So yeah, I made this topic so we could talk more about the bad guys. I wonder why is the rest of the world so far behind Storm's city? Are the crystals really the only power source? And just what makes them what the crysrtal so much?
Not really. You seem to be trying to get too much out of this speculation.
The crystal is the end all be all power. It could make a third world country into a first world one. Everyone wants one but not everyone is going to get it. Versus wipes out a whole army by himself, it sure isn't all his skill and bloodline. The crystal powers him to some extreme extend. There probably be a part in the game where you don't have the crystal under your control anymore. You'll be like Raiden naked. That useless.

they have many other purposes for the crystal...but one specific one would be for their military power
If the game is trying to show the feeling of "depression" I don't think military is going to be the focus of it. Probably show how in panic and uproar the cities living in shitholes without the crystal. while having the main character look greedy because he hordes the wealth of it only for his nation.

Yes that may be true, but even if the other nations aren't as advanced I don't think that should mean that they don't have some sense of order. I think it goes even deeper, but we don't have any info on these guys other than they want the crystal. Perhaps if we knew a bit more about the nature of the crystal.
Yeah that is true. They would also have a form of Jealously that most nations have to the top leader. But I would love to experience the Ghettos of the countries opposing our lead.
I think he means we wants to see how the otherside is living, mainly how the civilians are doing in the poor undeloped countries. Desi makes a good point bringing this up, if versus is to focus on darker themes then the ghettos of the world in which the story is set would be an ideal place to start out in the story. See how the people are doing. Poverty, may be behind all the violence in the first place.
