So they are aiming for a world wide release date. cool but will they pull it off or will us guys and girls in europe be left twiddiling our thumbs while the rest of you are playing away and telling us how cool it is
Europe will always come last just because of all the work required to translate the game into french, german, spanish, italian etc, so I'm not getting my hopes up for a UK/Europe release at the same time as Japan and the US.
It will probably get a Euro release about 4-6 months after the US release, just like most of Square's other games.
And yeah, I know PS3 is region free so I could just import the American version, but it would be nice if Square actually treated every territory with the same regard and respect (europe always coming off as the poor relation).

Ah, that is true, but the Euro verisons ussually get a bit something extra, so in a way you get the final verison of the game. I guess it is a somewhat unfair trade off to have to wait 6 months, but often I know people in NA get a bit jealous of all the new features the EU verisons get.
Final Fantasy XII is getting the Zodiac Job system
Final Fantasy X got several new powerful summons.
I think if I lived in Europe, I would definately import the NA verisons of Final Fantasy, and possibly get the EU verison later if the extras seemed worth it. Personaly, I would love the option to change the voice acting to Japanese, English, and other languages at any point. I think with Blu Ray they definately could include that.
I think Square is really going to try and get their new game "The Last Remnant" to all regions with very close release dates. However I think with Final Fantasy XIII, it will simply be to much of a rush to get it a world wide release, I think there is a slight chance it might get a NA/Japanese release though.
Or maybe they'll do a 180 and give the Europeans the release first then the rest. This happened with Final Fantasy X, they brought it out here to the States a week earlier than Japan.
I would love a world-wide release for this game it is possible they said that they are doing the translation at the same time that they are developing it didn't they, if not correct me but i could swear i heared that somewhere well there is always hope and remember hope floats it can never drown well unless square says that they are definately NOT going to do a world-wide release then hope sinks like a rock lol
The biggest reason MGS4 was easier to do, IMO, is because they didn't have to re-record all voices into x-different languages. That was probably by far the biggest task in MGS4 overall. FF13 shouldn't be much different, although I'd say they'll do multiple dubs (Didn't they do one in every major European language for X and X-2? I'm not sure, but I could have sworn I've heard the dubs in Spanish and German at least.) If they do a full-scale WW release it'll be delayed, at the very least, because of this. Although I wouldn't mind much - I'm used to the waiting by now.

I'd rather wait and let them get the lip-syncing right.
Nothing worse than emotionally heavy cut-scenes that look like English-dubbed Godzilla movies.
GOD YES. There were SO many titles for the PS2 that failed miserably in this aspect and looked atrocious due to it (Metal Gear Solid 3 comes to mind almost immediately). That's another big part that's strongly related to voice-acting, and they should always go hand-in-hand in developing and in localizing. No point in even releasing something if you're gonna do it sloppily.

1UP: For the upcoming 360/PS3 role-playing game The Last Remnant, Square Enix began the localization process much earlier in development than with past Final Fantasy titles; that game will see a simultaneous worldwide release. We know that Final Fantasy XIII will still debut in Japan first, but will the traditional nine-to-12-month gap between releases be reduced?
SH: Yes, a simultaneous release would be difficult for Final Fantasy XIII, but we're definitely trying to decrease the gap between the Japanese launch and when we release it to the rest of the world.
I got this from the Home Page of this site and it was posted on the 17th this month, so apparently it's a slight chance of a WW Release. :/
