Whatever everyone's opinions on the ending may be, I have faith that BioWare will set things right with the upcoming DLC.
I just downloaded it and I feel like they did. I've always preferred the synthesis ending so I'm kind of glad they didn't go with the indoctrination theory. The DLC has somebody narrating the effects of each choice and shows what happens to your party members (LIARA LIVES AND NOTHING HURTS <3) and that's basically all I wanted so I'm satisfied.
Honestly, I'm a wee bit disappointed with the Extended Cut endings. My opinions on the endings themselves haven't changed, and I do feel like the DLC made them more heartfelt and emotional. However, my problem is that I feel that they still didn't elaborate on anything. Yeah, they showed a few still images of your party members doing various things after the battle. But what happened of everyone in the years after? If they do another game within the Mass Effect universe (which they obviously are going to), they better explain that. If you're going to end the story that involved all of these characters, at least conclude their individual plots properly.
I'm not sure which ending I hate more, Control or Synthesis. Control is shitty because a) your relays are fixed and b) Shepard becomes Magic Space God Peacemaker Reaper. What's the point of even living then? You've got a god who will utterly destroy anything that threatens peace and can provide you with all the knowledge you need to live a comfortable, but ultimately boring and meaningless life. Synthesis is fucking straaaaannnngggeee. It has the most severe and lasting effect, but it's just waaaaay too weird. Way, way, way too weird. Bizarre magic bullshit.
Refuse kind of undermines itself into redundancy. The "Fuck you, destiny" aspect is great on a personal level and in line with the series as a whole. But no one lives for it to hold any actual meaning because THE CYCLE CONTINUES and the next lot of people are still stuck with having to deal with it. You just have to hope that Liara's beacon is enough for them to end it for good.
Destroy is... I dunno. I love my Shepard, so it suits me, but even if the relays are merely damaged instead of wholly fucked, there's no Reapers left to fix them. But I imagine when/if they ever are, it'll be back to business as usual without the threat of galactic extinction and so the ending holds the second greatest potential after Synthesis. And Synthesis is insane, so that makes Destroy the best ending, I guess.

Keep an eye on me, I'm going to do some scheming. Here I go--
[20th January 09:05:11] Aurelia I don't speak diva. I speak human being.
I told the catalyst to go fuck himself the first time, then his voice went all Harbinger and he abandoned his attempts to convince Shepard to choose one of the options. I think Bioware really missed an opportunity here; if your EMS is high enough, at this point Shepard should have radioed the fleets and warned them the catalyst is a Reaper trap; then they'd all rally and although suffering great losses, would have finally destroyed the Reapers. It'd be the ending with the most death, but an ending on your own terms.
But I can understand them wanting to have it so the Reapers can't be beaten conventionally. So the 'rejection' ending is cool, it suits Shepard's character and fits thematically, but I'm not happy with everyone in our cycle dying.
So I did it again and chose 'destroy.' This was great; it's a shame EDI at least is implied to die (no mention of the Geth,) but that's a small price to pay and one I'm sure she'd be willing to. I'll buy Joker a hooker when he gets back to Earth. It shows Reapers all around the galaxy being destroyed, and then a montage of images projecting the future as Hackett gives his memorial speech; you see Wrex with Eve and his child, the Quarians on a rebuilt Rannoch, the Mass Relays repaired and what looked like the Citadel being rebuilt and staying at Earth, which seems to be the 'hub' of the galaxy.
Then you see the Normandy crew on the jungle planet about to put Shepard's name on the memorial wall (note that there was no EDI, so maybe it's just her synthetic body that's dead) and Liara (my Shepard's LI) deciding not to, implying she believes he's still alive. Then it flashes forward and the Normandy's repaired and then takes off; presumably back to Earth.
It then goes to some rubble in the ground and presents the 'breathing' Shepard scene that was there originally. All in all, a happy enough ending.
I'm fine with it. Mass Effect has concluded well, and I can move on with my life. I'll miss Shepard and the gang, but I doubt we'll ever see them again.
I've only seen the destroy ending so far, which was nice I guess but 1) I didn't have a big issue with the original ending in the first place and 2) I'm not sure if it alleviates the concernt of people whcomplaints intent with the endings. It doesn't add much aside from a few words to reassure you that everyone will be ok in the future, which I feel like you could have gathered from the end anyway. It's not a huge difference IMO.
I did like seeing the crew looking at the memorial wall though.
Time o YouTube the other endings, woo.

Finally downloaded the DLC and chose Synthesis again. I'll probably save the others for other playthroughs. I'm fully satsfied with it. It's basically what I had already imagined would happen, so no real suprise there (except for the Reapers sharing their knowledge, which makes sense), but it's good to actually see it on my screen. I couldn't help but cry a little when Tali put the plate. I already liked the ending, now I truly love it.
So I just finished, I chose Control, naturally, and...
NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE I SIMPLY REFUSE. I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT MY SHEPARD AND KAIDAN DO NOT LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT THAT IS THE FATE OF THE MAN WHO DID SO MUCH FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD. I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN HOW MUCH OF A MESS I AM RIGHT NOW. TEARS AND SNOT ARE DROPPING DOWN MY FACE AS I AM TYPING THIS.

I've been having these weird thoughts lately… Like, is any of this for real… Or not?
To be honest, I think what made the ending of the game so emotionally difficult for me was all the interaction with the squad mates leading up to the finale, especially my Romance option, in this case, Kaidan.
What doesn't make sense to me, is that the Catalyst says that all Synthetic life will be destroyed etc. including Shepard and anyone else I would assume because he has some Synthetic parts so when it shows that breath at the end of the Destroy ending it's like ???
One part of me wants to go back and do that one because if Shepard does live then that means I can go on thinking what I want, Shepard and Kaidan living happily ever after.

Heh. Underwhelming. A significant improvement on the original, but still not entirely satisfying. I just want Liara to be happy. At least Kasumi looked cute in the Synthesis ending. That's as much as I can ask for.

Also, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WITH THE KAIDAN THING. I CHOSE SYNTHESIS AND MY SHEPARD DISINTEGRATED AND KAIDAN IS GOD KNOWS WHERE AND I JUST CAN'T ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THEY CAN'T BE TOGETHER FOREVER. ;;
My military strength was full, and my readiness rating was 100%, 98% by the time I actually finished though. But I think I'm finding peace in my decision. Control. I would do it again if I had to.
Still refusing though.

I liked the old endings honestly; and only because the new ones don't really do what I wanted to I guess.
Like, yeah, an epilogue is nice; but what they did was a slideshow. I wanted an actual in game footage, cgi, whatever ending that expounded on every choice you made. I think that's what everyone wanted. Not one va talking to you about what you just did. You know what you just did, you made the choice to do it.

I wanted to see things in motion, not pictures.
Way to ruin it, Bioware.
I agree with this completely. I'm disappointed they didn't do more with it. More so than the original ending.
