They should have ripped off Puella Magi Madoka Magica's ending bit. It's clever genius.
Don't - I don't want Serah turning into a l'Cie and afterwards a Goddess.
Also, I want to know ALL the story. There should be a reason to kill everyone.
But man, cycles again? How many games did finish with a cycle? >_>
I don't have the ability to close this thread Leaf, but I'd like to point out one more thing.
Don't you guys think it was odd that before the final boss Lightning showed up encouraging them to fight and leading them to the last battle arena despite knowing killing Caius would screw shit up?

Yep, kinda bugs me too. My wildest guess is that she was trying to trick them into destroying the heart by making them believe they're actually doing the right thing. But it's waaay too soon to assume things like that.
About Lightning turning into stone - isn't it possible that by acting as the "Warrior of the Goddess" she was simply being her L'cie and turned to crystal by fulfilling a certain Focus at the end? Or is it out of our consideration already? I mean, she could still summon Odin, use magic and all that stuffz (I know being a part-timer for gods basically means cheating, but still). 'Cause well, her turning into a goddess is kinda a brave theory.
Also, you guys are so right. Noel y u no shirtless dlc

Was watching teak to the point where Caius trolls you moments ago. Some said the monologue was slightly different from what leta got and there's this other thing: just before the screen turned black Caius' left eye flashed red.

Why would she trick them though? ;; Maybe that Lightning was fake? Also, she can't be a l'Cie anymore, they already confirmed that she's more than that. She's also definitely not crystallized and she looked more like she was petrified.
Her becoming a goddess herself is.. I don't know. I just don't get why she's sitting on Etro's throne like that.

She wasn't a warrior of Goddess Etro, but she was Warrior Goddess.
Yep, Light is somehow a goddess.
"What are the main story themes you wanted to address in FFXIII-2?
At the end of Final Fantasy XIII, the world was almost completely destroyed. In Final Fantasy XIII-2 we wanted to offer the player an experience of following the way the world is rebuilt over a long span of time. That’s why we decided to use “Wish for Rebirth” as the theme for the Final Fantasy XIII-2 story. The theme has two meanings: one is rebirth of the devastated world and the other is the re-encounter with Lightning, who has gone missing.
The past year has seen many disasters - not only in Japan but also across the world. We sincerely hope that the story of Final Fantasy XIII-2 will bring hope and courage to many people’s hearts. "
Toriyama has this to say about XIII-2 in a recent interview.

My response... "Thanks for instilling a morbid kind of hope to the games fans. Or were you high during the production?"
I get why you feel bitter about this (Heck, I do too), but look, they have already stated before that the story will continue outside the game itself, (obviously, since we got that TBC phrase at the end).. I think he's talking about the story as a whole, and I do trust them that they will give that desired happy ending that we all want... in the form of DLC (which I honestly think is not that bad anymore-- I'd totally get it). It's not like they just ended the game abruptly after that unresolved ending, they wouldn't put that TBC phrase for no reason.

“Wish for Rebirth”? As far as I have seen, the whole point of the story is more like "No matter how hard you try, there are things you just won't change". It kinda goes more towards realism rather than hope or faith. Maybe those interviews are there to make the players sure that the game's gonna be all sugar & rainbows, thus making the ending even more shocking? But then again, what. is. their. point.
EDIT:

Yeah, but that's a really shocking change of approach. So far they've been delivering games that were able to stand for themselves in terms of their general meaning. Now XIII's becoming something like an anime series. Not that I mind, I'd totally get the DLC, but still, all of this is a bit unexpected.

Foreveroblivion: the players are desperatedly trying to change the characters' fate and Toriyama is probably somewhere rolling on the floor laughing...<.<
I just find it kind of pointless to use TBC and then put TBC in DLC. Why not just have it achievable in game? Sure I dont mind spending a few bucks for some DLC, but it should be optional. At this point it seems like DLC would be mandatory to buy if you want to see a happy ending.
I don't know... I really don't know anymore. ~_~ Either way, I'm happy with how the game turned out in a lot of the aspects. Just the endings kind of drive me nuts. Perhaps I'll be able to enjoy it more in English where I can understand everything to its fullest.

Yeah. *sigh* To be honest I did think back then that if they ever release story scenario DLCs it would be not that relevant to the story and yeah, optional. But now this.. since I want to know why shit happened so badly I'm willing to buy their story expansion DLCs.

So with that said I'm on the fence.

And like Saiyora said, the ending should be attainable in game, especially since there are 8...I mean really.
I didn't like what they did with the paradox endings. I'll only try to achieve them just because I want to platinum the whole game.

I actually kind of appreciate the canon ending, though I believe it should have been expanded on rather than left "To be continued."
Bleak, tragic, even nihilist endings are not new, and I for one think it's a welcome departure from, say, X-2's "Perfect Ending" (see: needless retcon), but that's not the same as an incomplete ending.
If you are that attached to XIII's world, by all means purchase the DLC and send them a signal that you support their latest business strategy. The spin-off craze was spawned by X-2's success in the first place, so be aware that your spending habits are actually directly influencing the content that is coming out of Square-Enix.
If a real ending for FFXIII-2 appears in the future, well that's what youtube and live streams are for.
Idk if the links should be posted here or not, so whoever knows where to post it do so.
That is if it needs its own thread.
