Now first let me say that if I posted this in the wrong place, I am sorry and I would be grateful if the mods could move it for me. I honestly don't mean this as self advertisement and really think (in my arrogance) that people may be interested in my video review of Final Fantasy XIII.
I found myself surprised at the amount of import reviews of Final Fantasy XIII where the reviewer didn't speak Japanese, hadn't beaten the game, or both. So I made this review of the entire game (complete with a ton of footage) as someone who actually understands it. There some minor spoilers (locations, out of context scenes) but nothing big. Enjoy!
Of course if you have any questions about the game that I could answer, please post here of on the video page and I'll do my best to answer.
Also, as a lurker here for a while, I'd like that thank those of you for putting up the chapter by chapter help pages. The final boss was frustrating and your tips helped a lot.
Not a bad review, but I must say that I don't agree with the fact that the AI is "more than competent". The AI is pretty rubbish if you ask me. Use ATK/ATK/ATK and everyone just goes for a random target instead of concentrating on one. And they always cast buffs which I do not want first like protect before casting haste.
Although, I totally agree with the fact that linearity in a game isn't a bad thing.
On a side note, is it just me or does the first 5 minutes seem more like a gameplay mechanics explanation? No offense or anything..
You know, I also found it kinda annoying that attackers always pick different targets. Yet, blasters always pick the same one. I found that for preemptive strikes, though, that I wanted the 2nd attacker to hit other things so it all worked out.
And yeah, I know I went into the mechanics a bit far, but since it's an import review and most people have no idea what it plays like, I think they'll find that information useful.

Reason: misspelling
Toriyama/Kitase said the Attacker Role isn't reliable because they attack enemies independently. I wouldn't say it's rubbish if they were designed specially to execute commands and attack enemies by themselves.

This.
It simply means you have to plan around that idea, knowing that the Attacker Role won't always work exactly as you hoped.

Alright fair enough, but I don't think many casual gamers buying the game would have understood that or even read what kitase said, no? Also, let's not forget the fact that the AI loves to give random buffs.
And yes, I do know how to work around it, thank you very much.
Great video review, thanks for sharing! Hey, so what did you think of the game plot wise? Did like the characters? How about the storyline, was it likable for you and how do you compare it to other FFs (such as VI?)

Great review, I too am interested to know these things : )
I love the ending by the way haha.
This must be the first all positive review i've seen/read and tbh I just cant see how an FF-fan (asuming you are one) can be totally happy with the extreme linearity of the game even though it offers a great story, not all games must be sandboxes but people (like me) expect more with the current tech this gen of gaming has to offer.. 60h of story from an rpg is totally fine but I just dont get why they didnt include some of the things that the FF series is known for (like secret bosses or secret missions or even minigames etc)
I might seem as one who just complains about the game but damn after 5 years waiting for this game I feel a bit let down, not just because the battlesystem isnt what i thought it'd be but that also i cant see myself spending half of the time i've spent on the previous FF-games (besides FFVII CC) on this one
Nice review btw.

The plot, huh? Well the plot of XIII a bit simple. The half way point plot twist was so painfully obvious it hurt. I called it one hour in. However the twists near the end were much less predictable and thus, enjoyable.
But honestly, the plot is just a framework for Final Fantasy XIII. The real star is the characters. It's like House. You don't watch for the "patient of the week;" it's just a framework. You watch to see the characters interactions. The game does a good job of setting the characters up with new partners every so often. In this way we learn about these truly deep characters and their interesting back-stories. So the plot was a perfect foil for the characters. Other than that it was so-so, but it kept the characters moving towards the end and left them with very little down time. It kept things tense. That's a good thing.
Comparing the plot to other FFs is hard to do... but I'd say it at least holds water. So better than 8. It's also rather original in feel so I put it below 6 and 7, and put it about equal with 10.
Great review. It is way better than the crappy Gamespot´s and IGN´s review. You have future.
I liked the way how your sentences matched the video, for instance when you name all the roles available in the game, i bet you had a lot of work to made this review.

Pulse isn't linear. Damn, it's like a broken record when explaining the game to people. If the plot is enticing, then I can endure the linear elements.

..You've made a big mistake if you dumped all your anticipation into one game for half a decade. Real bad, man. It's different.
What do you want, the same Final Fantasy title every time? This will be known for it's—as some might say—'ridiculously linear' gameplay.
