NOT WHAT WOULD 100% BE IN XIII, BUT WHAT WE WOULD WANT.
First off, I want a metal soundtrack. Call me an internet nerd, I don't give a shit. I want a metal soundtrack. I can see power metal like Rhapsody or Kamelot being boss or character themes, with some being city themes. Melodic Death sometimes incorporates piano, which could be used for tragedy, which is what I expect in XIII--the game appears to be duing a war, which war story isn't filled with some tragedy?
A shooting mini-game. I originally developed this idea after seeing XII's opening, with the whole war and all. You do see a plane of sorts in XIII, if there was any hint of battleships, I demand that there be at least one minigame where, imagine, you're in something like Ace Combat; you have to shoot down the enemy. Make it mandatory, hell.
Villain and Heroine romance. Romeo and Juliet style, nix on the ending. Let's say Lightning (heard she might not be the main character, that'd suck!) was a high-ranking member in a resistance group against an evil organization (in my mind, this sounds JUST LIKE the plot for VII...I have to get more original) and lo and behold, she strikes against them. Another high-ranking member of the organization sees Lightning and falls in love with her...anyone see what's to come? A highly amusing plot, that's what. He has to destroy her on command, yet his heart won't let him, therefore his decisions are impacted. What would make this even more amusing if Lightning had a boyfriend or whatever and the villain killed him. That's a major boss ending right there.
Military Level-Ups lead to more vehicles and arms. You see Lightning have stripes on her arm, just as Army officers do. And the more stripes you have in real life, the more respected you are, the more stuff you can get into. Let's say you do enough 'missions' to get to...5 stripes, an example. You can now access a hover car and a host of different weapons, as well as opening a new section to the plot, be it a sidequest or a mandated storyline. Of course you can level up as normal, but the MLU's will let you really enhance on that.
I can't think of much else right now, edit it in later. I'm thinking about what summons would be like, if any, and if there should be more than 3 party members.
Since this is the first Final Fantasy to hit the PS3, and the trend so far has been 'first FF on console = hit', I assume and pray that this will do as well...PS3 hasn't looked so great since the first Blu-Ray players can't play commercial BR Discs, price tag...
1. The shooting mini-game is a good idea, in my opinion. It would be something nice to add in and play with, but it wouldn't be a mandatory thing.
2. Military Level Ups - This sounds really cool if it is played out correctly! I would like to see if this really happens it would be nice if it in fact did!
The things I don't like so much...
1. Metal Soundtrack - I do not want a metal soundtrack, I think it would ruin the FF feel to the game although it seems that SE is implementing a lot of changes to the newer FF's so who knows what would happen!
2. I am not against a Villain/Hero romance persay, but I don't think it should be done Romeo/Juliet style. That might get too weird. I think this would be better in my eyes and make for a cooler story...
I think that Lightning will fall in love with the Bad Guy, and then she will convert over to the bad side. You will then be playing there for only a short while and the bad guy betrays Lightning and threatens one of Lightning's loved ones and that is when she realizes the error of her ways and she goes good again and... I haven't thought farther than this! XD
Romance- Do you really believe we need anymore romance in our RPG's?
Military level ups- Reminds me of the rank system in FFXI. Totally optional but you get access to some pretty good items and such from it.
Metal Soundtrack- No. I like all types of music but I wouldn't want a whole soundtrack of metal for any RPG game no matter where it is set.
Shooting Mini-game- Wasn't there one in FFX-2? I'm to lazy to put that sad product of a game in my PS2 at the moment so I'll just say no. RPG's and minigames don't really tickle my fancy; even though all RPG's at least have two for some godforsaken reason.
Romance again- The villian and the heroine love relationship, just sounds very weak and tacky. Kind of like, "good girl likes naughty boy" tacky. I find RPG's with romance on the back burner seem to be way more entertaining then one with a story that involves it.
But what nemesis should/could it be? An idealist (wants to change the world with massmurders), someone that wants power, a psyco that only want to kill or some sort of huge monster? Any other?
Let the villian be someone that wants religious freedom or equality! At least that's how all my bad guys are. To be evil it isn't what they want that has to be wrong, it's the way they go about it. Just makes them more evil.
I would love to see brothers or sisters in the main party. I don't remember that happening. Or better - twins - one is good and the other one evil and they have to battle!

Twins FFIV Palom and Porom, black mage and white mage(worked together to do a type of flare and meteor magic). They turn themselves to stone to save you from a room closing itself on your party. But they were on your side not enemies.
It's ok with some twins that jokes around and maby fight as one too!
But please save me from some big brother little brother crap where little brothere wants to be like big brother and all he gets is a clap on his head and big bro says "when you are at the same age as me"
Spoiler:
Please dont take two hot girl twins, it will distract my gameplay

That made me laugh out loud. I don't necessarily like the idea of twins being on the good and the bad side, I think that they should be on one or the other. I also think that maybe the definitive line of good or evil could be erased in FFXIII. Instead of it being a good side and a bad side then it could be a two separate groups fighting for their own sides.
Yuna and Rikku don't count!
I don't know anything about the early FF's before VII, but it seams like most(not all) of FF's characters are the only child/manufacted and in one way or another orphans. I would like to see some closer family, not ouncles and cousins this time.
http://www.ffcompendium.com/h/ and http://www.ffcompendium.com/h/ are both pretty good(especially the first) if you want to look up info about the old FF's. There is a lot of family connections in the older ones that the newer games seem to neglect.
Wow now that I think of it there are tons of relations!! I mean brothers/sisters/fathers/etc are in helluva lot.
