Huge news today in Japan as Square Enix announced it reformed business model, and a significant rise in the likelihood of a Final Fantasy VII remake.
Late Wednesday night, on their Japanese web site, Square Enix announced that it will be working under a new business model, focused more on re-releasing existing titles and creating sequels to older games.
This change is no doubt due to the overwhelming success of its latest projects, which have all be remakes of Final Fantasy games for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance platforms. These remakes have done surprisingly well and have prompted Square Enix to look into the remade games further and for other systems as well. As a result, the company has decided that remakes and sequels will do well enough to keep the company in the green for quite some time.
This news will no doubt start an uproar in Final Fantasy VII remake rumors that have slowly lost their credibility since E3 of 2005. But even more exciting news to some is the possibility of other Square Enix franchises being dug up from the grave and re-released on next gen platforms.
Great, its a bit cheap from SE, but if people wants it its all cool. They should not take so long either to create since the scenario/design is already done.

And it f***ing hurts
Well, if Square Enix have hinted towards it, then if they lie, we can just march on their HQ, steal their desgining computers, and make every game again ourselves. I dont mind missing every GCSE exam to do it.
They might want to extend the game abit though. Even though its over 3 discs, if you just go from one story part to another, with hardly any random battles along the way, it would only take about a day or so. (Thats what the clock on my file says).
Im still thinking whether it would be a good idea or not to add the whole AC story to the end, either as manditory or as a bonus scene. But when you think about, they could've finished the game without AC, and you wouldn't notice the difference.
Well since they just released FF6's remake for the GBA I doubt they will create yet another remake for this game in the coming years. Perhaps for the PlayStation IV ;-)

Its inevitable that they will remake VII. It would draw so much money in for them and they know it. Their just trying to keep the hype up for it to get the other FF's to sell first.
As long as they don't remake Vagrant Story I'm fine.
edit: Actually screw this business model. Just go back to making new IP's or release one great fucking game every two-three years. I buy their shit on name alone now!
Was the highly popular story of the recent days a false? Reminem seems to think so. They did an extensive research to find the truth behind the mysterious news article and came to one conclusion: Don't believe anything you read. I summed up their article in my own words:
The entire story started in English news site PlayStation Universe that posted the rather shocking news article "Square Enix changes business model". The article, however, had no source attached to it, but referred to "Square Enix's Japanese web site". Well, I don't know about you, but if you check Square Enix's official website you'll see no mention of any announcement whatsoever.
Reminem then looked up the story and found it was posted earlier at Digg, whose source is DailyGaming, a parody website. The first paragraph is similar to all the news sites who reported about this story, and that means that this is their source. They never bothered to quote the rest of the article, though:
"A Final Fantasy 7 dating simm, based largely on the Golden Saucer scenes featuring Cloud and one female protagonist, will be released for Xbox 360 in early 2008 and will feature multiple “happy endings” based on how a player performs in the game. It will also feature a New Game+ mechanic similar to that seen in Chrono Trigger that will allow gamers to unlock different girls’ “special features” without going through the game from scratch."
Yeah, you guessed it: This whole thing is one big fake. Good one, Reminem!

Well said, Desi!
I'm glad this rumour has turned out to be fake, as soul has said above. I'd much prefer it if Square use their resources to make new games and new characters etc instead of just cashing in on their past successes. They need to keep pushing forward, trying new styles and concepts instead of just rehashing old games.

This is why I'm always suspicious of things I read on the internet! It reminds me of a few months back when there was a rumour that Capcom had cancelled the PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 and made it a 360 exclusive...it was reported on a lot of the big gaming websites, but of course was completely untrue - it resulted in Capcom having to issue a statement saying that the game was still coming out on both machines. It just goes to show how easy it is for misunderstandings or lies to spread on the internet.
UPDATE: PlayStation Universe (http://www.psu.com/node/9941) would like to apologise for the misinformation reported below. Whilst we always strive to provide you with the most reliable and important news, unfortunately we used an untruthworthy source for this article.
Square Enix has, in fact, not made any statement regarding the company's intentions of changing its business model and focusing on remakes and sequels. We sincerely apologize for any confusion of inconvenience, and please be assured that we will do our best to prevent errors like this. Also be aware that the journalist who reported this has been slapped multiple times - whilst this doesn't make everything better, it's quite satisfying!
So.... no remakes or sequels.
Why does Square not give us, the fans, what we want?
NO we do not want! Why would any of us be interested in them just Milking their games over and over again? I liked it when Square made new IP's and at least tried different things. Now it is just DQ, Of Mana, and FF all the time. They even named Chocobo Tales, Final Fantasy in the US.
