A scan from Japanese magazine Shonen Jump confirms yesterday's rumor saying that a Final Fantasy IV remake is coming to the Nintendo DS. From the scan it looks like the game will have 3D graphics and several new dungeons, as the rumor suggested.
Yeah I was reading about that yesterday. Awkwardly enough I was about to kill Zeromus. Too bad I hate King Arthur and his squad so I doubt I will be picking it up again.
I wonder if they'll eventually do the same for FF5 and 6 on the DS.
Squares desperate for cash, amirite?
I doubt, they make more then enough from FFXI. They are a big company though and they love their remakes. At least it is a graphic update, I rather have it on a next-gen or current-gen system though but oh well. It isn't that long anyway.
After finishing Final Fantasy IV for Super Nintendo in English and Japanese, PlayStation One & Gameboy Advance. I won't bother with this, just because it's a little graphic improved won't convince me it's a must-buy for me.
How can you be so sure FFXI is their main cash cow Desi? It brings in a lot of money, but do you have an article saying SE supports itself on it?
Its cash, its money and they can do it. It don't affect their fanbase and SE rarely makes horrible games.
But if I ever am going to buy a DS I would get Pokèmon then FFIV

They have around 500,000 players. With at the very least one character(i have several so that costs extra) at 12.00 a month. They pull in 6,000,000 a month from FFXI and that doesn't include people like me with more characters( one dollar extra).
I'm using US currency but it changes from region to region.
This doesn't include the price of buying the game itself around 20-30 US dollars.
Square aren't desperate for cash, they're just greedy. They saw the unexpectedly large success of FF3 on the DS and thought to cash in by releasing an updated FF4. And yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if FF5 and FF6 follow soon after - they're probably in development right now.
I own a DS but I've already played FF4 on PS1 and GBA so I doubt I'll bother playing it through again on a third format. As far as the DS goes I'm more interested in Square's new games like Dragon Quest 9 and Revenant Wings.
I guess they're using the revenue from relatively cheap games to develop like this to fund the larger projects on PS3 and 360.

NOOOOOOO I demand Yoshitaka Amano with his paint style for the whole game. Like Okami or something, I don't want it tainted by just looking normal. It has to be beautiful.
Anyway Comparison pics:
Why he wear his armor to bed? Must be uncomfortable.
Oh and this is too true.
Crap like that happens a lot.

Couldn't agree more! I'd love to see an FF game where the in-game characters actually look like the original Amano illustrations. I want to see those wispy, willowy characters moving around in 3D world that looks like a painting brought to life. Surely they could do that on PS3 or 360?

Yeah! So true....
I loved FF4 but they really did overdo it with the whole 'heroic sacrifice' thing. Never before have I played a game where the characters are so eager to kill themselves for the greater good!
That's a pretty cool trailer, although I would have preferred it if they had actually shown some proper gameplay footage. Still, those FMV's look a lot better than the ones they used in the PS1 version.
That shouldn't be a surprise given the low budget of the PS1 version. V and VI were re-released like two years before and had better FMV's. These are comparable to the FFIII remake FMV's since it's going to be a total remake.
I just hope that this release doesn't change the canon of the original.
They're supposed to be adding a lot of stuff that wasn't included in the original SNES version because of memory restrictions, so we should hopefully get a more in-depth storyline that fleshes out the characters a lot more and expands on certain events in the game. So I wouldn't worry too much about them changing the canon.
From wikipedia:
Quote:
According to executive producer Takashi Tokita (scenario writer of the original release), 3/4 of the original script had been cut from Super Famicom original release, but this lost material will be reworked into the remake, while some new events will also be added. The player will have the possibility to use the Nintendo DS stylus to move around similarly to the Final Fantasy III remake, while some minigames will require this usage of the stylus. Additionally, the developers are currently working on a feature which should add replayability to the game, although it will not necessarily be a New Game Plus feature.
In June 2007, Square Enix will hold a casting for a vocalist to sing a version of Final Fantasy IV's "Theme of Love" rearranged by Nobuo Uematsu.
Hopefully the DS version will be longer and engaging than the original version because it doesn't take that long to beat this game. And I don't mind if the story has extra things in it as long as it doesn't change that much. And some of the fillers should be filled in as well.
I like the storyline as it is, but I don't have any problems with them adding more depth and detail to it. Hopefully the DS version will be the definitive version of the game and if there's enough extra stuff I may well be tempted to buy it - if it was just a straight port of the game then I wouldn't bother as I've finished it on PS1 and GBA already.
I hope they add a lot more extra/optional dungeons, bosses, side-quests etc - I want the actual gameplay to be as improved and enhanced as the storyline.
