ok so now days piracy become a major problem, to save money people download music, movies, games etc. from sites like Pirate Bay, Mininova and others, Its a good way to get whatever you want, becasue you dont have to pay for it. I myself download a lot. If I want to get a something, but I know that is not worth of spending money on it then I just use pirate bay. But every time I do that I fell like commiting a crime, I know that in some ways its illegal, but not always I had the money. When If its about games I like to have nice collections, I like to have games in nice original boxes with some extras inside, its look really nice on shelf. But I wouldnt spend 20 pounds on game I just want to try it, and I know I wont even complete it. So whether I can I prefer go cineam to see movie, or whatever instead of using torrent sites. But as always its not possible.
So how about you guys, are you pirates? Are you often use torrent sites, do you care that about it, or are you always pay for original stuff?
I pirate alot of stuff, games being my number one, yeah i prefer to have them on a disc in my collection somewhere but how do i know i am going to like the game?. Same with songs whats the point of buying a whole cd when there may only be two songs you like? I do the same with movies, i know it is illegal, but you know how many movies or games i have bought just turn out to be crap, it's a waste, yes i feel bad sometimes, but overall it has saved me a ton a money and i have discovered new games i like and new genres if i really love the game or movie, then i'll buy it. So yes i am a pirate.
Digital Piracy is a very new concept and businesses don't know how to deal with it.
The argument that piracy is theft is a bit weak when it comes to digital piracy (in opposition to making fake brand clothes or something) mainly because it doesn't involve taking a physical object. Digital information can be copied indefinitely, its not like stealing an apple or an ipod, where someone has made that specific object.
A counter to that could be that people had to put money into making the original song/film/etc. This is a bit of a grey area, with films and games I'd agree and I try not to download them too much for this reason. Music on the other hand is totally different as artists and their labels make most of their money off of live shows and publishing rights for TV shows/films/adverts/etc nowadays.
Back when I was a kid I used to buy the original stuff. But now you can say that i 'pirate' music onto my ipod. When I'm watching anime I download it or watch it online- totally free.
I know its illegal but I don't feel guilty when I'm downloading music or feel like I'm comitting a crime. I guess its because people are so used to piracy these things that I don't see anything wrong with it But it doesn't really matter because the people who create the stuff originally still get paid alot of money for their creations. And people still buy CD's and pay for the stuff either way, I don't think piracy is that big of an issue right now.

Until people will get at least 10k pounds per month or games will cost about 10 pounds piracy won't dissapear.

games are quite cheap, at least here in UK, usually its not more then 20 something pounds for a games, same with movies and music, but I can imagine that in east europe cauntries the cost in much higher, and this actually prevent people from buying the orignal ones. In poland PS3 original game may cost even up to one-fifht of average salary, Hentai you could have say somthing about it, since you leaving in poland currently.
What should i say? A prize for new Xbox360/PS3 game is about 249pln which gives 73euro/60pounds/110$ .Nice huh? Playstation 3-1400pln (about 400euro/300pounds/680$)

Statistic pole earns about 1200-2000 pln[400-700 euro].Great? Nothing more than a beautiful country when rivers are filled with milk and honey...

Bleh true-I tore my hair out when the retail price for mgs4 in Turkey was £90.*die**fail*.
I personally do not download movies games etc from the web.Not due to my conscience but my lazy self cannot be bothered to wait for the download I also prefer original cases which sort of feel like an emblem.
Piracy has become its own sort of industry which is why its 99.9% impossible to diminish it.Piracy claims protecting creativity I.e a directors work basically their film.But its not as if the copier in question in claiming the digital work 'as their own' but in some sense distriuting it in an 'unlicensed way'.Theres also the case that Money generated by piracy is used by gangs of criminals to fund the sale of drugs and guns.Seems a little stereotypical.Its rare to even find a 'good quality'copy of a film for example.People who download illegally will never take onboard industry concerns as they could usually have the idea that the companies are already making a lot of money.People don't see it as a great problem on a social or economic level.
But yeah if someone was distrubuting my games for free I'd be pissed
Piracy is fun. I got my FFVII that way. And then since they are on my laptop, I have them on the go. And if you want old school games you can get them.
I don't think I've ever actually bought an album, before I could do it myself I'd just ask my Dad to get me it and there it was on the PC. My computer's too crap to get games or DVD's

Completely diminishing illegal ,downloads pirate copies etc would take time and money.If people were educated on how software was put into development then maybe the illegal downloads would be minimised.No im not against illegal downloads myself.Like I give a shit about the profit loss of microsoft.
me? yea i am a pirate. I pirate everything like dvds, pc games, music, even console games. I have never bought a CD or a DVD nor a PC game or Software, only DVD-Rs heh. I will go to the Movie Theater if i want to see the movie when it first comes out, but i never buy the dvd.
I sometimes feel bad about it, but it doesn't stop me. I mean i could be doing worse things.... I have been pirating stuff since i was like 12.

I'm going to go ahead and wrap some tags around this so it doesn't pop up on the internet so easily (my paranoia doesn't work well with the rest of my habits)

Yeah... I tend to steal all of my 'intellectual property'. I personally don't care. I mean, if I made some music or a movie, and there are people willing to go to jail just to see it, fine with me. It's not like they're not getting any money.
I have over 2 terabytes of movies and TV shows (movies average to about 700 MB, and a full TV series averages anywhere from 15-24 GB) and about a month's worth of music (according to iTunes) I also have a few games, however I download the least of these because
1. Macs don't have alot of games, let alone ones worth downloading (I'm still waiting for my Alienware), and
2. No one knows how to play burnt PS3 games yet!
now, there are some games I wouldn't pirate, simply because they're just too good to not own a copy. (for example, GTA IV, MGS4, FF13, etc.) But with mediocre games (which I won't name), why not save a little mulah?
I honestly have no problem pirating stuff. Now when it comes to physically stealing things, that's a whole different story. But let's not get into that.
Anyways, I actually got a call from Comcast saying I had transferred (downloaded and uploaded) over 250 GB in less than a month, and got off with a warning saying they would close our account if we did it again. They said I was in something like the top 1/10 of 1% of all Comcast users when it came to how much bandwidth and storage I used. (They also said I was actually effecting other local user's connections, but I couldn't tell if they were just exaggerating to try and scare me off)
Oh and since we're talking about piracy, a new copy of The Dark Knight just came out and it's amazing quality! (it's a screener, but the lettering is small) Check this out if you can!
So... anyone else out there want to tell us how much you've downloaded?
