We've heard it all: Microsoft only supports HD DVD, Microsoft wants the two formats to compete until it can step in with digital downloads to "save the day", but now we're hearing that Microsoft may consider supporting Blu-ray? We're sure they would do so begrudgingly, as it would mean their favored format falling flat on its face, but Microsoft says they're open to it.
Group Marketing Manager for the Xbox hardware said that "It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider" in regards to the 360 gathering up some Blu-ray support. They'll still defend HD DVD until its demise, should it occur, but at least they're starting to pay attention to the numbers. Numbers don't lie.
Thats just stupid, why the hell do they need to copy the Ps3.
seem to me the Ps3 had the right idea seeing how many companys want the blu-ray technoligy.
Well they aren't copying the PS3. Blu-ray isn't really a big thing about the PS3. Blu-Ray is a new movie format disc...the Xbox 360 will only be able to use it to play movies so there won't be any competition involved via games.
Its all about money and how popular they can get blu-ray to be. Blu-Ray is popular but DVD is still the standard (NOT HD-DVD everyone hates that) now if Microsoft back Blu-Ray it will
A: Make Sony alot more money.
B: Make Blu-Ray more popular and closer to the standard movie disc format.
Now if Blu-Ray becomes the standard movie disc format that means every movie put to disc will be in Blu-Ray, which is brilliant. Its a good thing for us and everyone.
Well it's gonna happen eventually. Blu-Ray is truly next gen. Everyone knows that, even Microsoft. More power, and more space. Why the hell wouldn't they?
More space, better transfer rate, cooler name (blu-ray/eitchdedevede (full high definition digital versatile disc) WTF!?!?), bigger studio support, BD's only downside is beig a bit pricier, but is still cheaper pr. GB.
Adhddvdead, how much more can we pun that name?
EDIT: Check out this chart. HDDVD only got to pro's to BD. One is just 'meh', the other one is 'region free', but two-thirds of BD's are still region free, so that's not gonna halp it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...hnical_details
Rumour has it Paramount has an 'out' in their contract and may pull out very soon, which leaves Universal for who knows how long supporting HD-DVD. Bill Gates reportedly mentioned absolutely zip about HD-DVD during his CES keynote speech, I think Microsoft are giving up.

Well, first of all Sony would make shitloads of money and it would be even more potential buyers for their Blu Ray movies since so many people own an Xbox 360. It's not adding a drive to play the games they mean, I don't think. More like a Blu-Ray player attachment like the HD DVD attachment. Also please try a bit with your spelling it's not that hard....
well it may make a lot of green for the sony but thats only for a short time. I do think that one day just like the DVD it is produce by a lot of company, so even if for now it give them the advantage later in the future there bound to be a company that produce the Blu-ray disk cheaper.
For example even the panasonic is producing their own Blu-ray burner.
Umm it dont make sony as much money as you would think MS had a hand in creating blu-ray no ones copying sony they dont own blu-ray they just used as their standard

no skin of my nose as im not gonna buy xbox anyway but it is kinda funny coz i remember xbox fanboys saying the blu-ray is shit technology and they might have it
