I have made this thread so that people can discuss why the dislike Aerith or like Aerith as I have noticed this topic crops up alot in other threads. I think it would be an ideal opportunity for people to discuss their views on the character and why she was either a waste/asset to the game.

I loved using Aeris to level my materia. Most her later staves have growth times 2 or 3. Great since I am a grinder and she just helps get the hp plus' up to par.
I'm forced to hate her I suppose, she was always one of my favourite characters and FFVII lacked a lot of good female characters.
I suppose it's the case of, I don't want a powerful and amazing character in my team - I want a character that I like and enjoy playing with. Tifa ain't got shit on Aeris yo~ Yuffie can gtfo.
How did FFVII lack alot of good female characters when there were 3 strong female characters all playing their own significant part, at least they had a part in the story unlike some other FF's where they just stood around. Hopefull XIII will have more female characters than male, as I find it really hard to think of there being just 2 female characters.
Tifa was an astounding character, even though she lacked the realism slightly she seemed believable and was very well developed throughout the game, her attacks were cool and she was a very unique character.
Aerith was certainly very unique. Many people associate how they feel about FFVII with her death. Do you agree that if she had survived the game that it would have been good? I think she served her purpose throughout her duration of the game, unlike some characters who just wander around the game with you yet have no purpose. I think people assume she is a wasted character because her back story was unknown except for her ancestry of being a god or something, I havent played it in a while so I cant remember the name, plus am drunk writing this haha. Go student union, anyways, she served her purpose and that was good enough for me, plus, as I stated about people associating the games greatness with her death, I do that myself. I believe had she of survived the game would not be the icon it is today.
Aerith is truly a solid character and one that is not just wishy washy. Her approach is natural and calm and makes me feel comfortable when I use her in my party. I think it was genius to have her as the only person who is able to use cure, as it forces you to have her in your party, because square knew she was going to die and they wanted us to use her abilities to help level materia as much as possible. This approach was obviously followed by some Final Fantasy Fans, such as Desi and myself.

>I loved Aerith actually her healing skills were something else, she was the best at magic ..bad thing when she died she had all my magic but that's not to the case, for me the fact her past wasnt know all that much it's what makes her a deep character and unique like Pulse said.
Her personality was beautiful, she got a wonderful nature in my opinion her kindness and all is what made her the icon she is for her fans, and yes we suffered with her death it was sad actually but needed for t he game to continue, it would have been a whole lot different if she had lived maybe the game would have been something else but yet again she's not that dead she is still there between all the FF7 characters and they know it, at least the ones who can feel her spirit.
Her nature is what actually attaches her to them because if she didnt care she would do like all dead people uh..go rest and peace but nope she is there, which I find really amazing.
I love Aerith so much I'm not letting her die. XD Level 97, first disk, Great Gospel, right before I go to the Temple too. I'm such an idiot. No progress in the game just because... but I have beaten the game many times over. Aerith was amazingly daring in the game because she was totally aware of the love triangle. I mean, how many gals dare to go after a man whom she knows she'll end up in the love triangle of? I'd say she was fierce in a way. Gotta love that.

I think Aerith needed to pick a man either Cloud or Zack okay I understand that Zack died but stepping into Clouds life when she KNEW Tifa wanted Cloud that just aint right I wouldnt want that done to me and now that Cloud fell in love with her, Tifa can never fully have Clouds heart how does Tifa know if hes thinking of her or of Aerith I just think Aerith left a big mess in Cloud's and Tifa's livesand it clould all of been avoided if Aerith just PICKED A FRICKIN MAN!

----It's not a mess. If nobody knew her, would the world have been saved? I'd say they were lucky to know her. Taking into account that Aerith was the last Ancient, their own butts were saved several times because of her. She always did have a lotta healing magick and people have known that in the movie she used Great Gospel to save the children and Cloud as well as bestow some kinda invincibility to him before he got shot by Yazoo. Every kid in that movie called her Big Sister. Even Tifa didn't mind because Aerith strengthened Cloud. In Final Fantasy VII, Tifa had always been interested in Cloud but I don't remember there being a total conscious effort of her trying to claim him. She could get jealous or mad because of how Cloud seemingly got "wiled." It's hard knowing what she thinks since she's not the character we controlled.

I thought she was a genuinely compassionate character and someone I actually thought shouldn't have died. It was actually very sad and defined the game's tone very well.

D= Rinoa what? Rinoa was a flirt..and wa obnoxious some times (have to admint I still like her..)...it was so obvious she wanted to....eh you know...I hope you're not comparing her with Aerith..Rinoa is a teenager and Aerith is not >P
Either way...Aerith...was a beautiful person..a really beautiful person from the inside...

I second Kira's opinion. Although I've never played FFVII and cannot evaluate Aerith battle-wise, I don't think that "using the best magic" makes sense as a factor of personality. In other words, it doesnt make sense to approve of her just because she's useful in your party member, because Square could've just easily given that ability to Yuffie, or Tifa. (*Note that I dont like Tifa nor Yuffie)
My dislike towards Aerith peaked in Advent Children. Somehow it was due to her "godliness" that Kadaj gave up in the end, and when Cloud's scabs got healed by the rain that came after her prayers.
To me, and like I've said in the other subforum under "Worst FF IMO", I dont think conjuring the Holy charm was a big deal. Regarding it battle-wise, the characters in FFX could all achieve that ability. So what was Aerith's part? Nothing special.
She also annoyed me on Cloud's behalf, and her voice really paralyzed me cuz it creeps me out. (Sakamoto Maaya)

Yes, but she gets materia growth times 3 well before anyone else. Only other person with a double growth during the early hours in the game was Red XIII (materia wasn't linked either).

I've also come to that conclusion. I find it highly annoying when I make a thread with a purpose and a solution to the problem that most of you are continuing in this thread.
From now on when you reply to this thread, say whether you dislike aerith or like aerith, then state a reason. If no reason is stated or you have nothing useful to say, I will mod out and delete your post.
