I must say I am not very please with Square-Enix, I love their games and all, but I think with the FF series on PS system, they have failed since probably X… reason I’m saying this is mainly cause, before FFX I know a lot of people who use to like FF games a lot… they doing better games on DS then on PS.
These days a lot of people hated FFX, and lets not even talk about X-2…
Cant complain about XI since its online… but XII just got to me. Ok it’s a Final Fantasy game and I liked it, but they making some stupid mistakes and ruining the game in a long run, starting with the story, and then that licence board…
Basically what I’m trying to say, is that 13 has to be a good game… or I think im gona go off FF games in the future. IDK, what do you guys think of the FF series in a general way, are you guys satisfied with the last 3 to 4 games?
I like the PlayStation Final Fantasy games better (exception for FFXII). I say they have more soul than these recent flashy cutscene-dominant ones. My opinion anyway.

I played Vagrant Story and enjoyed FF Tactics. That is why I love FFXII.

I agree with Naunen. I adore VII , VIII, ..(i'm in the middle of VI) and X, they're really unique. X-2 was silly, and XII completely devoided of ff spirit =_=.
I don't know about other Square Enix games

yeah i admit that x-2 and xii are kind going down hill but to say that i would go off ff games is a bit to far for me. well all their games cant be pefect but as far a other games companys go it still rate SE job on ff game quite highly, i mean even though xii wasn't the best i can still wipe the floor with many others games that r out right now.
all in all i think ffxiii and vxiii we turn out to be great games and i wont be turning away from ff games any time soon .
i think fans wouldnt accept a "bad" game this time(compared with others... , XII and X-2) , its both first FF for ps3 , i mean if this both FF result a "bad" game , more than one would be really "angry" with SE.
Matter of opinion. Square-Enix's merger could have had nothing to do with the quality of their recent games, they may have even been worse if they didn't merge. I don't see how you can say most people hate FFX when alot of members here consider it their favourite one. A few people not liking it doesn't mean everyone hates it. I personally didn't like FFXII but out of the millions of sales I assume most people did.
Also ffs please post your threads in the correct forum.

