Well it seems Square is going to the Game Developers Conference this year and we're getting a speech. Apparently Square is going to start developing "serious" games. At first I didn't know what they meant but according to my friend games which aren't fantasy related like FF (I wondered why they were called that) but more like an action game like Metal Gear Solid are serious.
Wow! That's pretty cool! A big step for Square-Enix though. I love Fantasy games though! I guess it would be cool to have serious games too though. I know Square-Enix can definately pull it off!! They are the GREATEST EVER!!!
They will certainly have the team to pull something that drastic a change off. Lets hope for it early 2008? What am I saying.... its Square-Enix, and I'm english... okay add a year, then a manufacturer delay of 6 months. Plus the time for them to create and market the thing so yeah I'd say around 2012? Possibly around May?
lol

actually I believe serious games are more non-commercial type. Like how some companies make military sims for the military. Some have games for vehicle training as well. That could be what they mean.
That could be, Desi, but serious games could also be games that depict real-life other than Military based. For instance, like Harvest Moon. Harvest Moon is a serious game, that has you plant crops and raise animals. They may be leaning toward something like that. I'm not saying a game where you milk cows, but the general concept of real-life ordeals maybe?
Well I didn't mean only Military. That's why I used the example of vehicle training as well like public transport. Tons of other ways games can be used as a training device.
Then why they have to use the word "game" - it's very confusing. When you are practicing a plain flight you don't say "I'm playing with the plain". If they want to start making simulations then say so!
There is a game out that people play to get ready for the military. I forget what it is called, but it helps them to get ready for war. I think its cool that a video game gets them ready for war! Military personnel actually play the game as a test. This is for real.
Same here! I'm sure just because they are adding some serious games to their list, it doesn't mean they won't be great. I have never played a Square-Enix game that I don't like. I love them all!
If you think about it, Final Fantasy VII was Sci-Fi and Fantasy... I mean if they have vehicles and guns along with digital clocks and reactors then it's close to Sci-Fi I think the only thing that makes it Fantasy is the Magic and the fact that they are riding giant yellow birds while cars are available lol.

What I'd like to know is when the heck they will continue the Chrono series. I'm about 5 hours into Chrono Cross and I'm loving it. Since its so popular, how come they havent made more? really confusing.
