heh so I'm working on a 3D model (design inspired by FFXIII movies and screenshots, but i went with a more cartoony style) and I figured I'd post my progress here, if that's okay. =]
These were the first concept sketches. She has no name yet so if anyone has any ideas, I'm open.
wow good job lol can't wait tell my animation classes start as for a name i'd say kinda pick one that fits into the world she's from but also in itself stands out lol i have no suggestions for it though

Thanks guys! And yeah I wish [I could work for Square]. I doubt it'll ever be possible though. Can't even speak Japanese (though I'm only a hs senior so I guess I still have time to improve and learn Japanese and whatnot). I'm still looking at another 4 years of college, sooo...
Anyway, here's the next update. Only real update this time is that i added the ears, and fixed some other parts up.
No really huge updates today, just testing cloth reactions for the material I'm going to use for the hood. It's close but I think it may be a little too silky, based on the concept sketches.
Thanks guys. And yes, I'm using Maya 2008. Don't worry about not getting the interface right away. There's a lot to learn and it can be pretty daunting if you're not using books or taking a class or something. I've been toying around with it for a couple years and I'm -just- now starting to get the hang of it. There's a pretty big learning curve, but if you're new to 3D you might want to try 3ds Max (or one of the free apps like Blender or Cheetah3D). They're all great programs like Maya but they're way more user friendly. I believe Maya and 3ds are the the more popular ones right now, though. Lightwave and XSI also tend to get a lot of love. Google will bring up a lot of "this program vs. that program stuff", I think.
And nope it's actually all polygon faces. Everything so far is polygon modeling.
Here's some new updates. I started on the torso. The chest is -definitely- off by a lot but I guess it doesn't matter too much. She'll be wearing clothes anyway. If worse comes to worst I can just make her flat-chested.
Wow this really looks cool! You're really talented, I hope you continue to post your progress here. I'm not an expert on graphics designing or anything but her chest looks fine to me...wait no it is a bit off, its supposed to go more downward and is supposed to come down from the sides not from her neck in the center...well its hard to explain. But its still great, keep it up

Thanks for all the compliments once again. =] Sorry for the slow updates. I've been working steadily, just havent had time to post. I finished the basic model. Now on to the hair and clothes.