i really liked X.
i had always thought that FFX was from square-enix , but months ago i realised seeing a friend starting the game that it was from squaresoft
Everyone does know that Squaresoft and Enix teams do not touch Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest right? So there is no messing with main projects. Now if you played any other Square game not named Final Fantasy you could bring up a argument about the lower amount of new IP's compared to pass Square with Einhander, Tobal, Bushido Blade, etc.
Though I am more offended that people loved FFX. Causing Square to forgo actual script writing and characters for flashy graphics and "deep" (read: bullshit) storytelling. Wow try something totally different when you can get Kitase and Nojima to put together some 10th grade philosophy paper they call a script with knowledge of only the first chapter. I hope Kitase remembers what made VI so great. A big cast with a great world. FFXI aka Tanoka's baby has done all this. Mitsuda's project FFXII did one and tried the other; it had the rich world but missed some characters persubly your squad though people of the nations friend and foe were full of unique nature; Larsa was a magnificent character more then any side character in X (aka there are more people then Yuna, Tidus, Auron, and Seymour??).
Really the main problem is that people only think FF/DQ and sometimes KH when they think Square-enix. Maybe if people took the time to experience more then "budget breaking fest number CII" SE would put more care in their other works. The rest of the world may have recieved Front Mission 5, they would publish more titles like R.A.D., and we wouldn't have to see the Mana series get crapped on so SE can remind us they "aren't" a one trick pony.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by Squaresoft and Enix teams not touching the Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior/Quest series... I would say something, but it's best to ask what you mean by this or to clarify it more to clear my confusion.
I can agree with the home console games for the recent Final Fantasy has dropped in quality, however I did have my enjoyment from FFX. Personally, I liked it lots, but it's heavily due to the fact that a new element (Voice Acting) and higher quality visual imagery resulted from the advent of the PS2. Squaresoft's forte has been visual graphics and effects in the recent productions since Final Fantasy VII, and it continues to get better. However, I think technological advances pretty much stopped at Final Fantasy X, as that was the last notable jump in terms of adding new elements. The next one is probably Virtual Reality, if that is even a remote possibility of ever becoming... well, real.
As for the merge of Squaresoft and Enix, I was quite disappointed at first, as I was a huge Squaresoft fan and hated Enix (ironically, being part japanese and all I still deviated from the fact that Enix has great games and japanese people prefer the DW/Q series over FF), but according to some reports I read back at the time, the merge was decided between the higher ups and when the underlings found out, some threatened to leave the company from both sides. Which... is understandable, being that they weren't consulted and that they were both rival teams. However, as it stands even with the self-firing or Final Fantasy Father Hironobu Sakaguchi, Squaresoft still suffered heavy losses in terms of financial stability from the Final Fantasy: Spirits Within movie. That said, I think it was a good investment for Square and Enix to become Square-Enix, as the Final Fantasy series can still be produced from a financially stable Enix bank, and Enix can benefit from having merged with a rival company to become even a better company. It's really a give and take, but one that I feel was ultimately a right decision made by both companies (well, Square needed more help in this part of the bargain).
Going back to quality games, I agree that Final Fantasy VI was a very great game, and if not would make one of the top 3 FF for any avid FF player/fan. As already mentioned, the cast was great, and the world and story for it was very well made. Final Fantasy XII, I feel was a bit too much like Star Wars like suggested in the other thread. One of the few reasons that I liked it was because it was rather different and the battle was actually fun, I'm pretty sure most people left it on slow but I kept my battles fast paced and I manually controlled every character in the party. Lotsa work on me, but it's more enjoyable and gives me a sense of accomplishment. Story-wise, it didn't follow the recent trend of love themes, Vaan already had Penelo, Ashe lost her husband, and Balthier, although not the main hero (although he claims that he is many times throughout the game and his role huge suggests that he takes the center stage) which I liked a lot. Although, I can agree with the fact that sub characters such as Larsa played a nice role in the game. And I might dare say, had more substance than Fran and Basche, also even Vaan and Penelo. Yes, I am rather inclined to say Ashe, Balthier and Larsa were the main characters. I hated the villain, and I was rather bored dull that the game ended without much casualties or sacrifices druing the course of the game's story. I still miss the airship, and actually being able to cruise around the world map. They need to add that back, that actually added a feel or sense of the game being played was in an actual world, instead of just bouncing or magically hopping from stage scene to stage scene. As for Final Fantasy XI, well... the fact that you can play and own your own character, and interact with another human being online from the otherside of the world is both amazing and frustrating if not very annoying at times. This, is reality as we have differences between all races and countries in the world, and we are literally only protected from physical violence by the connection and screen that we play the game at the comfort of our own homes/sanctuary. Although they still don't have the option of actually travelling the world via your own airship, it is true that the world of FFXI aka Vana d'iel is vast and offers a rich gaming environment for players. Although lately SE has been very lazy or dumb with the WotG expansion so it's becoming a huge turnoff for the player base, and I find myself logging in every so often to connect with friends I've made within the game. Great game, but maybe it's starting to get old now and we need something fresh.
To wrap things up and cover your last paragraph, I am really looking forward to Last Remenants as it's not a game that is so hugely advertised and hyped with an already famous title series, but looks good. It uses the latest Unreal Engine, and I am curious as to how SE will utilize the game engine to make LR. It's true that unfortunately SE is widely known for Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior/Quest, and sometimes Kingdom Hearts. However, I think most people who have played one of these games have actually glanced at other games developed by SE, yet decides to stay in their own bubble/comfort zone and stick to safe ones. It's pretty much a catch 22, as a capable company such as SE should be able to create blockbuster games outside of their niche, but also they do need to somehow get themselves to more consumer's attention with their (arguably)best productions. Just my 2 gil on things.

Part of the merger concluded that Enix teams won't work on FF games and vice versa. So people blaming Enix for a "drop in FF quality" has nothing to do with Enix working on them.

What? Of course FFX has better graphics than FFXII which had better effects and more things on the design side ex. rotating camera so more maps had to be fleshed out since there was more to see (like ceilings and alleys). FFXIII will look better then X period, X isn't even that good looking anymore. The battle system in FFXI has much more in it then X which followed a handful of simple rules. Tons of equations are into place for something like a weapon skill damage calculation. You play FFXI so you should know the tech advances did not freeze up at FFX. No way in hell.

