Im so mad!! I started to play ffviii in my psxemulator and i got Odin yesterday. I read that in order to have King Tonberry i have to kill 20 tonberrys.
Easy....... ( i thought)
I only killed 1 tonberry now and it took me 15/20min. Its so painfull. I used all my GFs, my powerful magics but tonberry has much hp.
Is there any easy way to kill them? Do they have an elemental weakness? Do i have to continue the story to become stronger and defeat them after?
What is did with the whole Tonberry thing was i kept my strongest character critical and used his Limit break until the Tonberry died. if he was to get knocked out i just used 'life' on him and started over again.
If Squall has Lionheart then it becomes really easy.
If it look 15 minutes it looks like you need to do a bit of training.
There's no easy way, just rape it with limit breaks. I don't remember the Tonberry summon being that amazing, but the abilities it learns is, like the weapon shop ability. Worth getting.
Diablos is good for the regular Tonberries but the King is immune. He has a mass of HP; you'll want Haste + Limit Breaks for all your party to get rid of him and a good spell junctioned to Strength. As a summoun he only does a bit of non-elemental damage but his abilities are great. Luck +50%, Call Shop, Haggle, Sell-High, Move-HP Up, Lv Up and Lv Down.

Rinoa's Angel Wing trick. Works everytime without fail with very little efffort in less than a minute per battle, but it's sort of cheating, so only do it if you're really desperate I suppose.
In her stats junction 100 Ultima's on Magic, 100 Full-life's (or Life's) on Hit points, 100 Meltdowns on Vitality, and 100 Meteor's on Speed. Make sure these are the ONLY magics in her inventory. Give her Auto-Haste and anything else that makes her magic as high as possible. Now just make sure you've got an easy way to make her use Angel Wing at the beggining of each battle.
With this setup, 9 times out of 10 she'll use Meteor for LOADS of damage without ever actually using anything up.
Actually I think you can leave and come back but I'm not sure. I vaguely remember leaving to save/heal but it's been too long since I played to remember that little fact. If there's a save point on the bottom level of the Centra Ruins then don't leave, if there isn't then you probably can. If I had to recommend one or the other, I'd say you can leave and come back.
Oh and you won't necessarily have to kill 20, he can appear after 18 are dead.
If you want to save you can go DOWNSTAIRS and leave the ruins and come back in and it won't have reset itself, but if you go UPSTAIRS you have to start all over again
