All three games are based on the same universe. But what about timeline? Do you think the events of these games take place at the same time as each other? Or do you think they take place seperately from a different point of time?
no. The developers may interprent the myth "Fabula nova Crystallis" (The new tale of the crystal) like they want. There won't be any similar places, universes, enemies,...
they already said its the same universe as far as i understood
i think versus was before ffxiii, whatever political conflict that seems to be going on in versus will result in the whole pulse and cocoon story later in the history of that universe, like probably hundreds of years apart

thats just me speculating though
If I would take a guess I would say the same thing
It is not the same universe, they are only using the same MYTH meaning the crystals, had been told over a 1000 times already... they got that myth and made their own story/own universe and own world end of story kkthxbye

This.
The games don't don't relate to each other at all outside the use of crystals. There is no "timeline" that all of the games take place on. They are completely separate entities.

Actually you're wrong. All three games are set in the same universe as each other.
What is the difference between Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII? Each of the games are in seperate worlds and time periods. The only thing relating the games is the Crystal mythology in them.
How did so many people get the idea that they're in the same universe?

Plus probably some random dorkus got quoted by IGN, and the whole "zomg demo on PSN at the end of this year!" sourcing pyramid bullshiz went into motion. Somebody go fix that Wikipedia before more stupid things happen, pretty please? XD
By the way, Wikipedia also claimed that the red haired character was confirmed to be Sazh at some point, lolz. Wiki so reliable.
Yeah believe Wiki, its not like its normal people that presume things and post it on there... noooo don't even think that way! lol you fail at life...
EDIT: and if you look further down on that wiki page, look at references, does it say SE? woops, it said IGN? :O then it must be true!
And on http://na.square-enix.com/e306/titles/fabula/ it says "different titles based on variations of the FINAL FANTASY XIII universe". So they are not in the same universe. Thanks for correcting me.
