from now on, stuff I make in 3D will go here. first off, here's a flatscreen I just made in Maya (w00t, I know 1% of it!!!). the on-screen image is a scan from the EGM april Ratchet & Clank feature. had some trouble with it, had to size it down in photoshop and below center, all down by the frame of the canvas to prevent white linings around the image. didn't bother do much more about it. and it you wonder, yes, it is a 16:9 screen ;D
If someone here knew about maya's lighting or texture, help will be gratefully accepted.
PS: the image is 1080x1920, so it's a bit big... Attachment 69
Nice, its a beginning. Cant you have a higher res image on the tv? The image just breaks the impression.

And it f***ing hurts
wll, sorry, but I'm fresher with maya that solidedge, and putting in an image requires me to scale it down or else just a tiny piece of the image would be shown. in some cases up-side down, for some reason...
That's awesome o_o I always admire 3D artists, because I've heard Maya and 3D-Max are very difficult to learn. I plan to get into them some day, but now I'm still focusing on 2D
made this random starship in Maya...only thing I knew to have was a big deck...and then, it all came randomly as I explored a couple of functions such as mirroring, wich I indeed used to get the ship symmetrical. symmetry is easier in Solidedge than Maya, since in SE you can use numbers as input. anyways, I didn't bother rendering it, since it looked crap, and it is easier to see what it is when 'face-mode' is selected, most importantly it's to late on te night to add textures or color....though I do have time for this Attachment 72 Attachment 73
btw, if you wonder, yes, that is the polygons you see through the smooth shading, but most of the came when I extruded, I started with a cube that was 4 poly's in width, 1 in height and 30 in length...
Now to something more elaborate: The Star Destroyer!!! Took me a couple of hours to adjust small things and some more exploring in 'vertices', the corners of the polygons. after some thinking, I made the radars by placing balls on cones with some cutaway faces. I didn't care to go for tiny rods to hold'em (in which I've included a detail shot). I know it has tons of offset proportions and lack of detail, but there is rather limited with detailed plan of these destroyers, and I didn' see one until I was almost finished.........at wookiepedia...
Even though, I'm pretty happy with it, moreso than earlier projects. I had some problems with having to animate it to go forwards, but when I set the ship to follow the path, it turned 90 degrees and went sideways, no idea how to fix it, turned both the ship and the path, bot no, still sideways, but that wasn't really important. It looks good anyways I think this would be an Imperial II class.

Made this animation one night I was bored. I didn't bother with details or proportions, since you'll recognize it anyways. The thing that follows proportions best are the gun parts that rotate backwards, who shrinks. In the trailer, the are telescopic.
Anyways, here's an island I just bored out of a plane. It's all in one piece though. Attachment 102
The back side is all messed up, so I don't wanna show it

Back again, now with polygons in numbers to almost kill most of my machine except the HDD.If you wonder, it has 38 turrets with 2 cannons each and two triple main cannons. And it has over 120.000 poly's, but it is actually in several separate pieces thrown together, but it is mirrored to maintain symmetry. Anyways, it was bad enough to make Maya break down several times. I need a seriously more powerful computer...

My PS3 background!
My first well-done raytrace render. My bro's pc has a 2.6Ghz processor and a x1950 graphics processor, so his is more suited to this than my dual 2Ghz and x1800, so if I want to o 3D, he'll simply have to piss off.
One peculiar fact is, this was made all with non-linear deformers and a 'steel-like' material (dgs_material fr the technical), a red-colored plane with an I dont remember-material, and so-called HDRI (place an image on a sphere and make the inside reflect on the object).
Oki, back again. This time, a tornado made from a tutorial with a few personal tweaks. Used a polygonal model with particle emitter for the tornado itself, a green polygonal plane for ground JPEG image. I you a blue sphere for sky. I tried with and without an ambient light, and found out I liked best the one without which gave a twilight-like effect.
Now, because of restrictions, I'll uploaded a jpeg (720). If you want to use it as a background on your PS3, I do have a better png render in the same resolution as this one to send over PM. If you happen to have a full-HD tv, I'll be happy to PM a 1080 render! Attachment 161