I got over wanting a airship a month after the game was released. What you still want one for? Raise another chocobo, use good traits and genes this time. WotG seems to be in your words "lazy or dumb" because the CoP team just can't bask in the glory of RotZ team and their ToAU expansion. I wouldn't be surprised if the RotZ team is working with CoP on WotG now too help them out. CoP team has less gameplay mechanic experience. Oh and

Ah, ok good stuff, I thought for a moment that you meant that the companies didn't touch their own games/make their own games which prompted me to think "Then who made them?". Glad we cleared that up, yes I am aware that Square and Enix don't have teams crossing over into the original companies' series projects. It's rather silly that people would blame Enix for Final Fantasy's lack of quality.
Ok... first off... I am chuckling at myself, but I have a very horrid way of trying to condense my thoughts and get them on text sometimes, therefore it sometimes doesn't make sense. That and I have a bad habit of going on a tangent...
That said, FFXII is definitely visually better than FFX is by at least 3 folds, given the time spent by the FFXII Dev team and the better modeling/texturing/etc, they had more to work with and pushed the PS2's capabilities to the max. What I was saying about FFX being the the last technologically advanced game was meant in terms of platform revolution. Again, I couldn't explain that well so I will give an example. The most easily notable revolution was the jump from sprites and 2D of the FFVI game to the use of 3D models and CGI made possible with the playstation console and the game FFVII. By now, you would think originally that FFVII would have been the last revolutionary technological event in console gaming history, but evidently it wasn't. FFX introduced VA acting, and at least with the japanese version the graphic quality was bumped up significantly that details that just wasn't possible to capture with the technology in the playstation era was now possible with the PS2's FFX. It wasn't just voices being heard from the speakers of your TV, it was lip-synching that was done decently well imo. The intricate modeling that allowed animators to create emotions on the faces of the characters was something like no other past games offered. This is important, also relative to rl, because when someone is talking to another person in person (face to face or in close proximity), we pay attention to their face often (unless you have a severe disorder or is very shy and look at the floor while you talk, or you're looking at their bodily physical attributes that attract you). Again, obviously FFXII is better in terms of details and overall graphics, but it's really just an extention of the revolutionary change that FFX brought into the gaming world, and it will be the same with future installments of Final Fantasy games.
With WotG, well I considered the CoP team to be good, however compared to even just updates and time spent on them, WotG is just failing imo. I mean, take the last update for example, they spent a good deal of time from the last update, and what did they come out with this time? A few new abilities/spells, maybe 5 new locations total/max, and a change to campaign that was minor that I know the dev team could have done in a faster time frame. They could have even added maybe a mission or two into the last update. Given it's not even finished yet, I'll wait, but the manner that they spend their time and release some things are just horrid and losing many player's interests. Just go to that one popular linkshell forum blue-something, they've discussed it plenty there. To finish up this topic on FFXI and your last quote on my paragraph, again I apologize for my horrid writing style. I was trying to explain the pros and cons of FFXI. I was trying to explain that luckily, it's still ultimately a game and can't really harm someone irl. That is, only for the most part until today. I'm sure you've heard rumors of people in asian assaulting/killing other people who play the same game they do because of in-game drama. It's ridiculous, but whatever... I am just glad that MMOs or online games can bring together and connect people to a certain extent, but still separates people to give them their own privacy and possibly protection if some crazy person decides to become violent. It's a rare case but there are crazy people out there.

Not to burst your bubble or anything but FFX was never the first game to have voice acting nor facial expressions. Shenmue for instance had both and it wasn't the first (even Soul Calibur does both and has a interactive intro), even the world was too scale as well just like X after it. That would be like saying FFVII was the first 3D game. Not if you are just stating that FFX was the first Final Fantasy then that is understandable but only slightly. FFXII like I said was the first FF to have a controllable camera with ceilings for the maps. No transistion battles is a first for the series as well. This technology you speak of remarkable but you seem to be giving credit to the wrong people a lot of them.

IMO I think SE should start expanding into areas besides turn based RPGs. I rather liked their Fullmetal Alchemist Games (Even though they were freaking hard) and I liked Kingdom Hearts more than Final Fantasy. Sword of Mana for the GBA was my favorite story-driven GBA game of all time (Pokemon being first, of course) Crisis Core wasn't that bad either.
Maybe I'm just being biased because I don't really like turn based RPGs, but I think SE would do pretty well making a few more action games.
Einhander being great, Driving Emotion S being horrid, Bushido Blade being sweet, and Full Metal Alchemist (action RPG) being amazingly bad. Really dude how did you enjoy them? I take it as you are a series fanatic or just a big fan because someone like me only having a fleeting interest in the series wanted to cut myself after playing it.
All just because I wanted to turn metal bars into cannons.
Since you just wanted more than turn-based RPG's from them you already go your wish. The of Mana series, The world ends with you, Crystal Chronicles (especially my life as a king), Threads of Fate, The Bouncer...
