View Poll Results: If Square-Enix were to remake FFVII, would it be as good as the original?
Yes, they could make it as good as, or even better than, the 1997 version.

No, they couldn't meet the quality of the original.
Do you think a remake of FFVII would be any good? Could S-E live up to the expectations? Could they enhance the gameplay while retaining the greatness of the plot and the adventure?
Personally, I have my doubts, after FFXII, whether S-E are capable of going back to the "old days", when it was just Squaresoft. But they are still one of the most professional companies in the industry and could add a lot to the gameplay at least. I'd like to see a four-man party, a lot of new materia, tough end-game bosses and hidden extras. I'd also love to see certain scenes in up-to-date graphics. Like

It's a good idea for making money. As for the quality, it would probably be about the same (except in terms of graphics) as the original, if not better, but regardless there will always be people for whom it would never be good enough (e.g., Sephiroth's pants aren't tight enough for them, etc., etc.). These people are the thought-siblings of those who say that no musician should cover a song by The Beatles.
I think a FFVII Remake would be a great idea. Recently I have met some Compilations of FFVII fans who have never had the chance of playing the original one, just its sequels, prequels and read the original's story on the wiki. That would be a great chance for these new fans to experience the original story, and a great chance for us veterans to replay the original one, now properly tied up with its prequels/sequels' contents and way better graphics/sound.
The original holds a special place in my heart as my first FF (I used to play RPGs on Genesis only, such as the old Phantasy Stars), but even as a fan I have to admit it has its problems and a remake would be a fair way of addressing those.
All in all, I don't see a remake coming out anytime soon, as the main heads behind the Compilations and the original FF7 itself that still belong to SE are too busy with Fabula Nova Crystallis and other projects, which I don't mind at all
anyhow, I think a remake would be unbearable because I've already seen enough of Aeris to last me a lifetime, thank you very much. XD
Which is kinda ironic, since I would give anything to see more of Cloud.
so now I understand what was meant by the coexistence of Ying and Yang.
Absolutely not. Any more better and the old fanbase will crumble paving a way for those unknowing of the original game to parade through without once knowing the ancient brilliance that firstly gave birth to almost sheer perfection; the birth of a new god. We all know that a lot of us don't like FFVII anymore because of the disgusting over-obsessive fandom (like Sephiroth with a fro or Cloud getting his ass beat by a Mary Sue).

I played Vagrant Story and enjoyed FF Tactics. That is why I love FFXII.

Rofl I swear I read it that way and immediately pictured the image >_>
Meh I could careless about the fanbase. I'm one of the oldschool FF7 fans, I think the game is good but not that much by today's standards. In fact I think I'll enjoy Crisis Core more lol And the fans can say whatever they want, it won't take away my pleasure of playing the game XP

you can still buy the game on ebay, and local flea markets i'm sure that sell used games.
how can you be a fan of a game you've never played ? bullshite, i say
I believe if they did remake FFVII, parts of the game would be equal or better, some worse. Better because of graphics, worse because it wouldn't compare to the orginal game. The feelings we had when we first played FFVII could never be the same with a remake.
Then again, I could be wrong. Maybe if they put a lot into it, it could be just as great as the PSone version. Of course, why would they put a lot into an old game when they could be making a new game instead? I really hope that one day, FFVII gets remade but to an extent that would have SquareEnix focus purely on remaking it the same as the original.
I'd be interested in finding out if they remade it, would they also rewrite the script? I haven't played any of the Nintendo FF remakes, what did they do with them besides update the graphics?
Because really, if the're not changing the script or the characters are they really changing the game enough that it 'wouldn't feel the same' or 'couldn't compare'? Unless someone's concerned that, like seeing a movie after reading a book, their projections onto the simple, stiff polygon figures of emotional displays would be vastly superior to the more highly detailed renderings that would be available for a PS3 remake and said remake would only ruin them (damn bookfilms, ruin my previous imaginings whilst simulataneously destroying my ability to create new ones, will you?). Will the screen actually moving in a cut scene condemn the game to destruction by Meteor? Apart from the risk of poor voice acting and having your own embellishments of the game supplemented by SE's, what exactly do those who voted that it would be worse feel would make it so? That adding a sense of graphical realism to the game would simply highlight any of the more ridiculous aspects of it?
Dear God I'm long-winded. And worse, I poked the bear while I was being long-winded.

They are fans of the Compilations They have played CC, DoC, watched AC and Last Order...
EDIT: Oh yeah, and the prices for FF7 on E-bay are outrageous. If my original copy's box wasn't damaged I would actually sell it there lol
EDIT2: Whip, speaking of FF3 remake besides updating the graphics I heard they tweaked around the jobs for a better balance/system and changed the script a bit (then again, FF3's original script was crap lol)

If it was in Advent Children graphics (cant use AC anymore thanks to assassins creed), then it would be awesome. Some of the environments that seemed bland could be mindblowing in the new one, such as the Coral Desert or inside the Lifestream.

And those already were awesome, would be even better. Northern Crater/Promised Land comes to my mind (the first time I climbed the Great Glacier.. jesus man, biggest boner I have ever had over a game)

Uncomfortable...
Also the combat would be better with AC graphics. I mean, the characters were more detailed for a 30 one-hit ko-athon than they were for the entire walking around outside combat.
