It's possible to kill him without using the Death spell, but then again you will need powerful equipments and have all of your crystalinium nodes maxed out as well.
Without these prerequisites, it's still possible to kill him. All you need is the Death spell. To get the Death spell, it's somewhere inside Vanille's Jammer crystalinium at Level 9.
If you know Death it still may not be enough. ff13wiki has a great guide for farming Trapezohedrons:

・Item drop+ items like Get Choice, Best choice、ベストチョイス（Drop rate up 10 to 20%) You can buy Get Choice グッドチョイス at the accessory shop for 100k and upgrade it to Best choice with a Munalle stone ムナール石
・TP/Drive up items: Energy sash エナジーサッシュ, Easy choice, イージーチョイス, Axel Sash, アクセルサッシュ, Champion's belt 勝者の勲章
・Fang should have Fatal Scissors フェイタルシザース( Upgraded from Punisher パニッシャー) for fast TP gain
【Strategy】
１．Start the battle by summoning Hectankeil on Vanille
２．Get him to fall over then go all out
３．Send Hectankeil back during driving mode (△ button)
４．Spam Death

So those items that the Adamantoise drop which sell for 150k are just for selling right? I just want to make sure, since they have the same icon as the upgrade crystals.

I'm looking for an accessories upgrade guide......For people that are far in the game which accessories are best to upgrade and to equip for the party members?And which are best to equip for specific boss fights?!i know that there's a chart in the wiky jp but is not very clear and it could be very useful a guide or some tips or a much more understandable chart for accessories,like the one for the weapon in the first page.I hope it will come soon.

I haven't really done any swapping of accessories for particular boss fights the entire game. I suppose using accessories that boost certain kinds of defense (elemental, particular status, etc) might make fights easier, but I generally preferred to just stack on the HP boosts and ATK/MAG boosts.
That, and the Good Choice accessory. I've gotten two so far, but one was from a hunt. Either way, once you get one, equip it, and when you can, upgrade it to Best Choice, this will increase item drops (and best choice increases or allows rare item drops, not sure). I've gotten tons of great upgrade materials doing this without resorting to any grinding. I'm in the final dungeon and 3 people have tier 2 weapons maxed out at this point.
Adamantamai is friggin' gay. I have killed it 43 times to be exact, and I never once received any Trapezohedron from it. I've been using Best Choice at the time, too.
Can multiple items of the same kind stack? I have tried testing it by buying, making and equipping FIVE Best Choices and the result? Still no Trapezohedron!
@Inaudax: After fighting them so many times you must have plenty of the 150k sell item. Why don't you just sell them and buy the trapezohedrons that you need?
Weapon Upgrade Help: I've tried to understand how to upgrade a weapon the best way, but I don't get it at all, so some help would be appreciated.
You buy 36 irodori(coloured) jelly (彩りぜりー） from the shop seitai sozai kemonoya （生態素材けものや
Select the weapon you want to upgrade and use 36 coloured jellys on it (because it will... give you the 3xbonus?).
Then buy buy 24 (or as many as you can?) turbo jet (ターボジェット） from LENORA garage (LENORAガレージ
And then use it on the same weapon? Is that suppose to give you 3x of EXP the turbo jet?
And you can only do this once on one weapon?
I don't get it, please I need som explanation.
if you just use the turbo jets without using the colored jelly, then you won't get the exp bonus. which means you'll only get the minimum exp per turbo jet. so it would be wise to use the jellys to get the x3 bonus on your weapon before you put other items into it.
if you have the x3 bonus on your weapon and only use 1 turbo jet, that turbo jet might reduce your xp bonus to x2 or erase your exp bonus completely, forcing you to use more jellies to recover your x3 bonus before putting more items into it. some items have a + effect (giving you a exp bonus) while others (usually the items that give a lot of xp) will have a negative effect, erasing your bonus so you have to build up the bonus again. this is why it is optimal to get the x3 bonus ONCE, then put exactly how much xp you need into the weapon without overshooting too much (wasting materials).
you can do it over and over again.

The 150k item isn't that common, either. I have some, and I'm saving them for XP after when I get some trapezohedrons.

From a level 1 weapon to trying out both the Ultima maxed out, and Helter Skelter maxed out, either way I didn't see much difference in damage. I DID notice however, a big improvement in break speed. I recommend the Ultima Weapon for Lightening
