Basically, I just wanted to post about some ideas about what I would like to see in the game....
Battle System - Since it is versus, and there has been talk of replicating advent children fight sequences, this looks like it will be a heavy action game. I believe the best way to do this would be to update XII's gambit system to allow for greater control of other characters. I believe that the best action sequences could be made by making it a true action game, with a battle style similar to Devil May Cry, where a player (i'll use the one shown in the trailer as a example)can chain together combos and use one button for sword / melee attacks and another for magic. Maybe assign spells to the d-pad and cast with Square, like projectiles in DMC. This would also add a strategic element to the game, only allowing for 4 spells to be used by one character for a battle (maybe they could shuffle through spell sets [like gridsystem in X-2, only faster] with R or L buttons). Of course, the system must be tweaked to fit, but i think it would be a really exciting experience, especially since they seem to be turning away from the standard rpg battle format. I think that this would be really exciting for an action rpg, as long as they don't stray too far from the RPG format.
Job System - I believe they should update it for this game, with each character have primary and secondary job classes. The primary one would be how they looked and what weapons they used,(ie. in IX, zidane - theif, freya - lancer/dragoon, steiner - knight, vivi - mage... and so on), making the versus character something of a dark knight. the secondary characteristic would be an add on, something that is more of a support with less of a skill, like adding white mage to a dark knight so he could heal. This healing wouldn't be as powerful in the secondary slot, but still useful enough to be used.
Story - could they make this one dark. while most of the final fantasy's seem to have a dark storyline, none have. XII had the most adult storyline and VII had a dark beginning in Midgard, the whole story should be in a 'doomed world' sort of thing. I think the dark city that's been shown in the trailer works to this, as well as the character supposedly being the last in a line of king's guarding the crystal.
I am also beginning to think that depending which "side" you are on, XIII or Versus, one of the games you play as the bad guy.
Also, I can't see versus having no connection to XIII.. why wouldn't it just be FF XIV?
after finishing Final Fantasy III, i feel two connections with XIII..
1. floating city/coninent...
2. Guardians of crystal - xiii could have each of the protagonists as guardians of the light crystals and darkness crystals. If Lightning is set to destroy the world, (i think that was said in the trailer) the light side could be overwhelming the dark one with versus character a guardian of the dark crystal...
It appears that there is gonna be a ton of info on all 3 games at e3 07...

Battle System- You read wrong, even though this is made by the advent children team they aren't replicating it. FFXIII is going for the advent children fights.
Job system- Characters being forced in a job system is bullshit. It only really happened in 4 and 9 while 7,8, and 10 tried to just stick them with weapons. I rather have full control over the jobs of all characters and not throw them into things like ex. Little bitch girl= healer, muscle man= monk.
Story- FF's before this one had dark stories. Unless this one involves cannibalism, rape, and incest I don't see how it going to get much "darker" other then keeping the game nighttime only.

I luv a dark story but theres got to be some happiness and hope in it not a complete tragedy. a dark plot is more intriguing

As it is, sadness is the strongest emotion to grow from, and happiness the strongest to live from. Usually, there's a necessity for both in order to create a fulfilling plot. After all, considering that the game's an RPG, the plotline mimics the actual ups and downs of life's conflicts, and so consequently the life aspects of sadness as well as happiness need to be incorporated.
Considering that the Kingdom Hearts team will also be working on FFXIII Versus, the combat system will probably be very similar to DMC in that combat is real time combat, not turn based like traditional RPGs. I remember reading somewhere, probably ign.com, that this theory was actually verified. I'm sure there will be unique gimmicks in the battle system as well - for example, Vergil's teleportation or Dante's wall running as a trickster in DMC3.
Here's the explanation behind SE's intention of including Versus as a part of the XIII Addition whole, rather than an FFXIV: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/710/710761p2.html. Check out some articles on ign.com - they've included in a new article that the Versus character's hair and eye color can change hues. Pretty nifty, huh?
I don't really have a problem with a "Job System", as SE usually does a good job regardless if they include one or not.
People in the real world are different and have various kinds of abilities/powers/talents etc. So why can't the characters have them too although boxing them with only one ability is boring.

You could also ask why the entire series is called Final Fantasy - when every game has it's own world and characters they shouldn't be connected...but they are. And Versus is a direct prologue to XIII.

Mainly because they then base a characters whole personality around that so called talent. And if the whole point in a RPG is to change and improve yourself why would they only know how to use a sword by level 99 or the end of the game? Wouldn't they take the time to use different weapons and try out new things?

It's supposed to be connected by crystals.... which can be stretched to include materia and nethicite, IMO. That is one of the reasons im not a big VIII fan, no relation to a crystal whatsoever.

I see modification and learning too, not some kind of middle age beliefs that when you are born as the son of the shoemaker you will be one for the rest of your life. And the job class won't determine the personality, it's the other way around (for me at least).

You misinterpreted my explaining about how I want the Job System. I want one but I do not want my characters forced into a job(FFIV and IX). I also don't want them stuck using one type of weapon during the whole game(FFVII, VIII, X). I would love them to either include a job system(FFI, III, V, XI) or using the character system of XII. Giving Penelo a gun is totally worth the purchase alone even though Balthier is much better with them.
Sorry for that - I took it for granted that this one firm weapon/job system is history for now and SE wont use it anymore or will customize it. I'm against it too for the newer games but I thought you totally hated it.
