Default R.I.P Official Playstation Magazine

OPM was the first Playstation magazine and one of the few to actually offer demo disks. I must admit I was more interested in the demos than the articles but now thats one of the reasons why its being pulled off the shelves. You can download PS3 demos through the Playstation Network Platform now so, unfortunatly its had one of its best selling points taken away from it.

It obviously won't die. OPM has alot of involvement with 1Up.com so it will live on through there. The last issue will be this January. I'm not sure whats going to happen to the European versions but at least we have quite a few other unofficial magazines to fall back on (with to be honest less biased articles)

That sucks. I enjoyed those demos to. And I did read those articles actually. I may have bought it for the demos but I read the articles to (might as well have, I already spent money on it). Even if OPM was bias, it was still a good magazine. It will be missed, though we still have Gamepro and the internet at least.

That's definitely surprising, as I would have thought that PSM would have stopped its publication long before OPM ever did. OPM seemed to have more content to it, while PSM gave you the facts, plain and simple. Both were good in their own ways, but I preferred OPM for its more content. Granted, PSM is a hell of a lot cheaper.

That is really depressing. it is fun
to play games before you buy them

It's funny tho, since at the end of it's life
span, the demo's seem to really suck.

games like "bionicle" and "eragon"
usually get put in these things (i.e.
my lasest demo)

i was very upset. i have every issue after the august 1999 issue. i didnt find out until i picked it up and saw final issue in small print. i was shocked. i mean, i started collecting them when i was 13. i looked forward to every single one. i rarely played the demo discs, but i read every one cover to cover multiple times. i think ziff davis dropped it bc its more cost effective to have multi platform mags, which pisses me off. but thats business for you...

I prefer PLAY and PSM3. OPM usually has out of date information...

Yeah, this really surprised me. I subscribed to it too. I loved the demo discs every month! I will miss it, but they combined what I had left on that subscription to my EGM subscription, so now my EGM subsrciption is good until like 2010 I think. lol

I got the last issue of OPM when I was at the airport on my way to Thailand a couple months ago. It had a nice demo inside to, and was good read. Made that damned plane ride more bearable.
