the Super & I just started playing the GBA version like 2 days ago lol, and a few things just changed including some story lines, actual words from the person, and their personality is abit quite different and all.... But I like it, I don't mind the remakes/ports being done due to people still buy them because they like it or just because it has "FINAL FANTASY" in the title and so on. Now he's just talking about the Final Fantasy I - VI.
But I want to add in another game, Final Fantasy Tactics(Called "Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War" for the PSP), I know it's just a port with new features/etc and ofcourse get rid of the 4:9 Resolution and all to fix on the PSP Screen, So far as of now, it's "coming this year" but no official date yet will they ruin a few things like they have with I - VI? or will they improve the game completely? Not to say FFT sucks and all, but Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite out of all the FF Titles out there. I am really looking foward to The Lion War even if I have to import it from Japan, it'll be what reborns my PSP(LOL) & Crisis Core ofcourse.
So what do you all think about reading this guys compliment towards the remakes and so on?
The Most MOST MOST FF Title I want to see remade is a title no one even calls out much... laugh if you want...
- Final Fantasy Legends
- Final Fantasy Legends I
- Final Fantasy Legends III
