Default Same Universe....

If the FFXIII compilation takes place in the same universe..... Doesn't that mean that its in the exact same universe as the other FFs?

I think "the same universe" is an analogy they used to say they aren't in the same worlds. I think the developers start in a new universe with each numbered title.

You missed my point. All the FF games are in the same universe. But since FF13 compilation is in the same universe, that means that theyre all in the same universe as FF1-12. Know what I mean?

Nobody has ever claimed that all the FF games exist in the same universe, unless you have a quote or something that can verify that.

Every game in the numbered series starts with a clean slate and a new setting - essentially it's own universe. The only links with past titles being thematic similarities or the inclusion of series mascots like chocobos, moogles, summons, a Cid character etc.

Yeah, every FF is in a different world. I thought that was obvious...

yeh every FF is in a different universe. Otherwise the lifestream from VII would be in every other FF. The rules/laws of the each FF chance because the universes are different.

FFXIII compilation is in the same universe meaning the laws and the use of crystals are all the same, their stories will not be connected in anyway but the laws of the gameplay we see in FFXIII will be the same as the ones in VXIII.

Its pretty simple.

Not to count the fact that several of the FF's are on a planet called Earth or Gaia. But the universe is a big place (bigger then a galaxy) so why not. Not as if they bump into eachother much.

I thought you were talking Universe like how creators clump their projects together so they can use similar things.

I wonder if they will ever try and make all of the new and upcoming FF games connect in small ways, not in terms of huge plot details, but little things, like after FFVXIII in the next one, FFXIV, you c\hear stories about the Hero from it......That would be cool...

I think you guys are missing what he means. By 'Same Universe' he doesn't mean the same 'world'. He's wondering if the developers mean 'Universe' in the literal sense, meaning that there is only one Universe, and trillions of worlds/planets within that Universe. So if that's the case, then all of the FF games, and every game for that matter, all exist within the same Universe, but on different planets or era's of time or on a fictional Earth.

So basically, does the Compilation all exist on the same planet/world, or are they on seperate worlds? Possibly the devs mean that they all share a common theme (crystals) when they say that the Compilation is in the same Universe.

Good point. I hate games with those cheesy endings where you beat the game and load your file and its like nothing happened.

Each Final Fantasy game was planned to be completely different from the last. I think if you wanted to get an offical answer Square would tell you all the Final Fantasy games take place in there own universe. This is done purposly to keep every game new and encourge the developers to always move forward with the series.

However with that said, Kazushige Nojima,(the scenario writer for Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, and Final Fantasy XIII), has stated that to him, some of the Final Fantasy games he has worked on are connected through a single universe, but are seperated by 1000's of years and take place on different planets. This is why there is a character named Shinra in X-2, who is hinted to be the ancester of the founder of the Shinra power company in Final Fantasy VII.

You have to keep in mind this is Nojima alone that is saying this, so to him, they are, but that does not mean they offically are, or if they are to other people that work on the games.

Some people believe that there is evidenace that all of them are in a connected universe. Some base this off Final Fantasy IX, and believe "Chaos" from Final Fantasy I continuous reapears in different forms, and that Garlands speach hints at the other worlds.

Other people might point to Final Fantasy Tatics featuring Cloud as a hidden character, but this seems to be proven to be simply a bonus not related to the story, based off the information we have about the remake, Lions War.

Those are all unconfirmed connections however, the only games the series that are directly related to others are:
* The Compliation of Final Fantasy VII - Which includes includes 4 games, a movie, and an ova.
* The Ivalice Alliance - Which includes 4 games, and possibly Vagrant Story.
* Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII - Which includes 3 games.

As far as the Fabula Nova Crystallis games, it has been stated, that they are not directly effected by one another, but build off the same mythos and tell storys from different perpectives. I believe it was also said in some interview that they compare this to a starwars style epic that spans out and connectes them all together.

Why does the universe even matter. For all you know FF could be in our universe based off secret galaxies that sony/square discovered.

Yes I have, and I still don't see why it would matter if they are in the same universe or not. A universe is the biggest thing we know to exist. So they could be, could not be, doesn't matter either way really.

It seems like when you guys interpret that that the world of Final Fantasies are togeter like a solar system or put it in a Kingdom Hearts way where all the worlds are around each other.

In my opinion, I just look at each game as if they're all on the same planet, just a different geographics and names. There isn't a universe of Final Fantasy worlds, take FFVIII for example.

[SPOILER]
You have to venture out onto space at some point. There's no indication of any life on any planet so there isn't a Ivalice planet or a Gaia planet.

I could be wrong, but this is just my observation.
