Default Mythology in Final Fantasy

I've noticed many references to mythology in the Final Fantasy series, such as in names of weapons, monsters, summons, items, characters, vehicles, etc.

If you know some, post them here and describe what the terms are in mythology.
For example:
Gilgamesh - a Sumerian king who was also the hero in the Epic of Gilgamesh.

I am most familiar with Norse mythology, so I'll list the ones I can think of at the moment.

Odin - Father of the gods in Norse mythology.
(also, in FF Odin usually rides an eight-legged horse. This was Sleipnir, Odin's horse in Norse mythology.

Fenrir - one of the sons of Loki, along with Hel and Jormungand. He was a wolf. From Norse mythology.

Ymir - the giant who existed before everything and who was killed by Odin and his brothers. The world was created from his body parts. From Norse mythology.

Freya - in Norse mythology, Freya was the goddess of fertility and sister of Frey.

Jormungand (I think he's in FF) - One of the children of Loki in Norse mythology. He is was a giant sea serpent .

Midgard (Midgar in FF) - the land of Humans in Norse mythology.

Niflheim (Nibelheim, perhaps) - the land of ice and lowest of the nine worlds. This is where Hel, the underworld, existed.

Nidhogg - the dragon living in Niflheim at the roots of Yggdrasil in Norse mythology.

Ragnarok - the end of the world in Norse Mythology.

There are probably more from Norse mythology, too.
I also want to add that it seems to me that there are more references to Norse mythology than any other. I don't know why this is. Is it more popular in Japan?

What game doesn't have mythology references as in names and story?

I played Vagrant Story and enjoyed FF Tactics. That is why I love FFXII.

Most likely more references of Norse Mythology because they had a god for like, everything. and it really fits in well with most plots of JRPG's.

True, but I chose Final Fantasy because I am most familiar with that series and it helps to shorten the list. We could do this for all games, but then you have things like Valkyrie Profile and Age of Mythology and stuff where it's just too obvious.

...Singstar?

In regards to the OP, I'd say most of the Summons' names are derived from some sort of God, like Shiva and Ifrit (though Ifrit's more of a genie in arabic folklore. It works with the idea of summoning). That's as far as I can go in terms of details unforunately.

Quezacotl was a creator God or summat like that from Aztec/Inca/Icannotremembercaptaina.

Pretty sure there's a website somewhere that covers all this.

couldn't you have linked to FF compendium than? since it has pretty much every reference in the realm of mythology. I would post it but I am still not used to that semi-new site design.
